  1. The owner retired it stated on another thread as did the message in the shop window.
  2. Whoever they elect they'll lose the next election anyway so its irrelevant. and when they lose they'll elect another leader. I know many die hard tories who are choosing to vote Green or Lib Dem in the next election because they're so disgusted with the Brexit mess

That's my go-to in a tube strike or curtailment of rail services. As the only bus that goes to the central west end in our area its another kick in the teeth. As regards Cycling suggestions-For me this wouldn't work as I can't ride a bike and at my age I don't think its an option to learn whilst commuting to Oxford Circus.

I wasn't going to bother responding to your downright ignorant reply but having just got home from work (11.30pm)I will. First up-I'm a Londoner born and bred, I grew up on a council estate which was fortunately was in West London Zone 1 As the only daughter of elderly sick parents (I'm not asking for sympathy just stating facts OK?)I remained as near as possible to my parents by living in zone 2 West London for most of my adult life-when they passed away I no longer needed to be so near to them and pay inflated prices to live in what what was admittedly a pretty central area (W10) I can certainly 'Hack' living in London, probably better than most. If I could find a shop job locally that paid the same hourly rate as a central London store I would-Believe me-I'd love to walk to work or be home by 7pm. If I'd chosen to live in East London (which I also considered before settling here because at the time it wasn't as overpriced and fashionable as it is now)I would still be able to get more than one direct bus into work as well as having access to the Central line. My point was not that I can't hack living in London or indeed commuting (as I've relied on public transport my entire life and I'm nearly 60)BUT that the transport options regarding busses is woefully inadequate in this part of London compared to even SW London. I think your attitude is horrendous and unrealistic too thinking its that easy to get a job locally (it isn't -competition for what counts as unskilled work is fierce) or that living in what counts as a major city it is unrealistic to expect half way decent transport links into the central hub. I glad I don't know what you look like because if I did I'd kick you where it hurts if I saw you on the Jubilee line.

And even if we do live in 'Nappy Valley" I'm sure kids would find stuff they'd enjoy in a decent Tapas or Moroccan place. I really like the chain 'comptoir libanaise' its reasonably priced with a big enough menu theres something for everyone. Or the chain Giraffe are really decent, salads, burgers, all day breakfasts, Leon also is really decent. I'm giving these as examples of fairly priced chains with a decent and varied food offering. Pizza isn't very inspiring and If I had kids I'd rather give them something other than Pizza as a treat.

It is not 'Pathetically entitled' to expect to get to my job as a 'lowly shop Assistant' in the west end in less than an hour.Using public transport because Believe it or not mate shop workers do not earn enough to get taxis to and from our jobs. I pay ?1500 a year for my Oyster card because much as I would love to use the cheaper and less claustrophobic option of busses to and from work the bus routes simply aren't good enough so I'm reliant on the overground to change to the Jubilee line at hideously overcrowded Canada Water. In the summer and at Christmas many West end shops close at 10pm I get out at 10.30 when I'm on a late shift and frankly having to walk 15 minutes to get a bus that brings me over the river only to have to then change to another bus around Elephant and castle and then change again to be near my home does not appeal as a lone female who's been standing for 8hours on a shop floor-Also I'd be lucky to get home before midnight. Belive it or not (hard I know as some of you wrongly believe the area is full of gentrified people sipping lattes and working on their laptops from home or doing highly paid city jobs) I moved here because I could no longer afford to live in West London Where I only used busses to get to work. If I wanted to live in a village with one bus I'd have left London completely. In this day and age of rising rents (?1000 a month for a bed sit in W2) more and more people are moving further from the inner city. Its about time TFL realised that areas like ours are populated by people who rely on good transport links to get us into our jobs at present the busses and trains just aren't good enough. Busses are overcrowded as are trains and as for a bus every 4 miniutes on Lordship lane? That sure as hell isn't the 185 or 176 which are the only routes that get us anywhere near central.
  8. Bus routes in this area are appalling! and seem to just get worse. TFL obviously assume we all have nothing better to do than stick around our immediate area eating Pizzas and drinking Lattes and Craft beer-which I believe links nicely to a couple of other threads on this forum. Actually...maybe the sweetshop opened so we can placate ourselves with a bag of sugary goodies as we wait at a string of different bus stops all over SE London in order to get anywhere half way central!
  9. At the risk of being controversial I actually agree with Louisa that it would be much better to have a new Moroccan restaurant or Mexican or Tapas....just something other than a Pizza restaurant which our part of South East London seems to be saturated with. Personally I find Pizza boring I know I may be in the minority but Pizza is to my mind just bread and cheese with assorted toppings.

