One hour free parking in the area...
tiddles replied to easytiger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I thought lordship lane was 20mins? Why Barry road area? - that is unlimited On the side roads there. -
I did the pudding basin version which worked perfectly. I used ready roll icing Which worked a treat - and I am a useless baker. Got the details From an annabel karma party cakes book. Best of luck!

Crystal palace road - line marking tomorrow??
tiddles replied to Jake L's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
How bizarre that no=one was informed?? Someone somewhere is certainly not doing their job - council or contractor I wonder. Good point about checking they are temporary = the more I read about the council, the less I trust them or their motives. I should add that I don't include James B as part of the council - he is a valuable and helpful conduit in dealing with them. What an old grump I am!!! -
ok, one of our many new year's visitors did not use a coaster, and our nice walnut sideboard (one of our few 'grown up' pieces of furniture) has a white glass ring. Does anyone have a fool proof method for removing or reducing its visibility. I have googled and there are lots of solutions using abrasive materials - toothpaste or salt which makes me a bit nervous. any advice gratefully received!!

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
tiddles replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
with regards to the old betting office opposite the actress, it would be nice if it was a shop, effectively extending north cross road - leading up to the two lovely jewellery shops. That little parade had a nice boost with those two shops opening, along with the 'junk shop' and the brilliant rye books further up. It is a shame that the shop next to he junk shop has been turned into housing as that would have added to 'the parade'. -

what is that music???? lovely footage - any more? -
I have just done this out of interest and a range of house numbers in my street pop up. So does this mean these houses are identified as rented accommodation? seems a bit off to publish the details of where people actually are living and effectively their personal details. Intrigued as to how this is going to work. The web page doesn't give enough info about the aims.

Thoughts on buying in the Dog Kennel Hill estate...
tiddles replied to tigerlily's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don;t think the estate is a problem, but the deal breaker could be the bills you are presented with for works to the buildings. It seems to be an open cheque to southwark (or their contractors) there is quite a lengthy thread on here about it. I think the main problem is that normal people are presented with rather hefty bills for minor stuff. best of luck. -

Dulwich Estate to develop housing on school playing fields
tiddles replied to Dadadada's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
And the large amount of revenue it takes (if not to call it profit) is given to the private schools - alleys, jags etc. There was another long thread about this very thing somewhere on the EDF -

thanks for the attachment regarding the dropped kerbs H bars James. The document explains that H bars are sometimes installed, and now they are regarded as street clutter so they are not going to do that anymore - but it says they might introduce yellow lines instead. I feel that random extended bars of double yellow lines dotted about the place seriously increase street clutter. Rather bizarrely, I find white lines more benign than yellows? Most people regard street clutter as excessive signage - usually at head height that may or may not convey useful information - or actually hinder the provision of said information. I love the way there is no discussion as to why this has been discussed, the pros and cons of them and how this might ultimately impact an area. quite brilliant. -
that is exactly what I thought dulwichquine - I think the no right turn could actually become dangerous as people race around finding alternatives (one of which is bound to be 3 point turns in daft places actually making it more dangerous for the many children at several different schools) I pity Gilkes crescent

Trees-trees-trees in East Dulwich
tiddles replied to Lee Scoresby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Lee - couldn't agree with you more regarding the faceless suits who make their random decisions- will they be in a good or bad mood today ? thumbs up or thumbs down? I appreciate that decision making is often much more complicated than it would seem but you certainly struck a cord with me?? keep up the good work -

oh lawks not more double yellow lines?.. sorry but I don't think this is the answer to that junction. The double whammy of a bend and a hill. -

Offer suggests choice - one can choose to have double yellow or not. I think they are enforcing double yellows which is not the same. -

Cycling and the ED street grid
tiddles replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
the discussion seems to me to be about consideration for all road users, especially on narrow roads and near schools where there have been some incidents involving people who really should know better. simples not the rights and wrongs of car drivers versus cyclists in general -
also, one can be particularly brilliant in one field and not another. We have a child who is fabulous at humanities, but is a completely dunce with numbers. Their brain is wired in a different way - and it would seem daft to me to exclude a very strong pupil on the basis of a failing in a field they they will not (and never will) be able to pursue any further in the future. They will still have to keep trying to take the blasted Maths GCSE ad infinitum in order to go to university (if that is what they want to do) We too looked round all the sixth forms but ended up staying put - confirming it as our favourite. I think even if you are really sure, do have a look about - its good to get a feel for what you like or not. best of luck to all the parents traipsing around the sixth form open days!! I have to admit I was impressed with all the local schools.
