    a joke

The new Liverpool manager sent scouts around the world looking for a new centre forward to replace his old and decrepit players hoping to win the league. One of the scouts informs him of a young Iraqi player who he thinks will turn out to be a true superstar. The manager flies to watch him and is suitably impressed and arranges for him to come over. Two weeks later Liverpool are 4-1 down to Everton with only 20 minutes to go. The manager gives the young Iraqi lad the nod and on he goes. The lad is a sensation, scores four goals in 20 minutes and wins the game. The fans are delighted, the players and coaches are delighted and the media love the new star. When the player comes off the pitch he phones his mum to tell her about his first game in the Premiership. "Hello mum, guess what?" he says. "I played for 20 minutes today and we were three goals down but I scored four and we won. Everybody loves me, the fans, the media, they all love me." "Wonderful," says his mum. "Let me tell you about my day. Your father got shot in the street, your sister and I were ambushed and beaten and your brother has joined a gang of looters, while you were having a great time." The young lad is very upset. "What can I say mum, but I'm so sorry." "Sorry?!" says his mum, "You're fucking sorry???? It's your fault we moved to Liverpool in the first place!"
  3. I think most people would probably say the strip of Lordship Lane from the EDT up to Magdala is the heart of East Dulwich but I reckon you're about right in the centralising of Silvester Road, but just round the corner from there is the CPT and I think you'll get a lot of Forumites (Keef springs to mind) who would agree with me on that.
  4. And so is Bjork and Hot Chip
  5. Thanks Batdog, I noticed the thread. Sounds like a rushed job. Hope it's good though, it's just what the area needs and good luck to them.

  12. True CD, and I hope they don't balls that up. It would be great to have a pub on the lower east side end of the Lane within easy walking distance of home, one that isn't full of blockheads who want to start a fight after six pints of Stella and half a gram of Charlie.
  13. Oh! I know, it's Scot from the Bishop's new enterprise. Used to be the Brockwell Park Tavern before it was Gangly's. Haven't been in there yet, will try it out sometime soon.

    The Herne

Pa! It's already in the lounge.
  20. Nothing crafty about that at all. Any publican worth his salt should get tasty bar staff behind the jump. Puts bums on seats and sells drinks.
  21. That's great news as I've always enjoyed the food, ambience and great service of their other restaurant Lorenzo's up at the Palace.
  22. I'll drink to that. It was one of the first pubs I ever drank in when I was a teenager back in the early 70s.
  23. Marvellous! Anyone playing Little Richard at top volume is all right in my book. Wouldn't dream of complaining.
  24. A good link Macroban but it's a definitely maybe methinks. We'll just have to wait and see won't we.
