  1. I forgot to say what a good time I had at the Friday drinks. Meeting many of the regulars again and some newbies too. And finding out that EDoldie is someone I've been friends with since I was a five-year-old came as a complete surprise. I'm constantly amazed at the surliness of the bar staff in the Dog. It is run by a lovely friendly couple in Duncan and Nikki and I suppose it doesn't really reflect well on them for their staff to be such a miserable bunch of surly gits. They could learn a lot from the wonderful friendly staff at the CPT.
  2. Well, if the Castle is a no go area for some people I'd be happy enough to go to the Uplands.
  3. Oh come on, get over it. That was ages ago and if the boot had been on the foot...Rooney's, (admittedly another Man Utd player) he'd have done just the same, so maybe you're right...says more about the club.
  4. Barton is a hooligan on and off the pitch. Thought Spurs could have done a little better yesterday. Had Jenas put away the two very good chances that came his way things might have been different. I can't complain about the penalty though. We have them again back at the Lane on Saturday. Hopefully we'll have Ledley King back and we may even beat them this time. Also, Atila, how you can call Ronaldo a one-trick pony is beyond me. I know you hate Man Utd but give the guy a break. He's a magnificnet player and a joy to watch. You'd love a player like that your side surely?
  5. The Castle is fine with me. Great Guinness in there and plenty of room.

  9. Sorry, Brendan. I think Stephen's a fine name for a pub, so's Emma come to think of it. I'm thinking of opening two pubs myself and call them Boris & Dirt or Doris & Burt can't remember which. Which do you prefer?

    a joke

Dear Abby: I have been engaged for almost a year. I am to be married next month. My fiancee's mother is not only very attractive but really great and understanding. She is putting the entire wedding together and invited me to her place to go over the invitation list because it had grown a bit beyond what we had expected it to be. When I got to her place we reviewed the list and trimmed it down to just under a hundred...then she floored me. She said that in a month I would be a married man and that before that happened, she wanted to have sex with me. Then she just stood up and walked to her bedroom and on her way said that I knew where the front door was if I wanted to leave. I stood there for about five minutes and finally decided that I knew exactly how to deal with this situation. I headed straight out the front door... There, leaning against my car was her husband, my father-in-law to be. He was smiling. He explained that they just wanted to be sure I was a good kid and would be true to their little girl. I shook his hand and he congratulated me on passing their little test. Abby, should I tell my fiance what her parents did, and that I thought their "little test" was asinine and insulting to my character? Or should I keep the whole thing to myself including the fact that the reason I was walking out to my car was to get a condom? Lucky Louie.

  20. Yeah! I have. Last time was about 25 years ago though and it was a bit rough, no make that really rough and apparently still is according to someone I know who uses it now and again but that's what you get with pubs in the middle of an estate. Just think of it as The Jockey, the pub in Shameless.

  25. Ahem! Been going down the Dog (Crown & Greyhound to you newbies) since I was 15 so I still feel it's my local. I also like the Guinness in the Castle as it's the best locally for that but I am an infrequent visitor there. I like the CPT for the football and it's friendly barstaff, the EDT I also like a lot, Inside 72 occasionally (great sound system and eclectic mix of music), Black Cherry for cocktails and Green & Blue for fine wine. I haven't been to the Clockhouse since it was done up about 18 months ago but used to enjoy sitting outside there on the odd occasion in the summer and watching the world go by with a few pints of Youngs Best. Best for food though is the Rye Hotel.
