  1. this place is getting better each week - got some great books, and plan to restock the spice cupboard.
  2. this is either a spoof, or I think Kyle is about 10 and is playing on his dad's computer.......
  3. interesting - I had a direct email from kiranjit gondal with a pdf about the school and an address to send any queries. what I want is an ok local secondary school that my kids could walk to (crikey, there's an idea) so if the boys school was scaled down slightly and was for local kids (like the elm court/elm green school in west dulwich) I would be pretty keen. I won't go near the harris girls school as I heard from an 'inside source' that there is a real clan mentality - I don't want to use the word gang as it has the wrong connotations. Basically, the african girls stick together, the west indian girls, the asian girls and the white girls - they don't mix!! plus behaviour in the school - very bad. I plan to read the pdf in greater detail (hope it is not all puff) and lob off my queries.
  4. hmm tesco express.... I'm signing that flippin petition
  5. hi, popped in for a coffee and they have a petition on the counter - apparently southwark are refusing them their retrospective planning permission (apologies if that is not completely correct) but the gist is that they are being closed down. I did say I would think about it = basically, if nero had not got in, maybe we wouln't have been lumbered with foxtons. I didn't way it in a nasty way at all - not fair on the staff, however several people in the queue agreed with that principal. Yes, very hypocritical I know since I was buying a coffee!!! but I think that was the basis of the main objections to nero = the march of the chains. I suspect that so many people have complained to southwark about foxtons and they want to show that they can throw their weight around from time to time, Just a shame its poor old nero's
  6. I lived in an area which campaigned against a CPZ (no need for it) but I have friends near ED station who desperately need it. i am in favour of the continued 20 - 30 mins on LL but maybe the selected "pay" times as in herne hill. I am very averse to any system that gives the local council a chance to start charging premium rate for half an hours shopping, so completely support resistence to controlled parking (it is just another revenue earner = nothing to do with resident's convenience) but I can appreciate the frustration of residents who cannot park anywhere near their home. (foxtons dontcha hate them - ok lounge me lounge me I don't care.....)
  7. if i were you, I would head to the bottom end of lordship lane, to the SE22/SE15 borders. in the bellenden area, you are close to Peckham rye station which has very frequent trains to city and victoria. The top end of lordship lane is miles from a station which means you have to brave the buses (sorry bus fans). at the goose green end, because of the proximity to LL people tend to walk about - a much friendlier area than the top end near library, where people seem to drive from their houses. If you like quiet solitude and nobody about, then the top end is for you
  8. used to live in bellenden area = the P13 antics had to be seen to be believed - DG you were lucky not to have had your car damaged (as frequently happened) since moving into SE22 they seem to be more considerate in this area. I can imagine it's not an easy job manouvering a bus round the back streets, but they didn't always help themselves - often saw two P13s locked in combat with each other!
  9. what was the meeting at St Thomas Moore hall like - couldn't attend due to work commitments
  10. shoes - pleeeeeeeeeze
  11. snap up that place!! I know lots of people who have used it/are using and are very happy. I put my daughter on the waiting list when she was 6 months old - she's 9yrs now and we never got a place! I was never happy with our childcare arrangements - all the good childminders/nurseries were full when she was a baby/toddler - one of the reasons I gave up work when number 2 came along..
  12. I have always found zenoria street impossible to park in (no doubt a real pain for the residents) and consequently never bother now when I do visit LL. This warehouse is so close to LL that I would imagine most of the trade will be on foot, popping in round the corner from our main thoroughfare. I quite understand the fears of residents, however was rather excited by the idea of a bunch of independent traders. I just hope that the warehouse idea comes thro without too much aggro and we are saved another estate agent, curry house, drinking den.......
