I've been meaning to tell you Mac. They DO still play MacNamara's Band at Spurs. It's when the teams come out on the pitch for the second half. Just never recognised it. My mistake.

We didn't didn't have a midfield in those games. All out injured and Parker hadn't arrived. We don't lose when he is in the team. Hope he's back for the game against Everton next week.

The defence has been pretty solid especially when Ledley King plays. We've not lost with him in the side since August 2010. Unfortunately he can't play every game. What has also improved our defence is having Scott Parker in front of the back four. He does a lot of tidying up and gets plenty of tackles in to win the ball for us and give it to Luka Modric to work his magic. Sandro does a similar job but he's out injured again too. Younis Kaboul has improved tremendously this season and has really benefited playing alongside King and the very experienced Willem Gallas who unfortunately is injured again. Michael Dawson is back tomorrow and so am I. Going on Wednesday too against Everton - our game in hand. If we can win that it'll show how much we've improved to stay in the top three ahead of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool and will take us level on points with Man Utd. I agree the 22nd against Man City could well be the defining moment in the season. It'll be a crucial game for both sides and we'll want revenge for the embarrassing trouncing we got at White Hart Lane early in the season. I'd be very happy with a draw up there and so would Man Utd with both teams dropping points.

Oh dear. Anyway, enough of this pub talk. I'm off out for a snifter or two. Cheers!

Good points *Bob* and nice bit of irony shoved in as well. You're right of course. Admittedly, apart from when there is a big game on telly the pub is almost empty most of the time and has been dying on it's arse for quiet a few years now. And, not everyone wants to watch football and maybe put up with the odd unpleasant "character".

*Bob* we're English. Part of being English is taking the piss/having a sense of humour. You should know that. You do it so well yourself.

Great post herrd. Had me laughing out loud. I remember when the EDT was a proper pub. I'm not overly keen on it now. I hope I won't be saying the same about the CPT. There's life in the old girl yet.

Welcome back Louisa. It's been a while. What you have said about the demise of Rye Lane is spot on and I think Undisputed Truth has nailed it too. This thread is also beginning to make me feel rather old because I remember all those big stores on Rye Lane. Jones & Higgins especially. I'd go there with my mum when I was little. It really was rather posh. Who'd a thunk it when you like at that street now.

It bloody should be listed. The whole building should be listed. If memory serves I think The Wishing Well (now the Victoria Inn) managed to keep the glass/bar partition bit after the refurb. I can't be sure of that because I've only been in a couple of times since it re-opened.
-
I bloody hope not.

You're going to miss Yaya Toure when he goes to the African Nationals BR. He is absolutely immense. Big thank you to Newcastle tonight. They are really going to miss Demba Ba when goes too.
-
That particular manager didn't last five minutes did he. Was out of his depth. I'll also be reserving judgement until things are up and running. I'd certainly welcome the toilets being given a complete refurb.

1. Spurs win the League and FA Cup double. 2. Pigs will fly. Hope I'm right about the first one.

As a regular myself I know it can do with few slight adjustments here and there but if they can keep it to what it is - a proper friendly back street boozer then I'll be very happy. It could be a lot worse. Someone could have bought it, closed it down and turned it into flats. As long as it keeps going and isn't completely unrecognisable as to what it was before then I'm happy.

Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > How does Martin O Neill do it ? > > Sunderland up to 10 th already. Have to admit he's gone great so far. I was at White Hart Lane tonight and the Baggies parked the proverbial bus in front of our goal. I knew wouldn't be easy and was nervous as hell before the game and would have settled for the one-nil. Three more points in the bag though. Anyway, we play our game in hand against Everton next week. Win that and I think we can safely assume we won't be relegated this season.

It's a very old joke at that. I mean Chris Rea FFS.

Many years ago when I was off the sauce I'd drink Sparkling water and lime with ice and a slice when I was in the pub. Hated the fact that I had to do it but it needed to be done or I was probably going to end up dead. Other than that I love ginger beer. Mango juice is another favourite too. Good luck Otta.

All said and done though. I bet he can still do the business. Watching MOTD last night Arsenal's finishing was woeful. They could have had a hatful in the first half and it would have been game over. I think it's very astute of Wenger to bring him back even if it's only for a few months. I remember when Jurgen Klinsman came back to Spurs and he saved us from relegation with his goals and his vast experience. It can only rub off on the younger players and they can learn from him.

Reggie. 1. A lot. Especially with a drink. They go together like bacon and eggs. 2. Apart from getting rid of my hacking cough in the mornings I wouldn't. Never deprive yourself of the things you enjoy in life. That's my motto.

Sorry to hear about your Dad Mick Mac. Was the cancer related to smoking? I have a similar story. When my dad got cancer and had one of his kidneys removed he was told to stop immediately. He said: "It's a bit late now," and carried on. Miraculously, he beat cancer, heart disease too. Strokes got him in the end (aged 80) after a two year struggle after his first one. I should probably stop smoking too. I'm hopelessly addicted (over 30 a day) but enjoy it and quite frankly couldn't give a toss if it kills me. If I stop enjoying it. I'll quit. So, good luck to anyone who tries. I hope you're successful.

I can't help sniggering at that one. I'm off to White Hart Lane tomorrow for game against the Baggies. Another three points for Spurs and I'll be elated. COYS!

Spurs 1-1. Next four games at home though.

Forget the postcode snobbery (inverted or not). It's a very nice road with smart houses. Had a relative live there for a little while a couple of years back and they were very happy there and very sad when they had to move. You've got very good links via East Dulwich & Peckham. Plus you've got a smashing pub around the corner on Ivanhoe Road called Hoopers.
