  1. Certainly DM, I shall try and get in touch with him over the weekend. I'm fully aquainted with the Threshers up your end and I honestly can say that they are quite a pleasant and helpful bunch in there so perhaps you could work your feminine charm on them and I'll work on the Village Oddbins and maybe Sean can do G & B. Is Sunday too soon, it might be for me as I have a party to go to Saturday night and may not be any fit state to partake but we'll see. Also, sorry if I sounded presumptious dear Peckham-Perkster but I was only going on the suggestions. I prefer red too and I know plenty of ladies who do too but in the summer when it's hot a nice dry chilled white or indeed a decent rose is right up my street. Cheers!:))
  2. You're right ratty, where did it all go wrong. Let's get it back on thread. Anyway, if money were no object: - House in Jamaica, Chateau in the south of France, flat in New York, town house on Cheyne Walk, Chelsea and a small country pile on the Kent/Sussex borders. I might need a few rollovers on the lottery for that little lot though. Oh! almost forgot, big old house in Dulwich so can have lots of parties for my local pals.
  3. A good idea Sean but I rather like DM's suggestion too. Also, Oddbins (the King of Off Licence's in my humble opinion) in the Village might be a good bet too. I know a chap who works there (fine bass player too by the way), perhaps I'll have a word in his shell like. Also, I'm no wine snob but it is worth paying that extra few bob for a decent bottle, although it is still possible to get a quaffable bottle for under a tenner. So a nice chilled Chablis for the ladies (DM's suggestion) and perhaps a decent Haut Medoc for the chaps. Perhaps we could discuss this tonight at the Forum jolly-up.
  4. Absolutely Brendan. They shouldn't call it anything else with all that history. Also, if they can get the Guinness as good as Mary's in the Castle it may give them some competition.
  5. Marvellous idea DM. Being an old wino I'm well up for this. Perhaps we could start with a case of '61 Margeaux or Chateau Petrus '45 along as someone else is paying. Delicious but incredibly expensive.
  6. I've been saying this for ages and well done Louisa for bringing this up again. I remember the Grove Tavern when it was a proper pub. It had a very good restaurant too. It was Pub of the Year in 1972 if memory serves me well and I'm told that no less than Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor used to eat in there from time to time back in the 60s. Also, what a great walk - have a few pints in there and then walk through the fabulous woods and end up at the Dulwich Wood House for a few pints more.
  7. Blimey, that's a long way to go for a haircut Ms LadyGooner. I've never been before but will try and get there after we've been outclassed by the Brazilians. BTW:- You're not going for one of those are you?
  8. Yeah! Phone up Le Chardon, see if they'll do a takeaway for six.
  9. Well I am. Which reminds me I've got an AA meeting to go to. Obviously I still drink but under a different name. Swigs last of glorious '66 Armagnac and rushes for the door, byeeee.
  10. Marvellous, well done. Three cheers for Mockney. Gets down from the sofa, swigs large balloon glass of "bloody hell this stuffs good, may I have another?"
  11. I haven't been in here before. Just thought I'd pop in so I could avoid Big Brother. Yikes! Bloody hello there's rats in here. Leaps onto nearest sofa, screams like a big woosie. Get me outta here. Oh! no one's just run up my trouser leg. Help!!!!

    Big Brother

Oh God! It's started then. Missed it last night. I'm desperately going to try and avoid it as it is so damned addictive but I can somehow feel it's pull already. I may have to stay out for the next month or so while it's on. A good excuse to take a holiday abroad I suppose.
  13. El Rincon Latino on Clapham Manor Street is rather good. Haven't been in Barcelona for ages despite it being at the bottom of my street.
  14. I like the Kent/Sussex borders, a little bit into the country and not too far from the sea but I'm very happy right where I am thank you. A bigger house would be nice though.
  15. A family that eats together stays together. Having said that I live on my own. Doh! I love to eat out with friends in the local restaurants or uptown, although that can at times prove to be incredibly expensive but it's usually worth it. Rarely get takeaways these days, always cook for myself, always fresh and never anything from out of a packet. I try to use the local shops as much as I can but confess that I have a weakness for the excellent Waitrose near where I work.
  16. Thanks Asset, rather sinister and violent, but then so are most nursery rhymes. Back to thread. Hello, hello hello.
  17. Hello Asset, come on then, let's hear it, don't hold back.
  18. Hello Dulwich Mum, I'm afraid the Welsh are a breed apart. And you should know you married one. I did a gig in Wales once and had a bit of a run-in with the Welsh mafia (Tafia) and they made me an offer I couldn't understand.>:D<
  19. Growing up as I did in Dulwich Village in the 60s and 70s this was a normal custom, everyone greeted each other with a cheery hello or a good morning or afternoon whether they knew each other or not. This seemed to die out in the 80s and 90s where if you said hello to a passing stranger most people got the impression you were a nutter. It's only since a lot of my friends moved to the countryside over the last ten years or so that I noticed that the natives there still did this sort of thing so I hope it catches on here, but then again if we were to say hello to everyone we met on our busy streets then you probably are a nutter. Hmmm....
  20. That's what worries me Louisa. I demand Wandsworth water!
  21. I hope the pages won't be stuck together once you've finished that Mr Overhill.
  22. Yeah, I'll be nipping up for that. Should be fun.
  23. Good on yer Peckham Perkster for liking your ale and thanks for the info on Youngs. I'm a bit worried about the move of the brewery to Bedford as surely the water will be of a different texture and a pint of Special surely won't taste the same.
  24. I agree that the Forum can be rather addictive but Keef, you haven't got one of those Crackberries have you? Now that is sad.:(
  25. Keef, you're right about the Uplands, the refurb may have ripped the soul out of the place but then it's always been a bit of a dump. Anyway, soon I must venture to the FHT and check it out. It'll be the first time I've been in there for more than 20 years!!! It always struck me as being full of thugs "Oi! you staring at my pint."
