  1. perhaps to do with the circus? on the field oppo harris boys school.
  2. I saw this yesterday afternoon. It looked like the road has been closed for 'playing out' whereby roads are closed for children to play safely. I thought it was for small side roads not major routes. It seemed pretty chaotic - to close a road at a major junction with traffic lights? It would have made more sense for dalkeith to have been closed for playing and keep the traffic off the side roads trying to find a way around the obstruction. I totally support the playing out idea, but this did not seem a very good implemention.
  3. There is a possibility that it was locked but they had a 'zapper'. A few months ago, four of my neighbours cars were done - with no sign of break in. I have since heard of several incidents very similar. thanks for the heads up
  4. I think this sounds extremely odd. I can only assume something dreadful happened in the past to cause this anxiety? IF this should ever happen, there is a) a good chance you would be not be carrying your weapon of choice at the necessary time and b) you end up harming small children or innocent bystanders whilst using said weapon. (just realised maybe you live next door to someone with a horrendous animal - which could be worrying - but otherwise I don't think there are many threatening dogs round here - I am a dog owner so might be considered biased!!)
  5. we have this in white and love it. really nice finish - a satin finish rather than hi sheen
  6. Hi all, here is the actual story about the fountain from southwark parks. All perfectly normal stuff and nothing to do with dogs. "There have been a series of issues with the fountain. At first there was just a crack in the bowl and works to repair this had been organised. We then found that the water that leaked out had caused a problem with the electrics in the pump. This has taken much longer to investigate, the non-standard nature of the parts created a delay in finding alternatives. I've recently heard back from our contractor and work should start on the pump next week, when it's done the rest of the water can be pumped out, the pond cleaned and the concrete repaired. We can then re-fill and turn the fountain back on" also, I think we all agree that peckham park has looked lovely (again) his year so it might be worth dropping them a line to say how much it is appreciated.
  7. what a shame - I really love listening to them on our evening walks. And to be honest, it is only loud right next to them (there are no amplifiers!) it's not like it's everyday!1
  8. hi all, the responsible dog owners group are trying to find out what is behind the dogs in parks survey. If you start at the beginning of the thread you should get an idea. Councillor Barber is also trying to find out what it is about. There are all sorts of possibilities as to what it might mean and what precipitated the consultation. Talk of 'incididents' but no specifics. There are concerns that all southwark parks are dog on lead only. I think they are trying to get some sort of dialogue going. I am a dog walker, whose dog loves a good old runabout and a meet and greet with other dogs, and is happy to pick up poo and respect the designated areas etc (that's me not the dog) I would add that I think most owners DO know the rules of th parks. There is always a few plonkers who insist on doing their own thing regardless.
  9. I would go for a sink. Really useful - I have a utility room without one and altho not essential, I would find it jolly useful. Also as a dog owner, I could dunk him in there rather than the kitchen one! also washing down welly boots, etc. not essential but pretty useful
  10. There aren't any signs for sexby gardens and wiring for a pond?? I think the cracked pipe sounds about right.
  11. Gosh chunksmum thats awful!! what time and whereabouts? description of dog? (sorry if I missed that) I walk everyday and have never seen anything like this (thank goodness) hope she makes a speedy recovery
  12. probably worth an email to the gardeners via the southwark website - this is the link for feedback/comments https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/DeptForms.asp?dept=25&section=Complaints+and+feedback I was thinking exactly the same thing myself. The gardens and borders have been lovely, and the sexby garden is a delight, but the poor old fountain is looking a bit sad.
  13. I am intrigued as to what these dog incidents are and look forward to seeing the data from Southwark. I am a dog walker, who walks twice a day in either dulwich park or peckham. I can honestly say I have never seen a nasty dog incident. Most dog walkers are awash with poo bags and ready to pick up - I have seen incidents where the owner was busy chatting and missed their dog however people will usually point that out to them. I do get annoyed when I see a pile that has not been picked up - very antisocial. Most park users are responsible, however I do find the piles of water bottles left by some of the footballers a bit annoying and the piles food packaging left by some of the picnic-ers also frustrating - but we would not dream of suggesting that these activities should be banned because of a few irresponsible people, or that groups of teenagers should be banned as some people find them intimidating (yes a bit far fetched I know).
  14. crikey!! that does seem alot! They are my regular vets and I have had nothing like that - just the usual check up fees and normal vaccination charges.
  15. david hayes the boxer in Rocca, dulwich village a couple of weeks ago
  16. I Understand that they are the consultants advising on the work to be done.
  17. not sure if this the right section so apologies if not. Pillows - looking to finally replace out much worn grotty pillows with some decent quality ones. I always thought that goose/duck down was the way to go, but should I actually be going for a high quality hollow fibre/micro fibre one? (a friend swears these are better) do they actually offer good support and keep their shape? we don;t have any allergy issues, but would love to know what you would recommend.
  18. I'm sorry but what IS going on?? one of the lovely things about where we live is the wonderful parks and trees (and tree lined streets) There seems to be a determined effort by the council to, without redress, hack about with the trees, regardless of whether it is necessary, and with no regard to wildlife. As far as I am aware, our local councillors have received a load of old waffle regarding the decisions taken, quoting external consultants - who I suspect (and I could be completely wrong) may also be responsible for making a complete hash of pollarding many of the boroughs exiting mature trees. Barry road is a marvellous example, however i must add that many roads in dulwich village have had their trees mullered as well. I suspect the council is hedging its bets in getting rid of as many mature trees as possible to as to prevent insurance claims. This has been mooted before, but a lack of response has been overwhelming. I have had not response from my emails to the council direct. I think (tho cannot be sure) that others have also been unanswered. This makes me suspicious. Yes I have had a glass of wine, but this has been rumbling on for months now, without a proper explanation or reassurance from the council.
  19. also the uniform shop next to kwik fit (oppo end of elsie road)
  20. aha, I'd seen these recently too and had wondered about them.
  21. Are they the same consultants who have 'done' the trees in the rest of the borough?
  22. Holland!!! that's where I'll be sending my daughter (if she wants to pursue a degree) apparently sweden is good as well.
  23. Last night my friend's rather distinctive Fiat 500 was stolen from her drive in West Dulwich. It is bright pink with green flowers and Kate Eyre Garden Design written all over. We are hoping that it has been dumped somewhere after a bit of joy riding - if you should happen to spot this anywhere could you please ring her on 07976 916318. I know stictly speaking this is a west Dulwich thing (on their forum) but if it is over here it would be great to find it many thanks
  24. just hope the external consultants aren't the same people who have done all the trees on barry road and surrounding areas....
  25. I'm waiting for LA and New york to be back......oh such a guilty pleasure (and jaw droppingly awful at times.....)
