But yes, she can sound like a duck being strangled, albeit being strangled in tune. Ys really is a masterpiece though.
  4. Tom Waits works very well indeed. Well, for some.
  5. Deffo avoid the Bishop. I'd probably cut out the Gowlett and Montpellier too- or end in them. After the Flying Pig go to Four Quarters (lots of fun, good music and good beer) then on to Rye Wax (basement of Bussey Building- cocktail happy hour is 6-8 I think) then Brick Brewery/Bar Storey & Peckham Springs, finish at the Montpellier/Gowlett

  7. Kamasi Washington's staggering (STAGGERING) 'The Epic' 3 hour, 3 disc Jazz behemoth. It's taken 3 bus journeys but i'm nearly through it. I will start again as soon as it's finished. Nothing else will get a look in for a while. It's a trad/fusion/space/spiritual jazz monster, with a modern feel. He's a saxophonist/composer and is backed by a 10 piece jazz band, 32 piece orchestra and 20 strong choir. He's contributed recently to the Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamaar albums but that doesn't do him anything like justice.

  9. A troll-ey dash in Iceland?
  10. This made me chuckle. How extraordinarily stupid some people are. derwentgrove Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ....... 11. So, the year that keeps on giving....keeps on giving. Jacco Garnder's new one is superb. Similar vein to the first (pop/folk/psych loads of catchy tunes), which was good enough but this is another notch up. Also, I never thought i'd hear myself say this but, the Alabama Shakes record is a bit of a revelation.
  12. What's wrong with that? It seems rather nice You seem rather bitter. Did a hipster steal your girlfriend?

Surely if it was 'spit & sawdust' they wanted then it wouldn't be closing down due to lack of custom? Or was it too far the other way?
  14. Ah, just read the peckham peculiar piece- I missed the point a bit.
  15. I think there's a fair bit of traction up that end now- and even if it starts slowly it won't stay that way for long.
  16. " Given the profile of those killed and injured > recently, that's pretty distasteful. Young mums, > middle aged art directors, senior architects. Not > those you tend to see riding recklessly." The gentlemen I spoke about could easily have fallen into a couple of those categories. Quite a 'bookish' looking chap, well dressed, late 30's early 40's at a guess. I think it's dangerous to generalise, whichever way the generalisation goes.
  17. Was riding down rye lane in rush hour about a month ago and stopped at the zebra crossing by khans to let people cross. A guy cycled straight across and hit an elderly lady and then had the temerity to shout at her "well, cross faster then!". This poor lady was so shocked- all she could muster, in a broken voice was , "why did he do that?!". I cycled after him and gave him a piece of my mind, and he just kept smiling at me and saying, "does that make you feel better? Carry on if it does" over and over again. Sometimes I wish I was a violent person. Quite a well to do chap he was too. An American stopped at the lights with me and said he wished he had the magic power of pointing at people and making them literally shit their pants. I thought that would be terrific.
  18. It will be a 100k flat (Thames Path Challenge) in 24-ish hours. I have very comfortable, well cushioned approach shoes- I think these with a good pair of socks and compeed might be the order of the day
  19. Thanks very much
  20. What were your blister avoidance tactics- or is that a losing battle from the start?
  21. I'm on the verge of signing up for a 100k and would love to pick your brains about a few points

He's just got a support slot for Ryley Walker in Bexhill this Saturday. Ryley Walker's album Primrose Green is probably my favourite of the year (very Tim Buckley/John Martyn).

Insanely busy on the Sat > though. The Independent Label Record Fair is great if you go along with an idea of what you're looking for- otherwise it can be quite daunting. It was still a good day however; particularly considering they had the brewers fayre running alongside. An independent label fair is in peckham at the start of March, at the Peckham Pelican https://www.facebook.com/events/1714900188736370/?ref=98
  24. Inevitably there's a few record shops/stalls opened on rye lane- the best of which at this stage is Rye Wax in the basement of the Bussey Building. Their stock is fairly limited but there's a bit of interesting stuff. There's also one that is mainly electronic music that looks half decent- but i've forgotten which market alley it's up (off rye lane though)
  25. I think record store day has had it's day now. It was set up with the intention of celebrating independent record stores and to get people buying vinyl again. People are buying more records now than since the 90's and record store day seems to have just become about buying a limited press to put on eBay or discogs to make quick money. It's served its purpose and has now become a parody of itself- in my opinion.
