thanks for the heads up - look at the small print - you should pay only ?60 or ?65 (only!) if you do it within a couple of weeks

it is a bit daft to have any kind of 'do' that involves fireworks, on the weekend of bonfire night and name it something else - do it february - we could all do with a bit of a boost then.

book for someone who has suffered a bereavement?
tiddles replied to sophiechristophy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
yes its awfully tricky isn't it?? When I was bereaved (for a very young child) I really would not have responded well at all to a book = this was my grief and no one was going to suggest that there was a given pattern to how this proceeded. However when the grief is part of the natural cycle of things (ie an older person who has lived a proper life) then I think I would have accepted such a book with more grace. One can feel very fragile and everything is incredibly personal/sensitive. You don't want 'your' person/loss to be lumped in with all the others that have gone before - am I making sense here? And of course, everyone reacts so very differently. Hmmm not much help but wanted to lob some personal experiences into the mix. -
London2Brighton bike ride-WELL DONE!

oh cripes haven't brought my sponsorship money in! can we just drop in with an envelope?? edited to add I am a sponsor not one of those magnificent cyclists! -
minkey - that's very interesting as my child got bitten on the ankle by a very small black fly in peckham skate park (a couple of years ago) and it caused the whole leg below the knee to swell up!! always wondered what it was!!

well good if that is the case. at the moment the road narrowing appears to be both sides of the road at the entrance to oglander/coppleston. Usually traffic calming is a little more spaced out. My alarm is somewhat curtailed if it is a water/gas works thing
-
it is the cyclist point of view that makes me doubt these works - at the moment the traffic is having to stop to let traffic in the oppo direction thro. When the works bollards/cones are taken away traffic will try to squeeze thro making cyclists very vulnerable. I am interested in the reasoning behind the council's plans - busy main road/bus route lets make it harder for traffic to pass thro. If people cannot make a straight forward journey on a main route, then all the nutters that cause the problem will drive like loons on smaller rat-run roads.

Kingsdale being investigated for malpractice
tiddles replied to BB100's topic in The Family Room Discussion
But why wait until the end of term to report these allegations, as everyone leaves for the summer break, rather than straight away when these transgressions were supposedly taking place? Seems a bit strange to me especially as it might impact all those children who sat their exams actually get their results at the normal time and how that could screw up their path to further qualifications. Surely better to have acted immediately so that kids sitting these exams could be invidulated by an outside body if deemed necessary. I have a child at kingsdale so obviously interested, however my child has said that School are 'stupidly strict' (their words) during the exams - that you cannot even touch the paper before or after the allotted time etc - you get the gist! I will watch this with interest. -

Best Driving route to Cornwall? Any tips welcomed :)
tiddles replied to vanthorne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
we always do M4, M5 then A30 rest of the way. We always used to drive at night so the kids would sleep!! Plenty of service stations for pit stops. The A303 has been a nightmare with huge bottlenecks at particular points. That is just our experience. best of luck -
student selling paintings door to door, Bellenden
tiddles replied to Mrs TP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes I have had them round - no complaints - proper paintings of all kinds of styles - some were really good and very resonably priced. I think they were just being enterprising. -

on reflection, I think Alice has summed it up. Two people have locked horns and never mind everyone else. I think the rest of the school - teachers, parents, pta and all the other key players in a school community are going to have to cut these two loose and get on with what they have all been doing - educating all their children in a fab local school. only the one glass tonight......

david harewood in Plough sainsburies!! ding dong!!

*Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's hard to decide who comes out of this the > worst I think it's the East Dulwich Forum that comes out of this worst. (sorry still enjoying my daily mail moment...) I know the forum is a fab way for people to keep tabs, etc on local issues, but in this case, the forum comes off worst because threads are interpreted indeed mis-interpreted to the nth degree sometimes to the point to it all going off thread. People are rightly passionate about their local schools and what happens in them - lets face it getting into them seems to be a flippin nightmare. And also, there is a sense of outrage when one feels there is something nasty going on - in this case racism. (because we are a bunch of indie/grauniad readers) I know I have read posts where I have felt I want to stick my fourpence worth in even when I have no personal knowlede of the story ( thank you I don't need reminding - esp after a glass or two) however the old cliche - there are two sides - needs to be stuck to. I do not have children at the school but I know people I respect from both 'sides' ie not sure about new leadership, blah blah. However, to get to be head of a school you have to be pretty damn good and have a few years of experience under your belt. Taking over a headship of a good school from a long standing respected head is a tricky path - esp when ofsted changes how they rate things so it suddenly appears to slump. Any changes in approach are not well received - playground walking versus paperwork pushing in office) I would also add (and this may be wrong but hey, I have had my two glasses) I don;t think race is an issue here! I think it is new versus old. People don't like change! oh lord, thats it, I'm doing what everyone else is doing and making sweeping judgements based on no proper evidence reggie, over to you

thank you reggie - marvellous - a gem sorry to go off thread admin

the lordship lane one is useless - sorry! have never been able to buy children's shoes there as they never have the sizes - they are usually looking to the season ahead, so now is probably a good time to buy winter boots. The one in bromley is fine. I 'second' the order from the website idea. what about biff? Someone posted about a new children's shoe place in the east dulwich warehouse recently I believe.
