  1. aha yes that fiat was there first thing this morning - not good as my rear was stuck out into barry road - however rather unusual - we go thro there everyday and there isn't usually a problem hope its a one off
  2. should we book for a sundy lunch?
  3. actually snorky I don't think there is BNP sympathy amongst the masses. The thing about the BNP is that it is rather unpatriotic. It's just not british. What did we fight WW2 for? (yes alot of pensioners might have a legit gripe given how they are treated) but that is nothing to do with the BNP lot and their twisted world. Lots of people taking advantage of this country and what we offer - brits and non brits. but bottom line is, the BNP are a load of saddo, ignorant, twits. Being british (whatever your origin) is being above them. they are the lowest of the low. got a problem? blame a generic group- that is their answer. I cannot think of any person with an ounce of nouce who would admit to being a member. I have come across racsist people who when, pinned down, actually would not support them. The daily mail reader who is an avid churchill supporter could not really nail their colours alongside the bnp. the Marxis/leninist bunch are just not as obvously offensive as your run of the mill bnp bod.
  4. I gave up on freeview as our service was very intermittent despite having a brand new aerial installed. Had to go to cable
  5. why not just do one of those comparison website things - I have saved a heck of a lot on buildingds/contents insurance. When I have been given a better quote, I have given my existing the chance to match and they couldnt. I admit I kept thinking I had missed something crucial (but hadn't)
  6. sorry, so is it ?15 as an introductory special or ?35? I rather fancy a go at this!
  7. I thought this was sorted now?? didn't I see joanna lumley outside the high court last week on tv??
  8. exactly = to paint it that colour? = the perfect backdrop for more graffiti? at least a splodgy green to blend with the artwork as a whole would have been a better option. I really wonder about who makes these decisions.
  9. yes, but does this tram go hand in hand with the tram depot - ie can we get one without the other? cos the tram depot plans were scary
  10. gosh, as a parent of two it is difficult not to be totally freaked out by the dreadful things that do happen to children, however I also feel that there is a sort of hysteria nowadays with regard to people with cameras and film in public spaces. Ok my children are old enough to know about stranger danger, saying no etc etc. I did see a man being questioned by police in dulwich park the other day - he was a little dishevelled and had a camera and was totally mortified by being stopped by the police. I think they had a look at his camera and saw shots of a load of ducks in the pond. He was talking to other adulst about how awful he felt and what was obviously being thought about him - They left him alone but I did feel for him. Yes, I understand that there have been some dodgy chaps lurking around those bushes where the kids climb, but most of the time we just have to let our kids run around and have fun - they are fully dressed for gods sake and supervised (from a distance) As someone else had said, with some crimes, any suggestion at all and one is tainted for life.
  11. yes, I agree with pierre...
  12. great news, holly and I are so relieved!!!
  13. we are in friern road with no water this morning - who else is affected?
  14. I think most people want the school but not if it means squashing the pupils in, with not much space for exercise and fresh air at play times. Maybe there are plans for the children to be allowed to use part of peckham rye for recreation/sport?
  15. I am in complete agreement with all the discussion about this school - by golly we need it but the plan is seriously flawed - we are short changing the children who will be attending. However this is a done deal and I very much doubt that the powers that be give a monkeys about what parents/locals think or feel about this. As long as they tick the boxes the career politicians and councillors will spout the usual number crunching stats without ever answering the questions put to them. I applaud you brendapermaul, Edsoc and Dagmarj for your unstinting efforts however this cynic feels that we haven't got a hope in hell and it is going to become a sink school before it has even opened. squash them in - as long as it ticks the boxes, who cares what actually happens to these children.
  16. details please - make/model/colour could well be dumped in local streets if nicked for a laugh
  17. yes, bellenden area is fab - and Peckham rye station is really good. We moved to the top end of lordship lane and do miss the proximity to the station. Bellenden road is much closer to lordship lane than alot of east dulwich
  18. any problems with foxes?? we were toying with the idea but since we often see foxes hopping over the fences during the day, thought they may become a target. I know the new 'runs' are foxproof, didn't want to keep the chickies completely cooped up all day long.
  19. I think Kfords post is very telling - and the reason we really need to avoid these. They are money making and in most cases just not necessary, however I do appreciate that there are certain streets with real parking problems and pain for residents. Twice CPZs were propposed within the bellenden area, and twice each street affected submitted their petitions against. There was no way the council could enforce these with the weight of evidence against, however this was very time consuming for all involved. There were, however streets where they were in favour however the council would not enforce them for such small areas. Herne hill seems to have the pay parking for 2 hours in the day - which seems to keep their roads clearer - could something like that be looked at? - tho I am sure there are drawbacks - somewhere. Once a CPZ is in place, the streets will be crawling with traffic wardens looking to meet their quotas - come hell or high water.
  20. yes, I got caught out there as well - and we have lived here for years, but had never had cause to drive down rye lane before. there is a sign, but not huge - we were behind several buses at the lights (yes, should have been a clue), so didn't see sign or the lettering on the road. If the traffic seems to be driving along somewhere with no problems, one tends to (sheepishly) follow!!
  21. hi - was unable to make the "do" at darrell road yesterday - anything achieved or was it just people getting together for a bit of a (justified) moan?
  22. went last night for first time in ages - back to usual form thank goodness
  23. That junction is tricky - til you know it! I often turn right with no problem (sorry) but you do have to sit in that box which you are allowed to do if turning right HOWEVER I completely agree with earlier mentions of blatant red light jumping at high speed - usually peak times. I am amazed that nothing serious has happenened at that junction esp as there are quite a few nervous newcomers. A filter would be a very good idea as there are alot of people who turn right!
  24. crikey, that is so scary! Seeing that buggy, not surprised Gran is still in shock. don't want to be a complete doom monger, but what happened to the little lad who was in an accident in a bus lane further up LL? (I think near post office/somerfield). One just wants to know that they were ok in the end.
