just seen a woodpecker on one of the trees by the road on peckham rye. Quite a different colour to the reddish ones I have seen before = more of golden/green and black. Very excited (am I VERY sad???)

Changing Bags - recommendations???
tiddles replied to littleEDfamily's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Check out the funky mamma bags here - wish they had been around when my two were small!! all there was around was the revolting mothercare navy with a frill option - yeach http://www.alfonsodenicola.com -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
tiddles replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
hmm I am really not sure how I would feel about my child's "memorial" being removed because it was unsightly. Yes the flowers are dead and it looks sad - rather fitting I think. Every time I see it I so feel for that family, and for the girl killed at the bus stop just across the way. I understand the council's reluctance to brush it all away and for once agree with their tardiness in doing so. -
the asbestos was still there this morning!

to get around premium rate numbers, go to this website and tap in the number or company name- it will search and come up with a normal number for you to ring - I use it all the time http://www.saynoto0870.com

C-section recovery & Kings labour wards
tiddles replied to Countjc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Two planned C-sections at kings - both procedures absolutely fine and actually enjoyable. I breast fed both mine with no problems at all - only problem was getting them to stop after a year or so. Big pants - top tip. I found the food awful so went for the curries etc - they tended to have pulses and rices and be a more satisfying and less glutinous option. very best of luck you will be in good hands. -
Nursery then JAPPS (pre prep for JAGS)
tiddles replied to anna75's topic in The Family Room Discussion
even worse if you know its the best option and you just cannot afford it!!! (no big house or fancy holidays thank you just flipping utilty bills to pay) that is why it is so contentious - some are lucky enough to afford it and some are not. That's life. Those of us who can't feel cheesed off as we are letting our children down and are powerless to do anything about it especially at secondary level. If you have a superstar bright kid then they may get a scholarship and jolly well done. If you have a normal bright bookish child then not much you can do except know that they would have done better in the private sector. I am not blaming anyone or taking sides, but please remember there are alot of us out there who know what we would like but just cannot do it. -
toddler being allowed to pee in the street...
tiddles replied to SCSB79's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I was caught like this years ago (my child not me!!) - with teenies i think it is ok. Where are you supposed to find a public loo in lordship lane?? My children were always mortified but had little choice if really desparate. -

I am an out and out cat person however I absolutely love going to the park and seeing all the dogs running about and making friends with each other. what a horrible sterile environment if the dogs were all muzzled and on leads. My kids and I get such pleasure from all the dogs running around. I have never felt intimidated by a dog (except when I was bitten as a child - didn't leave much of an emotional scar) however I do appreciate people being rightly concerned about attacks such as that on poor little woody. These dog owners are the minority and must not ruin things for the responsible majority. Lastly, whenever I see young chaps (the sort with a hoody and trousers that need a belt) with a dodgy looking dog, I always smile and say 'oh what a lovely little dog, look kids isn't he gorgeous?' and even if they don't make conversation, they always smile!!!

my kids are a bit older (8 and 12) and have never had fillings however the dentist advised adult toothpaste for them now as the fluoride content is higher -but the problem is I have not yet found a mild mint adult toothpaste, they all seem to be super 'fresh' which = strong mint. can anyone suggest a mild mint adult toothpaste as I am amazed that I cannot find one!

tiddles replied to American Robin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
yes the latter is true. definitely appeal -
we were toying with the idea but I was concerned about keeping them cooped up all the time because of the foxes. don;t they like to peck about a bit or are they ok in the eglu? do you move the eglu around much and do they completely demolish the lawn where they have been? sorry if loads of questions but it is something I am interested in.

I'd give it a year to be honest. I was helped by breastfeeding but I do think you need to not be too hard on yourself. Also I am sorry but most women I know who have children never get back that washboard tummy (not that I ever had one!) I was so wrapped up in my baby I wasn't that bothered, but after about a year I began to exercise and it really made a difference. Don;t go mad - babies are hard work and I really don;t like the media 'yummy mummy' stuff that we seem to be bombarded with now. Get the perfect lipstick and hide under your winter woolies as curlykaren suggests!

Travelling to and from Kingsdale School
tiddles replied to happyED's topic in The Family Room Discussion
nothing here either - is it supposed to start tomorrow? -
I have just seen one driving towards the goose green roundabout and tapping out on his machine at the same time - trying to get a lorry unloading outside the EDT. I was driving in the oppo direction and was not on the ball enough to get his reg no blast!

I think the ofsted report was incredibly misleading and is causing unnecessary panic as is clear. Its a lovely school with a majority of great teachers - lets face it there are always one or two who could do better. The education my two have had there has been great. I think the fact that other well established schools have had a similar result speaks for itself. I am a volunteer at the school and was there when the inspection took place. A gentlemen sat in on our class for 10 minutes and then sauntered off - if any judgement was made on that basis I would be very unsure of its validity. There have been changes sure, but I still have complete confidence in DKH!
