  1. As someone who actually saw the Clash first time round you could say that they certainly progressed musically but they borrowed from everywhere, like all good bands do, but I'd hardly say they were shape-shifters. Sure they influenced a lot of people, but it's unfortunate they are directly responsible for The Alarm (cringes) and all those shitty American bands like Green Day and Blink 182 who think they're a bit punky but only seemed to have listened to the first album. Also, if you think the Libertines albums sound a bit like the early Clash it's because they're produced by Mick Jones.
  2. When you lounged this you lost my post so I'm going to have to rewrite the damned thing again!!!! Grrr! Anyway Mr Scary Neck introduced himself to me a few Sundays back when I was sitting outside the Drum having a drink and a fag and he saunters over with his equally smacked out girlfriend, he's swigging from a bottle of wine and tries to sell me some packaged meats from a big blue recycling bag. He actually says to me that "it's not nicked mate, honest." I politely told him that I wasn't interested and he gives me the big stare like he's gonna chiv me. When I gave him the big stare back and told him to be on his way he finally left me alone to go and bother someone else outside the Palmerston. Arsehole!
  3. Oh, that'd be nice. I used to go and see them quite a lot back in the 90s. Met 'em backstage a couple times, really lovely blokes too.
  4. Last night I put on Songs From Northern Britain by Teenage Fanclub, which I hadn't played for a while. Excellent!

Well, without wanting to sound pedantic if you look at the title of the thread it says "Malt Whiskies". That's whisky, and malt whisky at that, not whiskey, huge difference.
  6. *Slips into room* *Offers sympathy and Marlboro Reds for MW74* *I hope you told them where to stick it* *Sees DM in agitated state, offers valium and Vodka* *Slumps onto large armchair, slurps from double expresso, lights fag and relaxes for a quiet read of the paper*
  7. Well it certainly used to be but perhaps that has changed recently. I remember under the previous management a few years back they used to have creche out in the back garden. A girl used to supervise the children while the parents were drinking. There was a climbing frame for the kids to play on, maybe that's all gone now. Been a while since I've been up there.
  8. Now we're talking. Agree with Sean, Laphroig with it's peat & smoke is just pure heaven, although I'm sure there are numerous Islay Malts that I have yet to taste that are it's equal. Also enjoy the occasional Balvennie and Glenmorangie.
  9. I don't really watch much telly but you've made this sound very watchable. What channel is it on?
  10. Well said Sean. I have got into so many different and interesting streams of music, literature, art etc etc through various listening habits, starting with the Stones when I was a kid.
  11. Yeah, don't ever believe the bollocks written in the Currant Bun. I think the board have been very foolish indeed. I think expectations have been way too high and it just adds to the pressure on the management and players alike. If, indeed had Martin Jol been sacked, which is a ridiculous notion at this point of the season and considering how good he's been for us; and then gone onto another club and been successful there, the board would have ended up with a serious amount of egg on their collective face and also, I think the fans would have turned against them too. Jol is very popular amongst us Spurs fans. Martin Jol's blue and white army! Anyway to change the subject, how the hell does that useless tyke Alan Smith get in the England team? Beats me.
  12. Ok EC's good when he plays the blues but Jeff Beck is the master.
  13. Thanks guys, must get down there soon...*checks diary, fixture list*
  14. Alan, I've nothing against people from SE5, after all I born there myself, King College Hospital, so I'm a bit of a Camberwell Carrot...but anyway...can somebody please tell us what the bloody score was????
  15. Brendan Wrote: > Hendrix could play as quickly and technically as > any of his contemporaries most notably Eric > Clapton. He was a terrific showman too. And he could play better with his teeth than Old Slowhand ever could with his fingers. Clappedout is the most overrated guitar player ever. Hendrix was a God!
  16. Yeah! What was the score? You're such a pedant sometimes Alan, but then you are an SE5 man.
  17. Keef, you're right about Lennon but what you say about Hendrix is so so wrong. Anyway, as I've already told you Jeff Beck is the man.
  18. That's always been a problem with Youngs pubs, they aren't child friendly unless they have a big garden out the back like the Woodhouse.
  19. That's all very well but I still miss the 24-hour bakery that used to be there until a few years ago.
  20. Fisher are originally a Bermondsey club. Dulwich Hamlet is a Dulwich club, you live in Dulwich don't you, s'obvious innit.
  21. I'm hyperventilating at the thought of what to bring...so much to choose from that we'll all be fighting over the decks/cd ipod.
  22. Of course I'll be watching and there's no such thing as a friendly against Germany.
  23. *Over here Keef, just been giving the lovely Dulwich Mum a massage, the poor girl's been so busy of late, I've got to get her to relax more so perhaps we'll be a little quieter today after yesterday's partying, it is the quiet room after all, got to let the lady have her beauty sleep* *The Stones were the canine's testicles mate* *They rocked and more importantly they rolled too* *Keef of course is cooler than thou, sang a beautiful version of You Got The Silver with just Ronnie on 12 string acoustic with bottleneck embellishments* *Ronnie played some fabulous stuff, more slide playing than ever and is a revelation now he's sobered up somewhat* *Charlie's the best and most sartorially elegant rock n'roll drummer on the planet* *And how Sir Michael Philip Jagger does what he does at 64 is beyond comprehension* *Horn section the business - ooh Bobby Keyes is a blast* *Backing singers wonderful, swoon swoon special mention for Lisa Fischer* *Ooh looks like the sun is over the yard arm, fancy a pint?*