  13. I always wear a red poppy - and don't feel it any way condones war. I feel it represents the absolute waste of life and all the potential of those who die in fighting wars. I can't think of anyone who believes the first WW was a good thing. The second WW always gets more tricky as there was a very clear wrong doer, however I feel very aggreived at the loss of life at the moment with Irag and Afganistan. I am not from a military family (altho my dad was on the wrong side in WW2) but so feel for all these young people thrust into such a contentious 'conflict' at the moment. I remember my dad talking about trying to find the bits of his mates after particular battles and just cannot imagine what the hell it must have been like. He survived and went on to have a normal family life. Pity the poor souls who didn't and think of it still happening now - and as Chav quite rightly says, the complete lack of support they get if they do return.
  14. I was intersted to read these updates as we were away for half term - just want to let you know that I am still keeping my eyes peeled. I suspect that miss red bunches has probably dyed her hair by now, but just because there have not been any postings, doesn't mean we are not still vigilant! It is so important that these children don't get away with it, from the 'justice must be seen to be done" vein but also to perhaps stop some little minxes going too far down the wrong path. I know they sound depressingly experienced, but it would be great to stop a slippery slope (for ALL our sakes!) cheers Jan
  15. mouse I am so with you on this. Have had this twice lately when trying to park near LL before shooting off somewhere else (hence no bike) and I too have driven round and round, passing 9 minis. Yes the fact they are branded does make them flippin obvious. The foxtons office itself is a horror (I do like modern architecture but there's something of the wideboy geezer about them - that ruddy big screen showing sky all day......) so yes, very annoying, and I rather suspect that the planning dept never even thought about that. The residents in the streets behind have my sympathies.
  16. oh cripes, makes you want to weep doesn;t it? and the cinema was demolished fairly recently (5 yrs or so?)
  17. which part of underhill? (its a long road) I am on friern rd where it intersects - I shall certainly keep my eyes peeled going by other recent appeals for cats, the little monkeys seem to turn up after a couple of days! good luck
  18. move to bellenden - close to Peckham rye, zone 2 and 10mins to London bridge. also very close to LL for nights out value for money but limited houseing stock (lots of terraced 3 bed houses - usually with good 100foot gardens) alternatively - sydenam (as mr darcy mentioned) or Crystal palace. You need a railway station and a good cluster of shops/bars that you could envisage hanging out of an evening.
  19. no no no, dulwich park fairy keep going but keep it legal! I love reading all the reviews no matter what they say. I am turning into a secondary school bore, and welcome ALL comments - dodgy or not. Also, amongst all the 'our school is great' - which actually is the case now in ED (yeah!) I relish these little interludes of "now what's going on there...?" sorry, obviously too much time on my hands -
  20. I think the green and blue thing was a genuine one-off mis-understanding. Reading the posts about the green, this is a long and sustained campaign of crummy service!! I wouldn;t be surprised if they had their own sweepstake on their awfulness.
  21. I am really shocked to hear this - I used to run all around the bellenden streets at night and never, ever, felt threatened. There used to be (?) people around, walking about, and so I felt very comfortable. I am also surprised that no-one heard any 'rumpus' and came out. Please be assured, this is a real one-off and you were jolly unluckey. Surprisingly, i feel more uneasy pounding the steets in the deserted wasteland of 'the upper east side' where people really do seem to be locked behind closed doors (sorry chaps - you've heard this rant before). the other nasty side to this is, I am looking at every non-white bunch of girls for distinguishing marks - white puffa jacket and red bunches, which is horrible. I hate the idea that we can slide into 'daily mail' land and their generalisations, but I am checking out every gang of girls (not boys tho so there is hope) Hang on in there - it really is a very nice area
  22. we had a hilarious visit there one sunday for lunch. We asked if they had a table but as we were being lead to it, another waiter started berating him as they obviously didn't want us! Usual thing, long wait for menue, very snooty waiter took the order, - one of our party (french) asked for a glass of champagne (on the menu)however the waiter said that he didn't want to open a bottle, and you shouldn't drink champagne at lunch time. We actually found this rather funny and realised that our being in such good humour really cheesed them off. We spent a pleasant 2 hours enjoying our one course meal (sans champagne) being horribly cheerful and not, of course, leaving a tip we've never been back since
  23. harry, why are you up so late?????? (not homework!!!)
