  1. I think you would find it quite difficult to find anyone at the council to deal with this. You can call their call centre and they will log your details on 'the system' (which no one looks at) and then nothing will happen. I would crack on and make your changes - as long as it is nothing structural!!
  2. not sure of guides, but there are cubs and scouts in the bellenden hut and both these are mixed with a good balance of boys and girls.
  3. hello, my daughter is 15 and very experienced with babysitting small children in the evenings and children love her, you can call me for more info 02082995469
  4. and I think a note to neighbours is polite. At least you know it's a one off, and the fact they have warned people beforehand suggests some consideration for others.
  5. a card in the newsagents??? I think this is tongue in cheek. If I see an missing animal poster plastered to a lampost or fence, I make a point of going over and and having a good read. I think you will find that the posters are usually put around in the area where the animal lives. If they are not lucky enough to have a busy newsagents nearby, what are they supposed to do?? I have seen some missing people posters up too = do you take those down ??
  6. Agree with Sue re animal notices - please just leave them up!! somebody has taken the time to try and alert as many people as possible to their missing pet, and they do NOT return within your stipulated time. If you actually trawl thro the lost and found section, you will see that many animals take MUCH MUCH longer to be found (in sheds etc). I am really horrified by your behaviour. I understand wanting to minimise street litter, but you overstep the mark.
  7. puzzled, I think you could have been a bit more sympathetic (I maybe misreading the conversation). When people are clearly scared of my dog, I have always just said not to worry I will put on the lead and take away = as nimby points out, there may be very deep rooted reasons for this hysteria. you and I know that our dogs won't hurt, however the person concerned will not or cannot overcome this. I also think it a bit unfair for people not to enjoy our lovely parks because they live in fear of what they 'may' encounter. If they meet enough people with non aggressive animals this may begin to gradually live their lives a little easier. I too had one lady get very shrieky and panicky with me when I was walking my dog on the lead, so I just said I wouldn't come anywhere near her and we would go on ahead away from her - yes a bit irritating to be honest but no point in winding her up even further.
  8. well done fuzzy boots for giving this poor dog a kind and loving home, i wish her and your family all the very best - I bet you can't wait to get that muzzle off! I agree with lameduck and littlau - it is down to the owners. I have met several staffies or staffie cross dogs who are utterly delightful and are happy to put up with my dogs determination to have a good sniff. Similarly, I know that not everyone likes a dog, so I make sure he doesn't run up to children however he loves it when they come over and give him a stroke. There are some complete gits out there who give certain breeds a bad name (and also never walk the poor things) but we must try to not to generalise - yes easy to say if you have not had a bad experience with a particular type of dog I know. If someone seems to be aware of their dog and their potential behaviour then it makes all the difference! I think if we all respect the lead on/off areas that helps enormously. I would not walk my dog off the lead in the street as I know he would be off like a shot after whatever took his fancy!!
  9. hi there, ok I think santa is beginning to run out of ideas for what to put in a 11yr old boy's stocking? where could he visit locally for some good bits and pieces? younger ones are easy as there is lego and all the other little collectibles they like, but what is going to interest an older boy at budget prices?? thanks in advcance santa (ok actually one of his helpers)
  10. there is nothing wrong with dogs off the lead, but everything wrong with not anticipating and 'owning' your dogs behaviour. sincere apologies from this dog owning middle aged lady for the distrss caused by that owner's ridiculous behaviour.
  11. iphone? thought they all wanted blackberrys so they can 'BB' each other whatever that means
  12. hi yes I am a subscriber and it says you can download to an ipod!! I need a nerdy teenager who knows how these things work. I have tried wading through the community forums which are useless (well for a middle aged technical dunce they are) thanks
  13. Edited to say sorted = my ipod is too old fashioned! It needed to be one you can download the spotify app to. At least I can stop messing about with something that isn't going to work. Many thanks for all the advice people. sorry if wrong section. I have a spotify premium account, and am trying to copy a playlist to my ipod (which I should be able to do with the premium account) however when I try to copy the one playlist I want, it says I have to buy 70 tracks. Surely the whole point of spotify is that you don't have to buy all the tracks, as with itunes. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? many thanks
  14. I have a spotify premium account, so should be able to sync playlists to my ipod. I have wiped the ipod (as instructed) but when I try to manually sync the one playlist I want to the ipod, it is telling me to buy 70 tracks - surely having the premium account means that I don't have to do this?? any advice gratefully received.
  15. the voyage of the artic tern by Hugh Montgomery and Nick Poullis. we LOVED this - altho probably better for 10 year old. Magical rhyming (don't be put off!!) saga about sailing, adventure, regenge etc. We all looked forward to bedtime so as to get another helping!!
  16. sorted!! good old poundstretcher on bellenden road (I'm afraid it has to be cadbury's in our house)
  17. ok, I completely forgot to get them - anyone seen any cadbury's chocolate calendars for sale anywhere?
  18. oh yes Mrs TP, I know exactly what you mean. My children have been known to call for me to help them when their father is in the same room!! grrr
  19. Ah I was wondering how you had got on = delighted to hear it went so well!! Sounds lovely!!
  20. yes wasn't this development the one that initiated the CPZ consultation - 20 new properties probably with no parking provision made.
  21. This is for the mother of a little girl who was having a TOTAL meltdown in the co-op this afternoon around 4pm. Well done!! You were amazing - completely calm and collected and in control the whole time. I salute you!!!
  22. I have two teenagers and still don't feel I have cracked it!!
  23. yes definitely weaker the last few days
  24. The key is that everyone is considerate - unfortunately not always the case. As a dog owner it does nark me rather that despite the polite notice, there are loads of dogs off leads outside the cafe!! Also as first mate has mentioned there are a few cyclists who gun around the outside track - let alone dozy dogs, what on earth would they do if a toddler got in their path?
  25. no I have just had another look and it says school tables for 2012, no other date is given (I have scrolled up and down that page!!) so I think it is for the main summer results.