This sounds really good. Although not a fan of sweets as such I do however have a MAJOR weakness for liquorice and presently have to trek to Borough market to get decent salt liquorice (its easier for me to get to than Ikea before anyone suggests there) someone mentioned earier that this shop sells salt liquorice so I will definitely be there on my next day off. Mouth watering already!
  11. I rather hope its Penny Mordaunt. Although I'm not a Tory at least she had the b**ls to take part in the tv series 'splash' (i think thats the name the diving challenge programme)
  12. I do wish people would stop moaning about this. Its a couple of days and thats all. They have many more festival style events in Victoria Park, and when I was a child living in W2 in the 60's and 70's we had the Hyde Park free festivals and of course Notting Hill carnival. I don't remember my parents wringing their hands over the noise -in fact mum and dad remained in the area until they died in the 2000's and carnival was a lot more noisy and crazy than when I was a nipper but even in their 80's they accepted it was a community event enjoyed by many and only lasted 2 days. Also these events fall on Bank holidays when Kids are on holiday from school, the wealthy always left Notting hill when carnival weekend comes-If the noise from a festival that ends at 10.30 pm bothers you that much go away if you can afford to or accept it. it isn't every day it isn't every weekend

I don't think wealthy foodies would eat pizza from a chain tbh. But I'm sick and tired of these pizza and burger resturants..no wonder the UK has an obesity problem!

I second Carphone Warehouse I've found them to be consistantly good with advice to handsets, deals etc and more than once they've saved me making a costly mistake though they do give you the option to return the phone for another if that model doesn't quite work out for you within 14 days I think it is.
  18. Either way its the death knell for our local buisnesses and characterful high street. brace yourselves for more independent traders closing and LL full of chain stores chain restaurants and estate agents. I saw it happen in North Kensington despite widespread opposition by residents and traders alike.
  19. they have superb physio's at goose green clinic Ive seen a couple there both excellent
  20. Green, a colour with really good vibes
  21. I'm so glad that someone has posted on this...its so so shocking and heartbreaking. the stained glass!the art! the relics the building itself. such an incredible loss to France and the world. I'm praying they manage to save things.
  22. alice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And you spent time searching back through posts. > Pathetic. Obviously a very bored person..... I agree with an earlier comment that this thread serves no purpose any more. Hopefully 'Saucy" will announce in the 'buisiness'section when they are actually reopening and then everyone can judge the place for themselves and post accordingly under a new heading. This thread no longer serves its purpose and has become a personal attack upon someone with a lot of horrendous health problems who stated that he had actually been in direct contact with the owners. it really is time to move on and look forward to the restaurant's hopefully imminent opening.

Well said-if someone is ill and their quality of life is impaired as a result a forum like this can be a very valuable way of connecting with people even if it sometimes involves them p***ing people off!

Yes! Id LOVE a meals yard apothacary to open here I'd be overjoyed in fact! I'd always go to Lloyds pharmacy for Pharmacy stuff over super drug but I find that Chemist on LL near the bus stop quite dreadful and REALLY overpriced! They wanted ?23.99 for something I knew I could buy at Lloyds for ?20.99 so I put it back and walked round the corner to Lloyds
