  1. fazer71 the thing is, you won't get your guaranteed parking. look at the streets involved - lots of divided houses into two properties + 2 cars. you are just going to have to fork out ?100 and upwards to chase your neighbours for the limited parking. (all the white lines and extended yellow lines will mean fewer spaces) and quids in for all the traffic wardens who will be patrolling your streets looking for minor parking infringements, plus of course those extra ?? for any chaps who come to work at your place...... the CPZ will ripple thro ED and limit general shopping parking til the only shops left on our high street are the chains who can subsidise the higher rents and drop in impulse shopping (oh damn, cannot find a space, no change for the machine - stuff it I will go to bromley) - have you visited northcote road??? well just imagine that could all be yours...... oh goody and **** you to all the independent traders who have been here for years before the 'gentrification'. Altho James seems to think he is some champion of long time residents - I have 18 years under my belt so I think I am entitled, under his terms, to have my say! rant over.....
  2. gosh thanks for this = also passed me by and had a trip planned!!
  3. actually I am wondering the same - yes some did say yes, but the majority said no, so why the deliberations? I think that it is a done deal and the consultation was merely a tick boxing exercise - tho unfortunately the right boxes weren't ticked. I think that James (and southwark) have already decided they want it and are trying to find a way around the results. Shame really as I have always been impressed with James as a councillor. I remember when they tried to introduce a CPZ in the bellenden area and the residents organised petitions and won. The council said they would therefore would leave bellenden alone. three years later they tried again, and once again the residents had to go thro the hassle of organising petitions (and again the results were the same and no CPZ). I am anti CPZs as, IMO they are just another way of the council getting money from car owners. The problem with East Dulwich is that there are lots of converted houses - so one property, two flats, two cars. Derwent road is a good example, so even with a CPZ there probably isn't enough space for all the cars - but you would end up paying ?100 - ?200 for chasing the same limited spaces. We have several friends in lambeth and they are charged over ?200 per permit - and one does find that the charges never seem to go down. Yes I know we should not be owning cars and using public transport but the reality is that in this day and age most people do.
  4. hi there - I believe it is not unusual for gestational diabetes to occur, however I feel they should have given you a bit more info - ask if there is anything you can do to keep control your sugar levels. good you are testing tho - perhaps you could keep a record of times and tests so you might be able to spot a pattern?
  5. the school term starts tomorrow but there is an inset day (staff training) so no kids in school until wed.
  6. this is so sad - it has probably gone via the people who melt down the remembrance plaques! This is so sad - how on earth did they get in? the gates must have been locked??
  7. we have a dell laptop with a touchpad (the inbuilt mouse thing) the dog walked over the keypad and obviously clicked a button that de-activated this. the computer works with an external mouse, but we want to re-activate the touchpad - anyone have any ideas??? I am a mac person so baffled by pcs...
  8. sue ryder (charity shop) had some amazing dolls house furniture quite detailed but still toys - not the collectors stuff. also playmobil furniture seemed to be a similar scale and sylvanian families stuff. they are all very similar in size best of luck
  9. shove a polite notice on windscreens of cars parked outside the house a day or so before = make it really friendly and lighthearted and I am sure people will be helpful. one often sees bing reserving a space and if they have a sign saying skip or removal lorry then I think people think that is absolutely ok best of luck with the move
  10. yes always tricky - especially when some friend's older sibling likes to spill the beans. I found the best way was not to enter into any discussion (top parenting tip!) and like hello sailor, said that I really didn't know what went on in other houses, but Santa certainly visited ours! end of story, and they rather liked to quietly believe for a bit longer.
  11. copleston road is great - loads of lovely families, nice houses and very close to lordship land but easy walk to peckham station.
  12. or get rough dimensions and take the picture to dulwich diy - bet they could help
  13. just williams by goose green roundabout has some
  14. can we have your feedback on the discussion re the proposed CPZ please? just the thought of this makes my blood boil. I do not live very close to the streets in this proposal, but can see the council's long term aim of rolling this thro the area the complete area being blighted. There seems to be very little input from any councillors on this.
  15. I was given the clear implication that they were having to do this to supplement particular areas due to budget cuts - and I rather suspect that fund raising for the special care baby unit will get more ? than say the geriatrics (where I will be soon!!)
  16. had them recently - definitely legit - left a pile of bumpf. collecting for the special care unit due to budget cuts.
  17. ditto the microchip cat flap - works a treat
  18. hi I think it is probably better for older children - and it is very expensive to get into - ?25 for an adult and a bit less for kids. I only know as my ten year old was very keen to have a look (having read their annuals) but even he baulked at the price!!! take them round the corner to M & M's world to look at the pretty colours. Shameless corporate PR but very entertaining just to look at all the stuff - and don't buy any of the 'beans' as they taste disgusting - now if they were smarties........
  19. thanks for the heads up - look at the small print - you should pay only ?60 or ?65 (only!) if you do it within a couple of weeks
  20. it is a bit daft to have any kind of 'do' that involves fireworks, on the weekend of bonfire night and name it something else - do it february - we could all do with a bit of a boost then.
  21. yes its awfully tricky isn't it?? When I was bereaved (for a very young child) I really would not have responded well at all to a book = this was my grief and no one was going to suggest that there was a given pattern to how this proceeded. However when the grief is part of the natural cycle of things (ie an older person who has lived a proper life) then I think I would have accepted such a book with more grace. One can feel very fragile and everything is incredibly personal/sensitive. You don't want 'your' person/loss to be lumped in with all the others that have gone before - am I making sense here? And of course, everyone reacts so very differently. Hmmm not much help but wanted to lob some personal experiences into the mix.
  22. oh cripes haven't brought my sponsorship money in! can we just drop in with an envelope?? edited to add I am a sponsor not one of those magnificent cyclists!
  23. minkey - that's very interesting as my child got bitten on the ankle by a very small black fly in peckham skate park (a couple of years ago) and it caused the whole leg below the knee to swell up!! always wondered what it was!!
  24. well good if that is the case. at the moment the road narrowing appears to be both sides of the road at the entrance to oglander/coppleston. Usually traffic calming is a little more spaced out. My alarm is somewhat curtailed if it is a water/gas works thing
