  1. fab I thought this line was going to be about some appalling services offered
  2. gosh jogojo that sounds awful. For info, we used Harradines who were recommended to us. they did everything they said they would for the price that was quoted. we would recommend them to others cheers Jan
  3. just to clarify re the rascist nutter - not me!! I may be slow adjusting to my move, but I certainly have no plans to leave SE22 or london for that matter. Yes I know I have only moved a mile or so be it seems further!! cheers
  4. my husband and I have had 5 letters each from foxtons, plus one each from our previous residence as redirected mail. Drove past today, the size of the frontage looks like a supermarket. I hope they all overheat from that expanse of glass.....
  5. typical, I move from the bellenden area and a new eaterie opens. I wish them the best of luck. It is a much nicer area than say, the top end of lordship lane which is where I have moved to.... soullesss!! bigger houses but a definite lack of community (ok, so haven't been here a year yet so perhaps a bit soon to pass judgement!) I shall be paying a visit! ps and if you wonder why I moved, it was for a bigger house - unfortunately there is not much between the standard 3 bed terraces and the fab houses in grove park)
  6. so where is Dulwich Mum anyway?? I was looking forward to meeting her in the queue
  7. oh how sad. horrible to imagine that when the sun was shinging some person was feeling so awful. platitudes I know but...
  8. its fantastic but very expensive - I suppose the admission is based upon you staying all day, however it was about ?11 for me and 2 kids yesterday! Very nice loos too
  9. My friend has gone on holiday and her daughters' two guinea pigs have disappeared from the garden - alerted by the person looking after them. They have gone from a garden at the top of crystal palace road (near Landcroft road) Could you please keep an eye out for these two - dead or alive!! One was white with pink eyes, the other a mixture of black and sand. Not sure yet if it was foxes or foul play but we need to give some info to two little girls. Thanks
  10. yes, much missed - bet its not Fowey tho, something a little more discerning...
  11. Look I know I failed the 11 plus, but I did get a degree. Can't understand a flippin thing you are on about. Leave the EDF alone and become a whinging journo. Yes we are all anti big chain but secretly like them if they are the right sort. Of course we dislike all govt intervention and ID cards, tho actually if you have nothing to hide.... we all hate traffic wardens and speed cameras but don't like people who drive too fast esp near schools. We all get cheesed off by taxes but know we have to pay them. We all hate private education but thats because we can't afford it ( unless we get into Habs and then we know we are sorted) Lighten up buddy and welcome to the chattering classes - ED not islington stylyee Ps I love the guardian and Observer but lets face it the Times is a much easier read
  12. chemist in northcross road the best ever!! shame about rye lane boots however practically impossible to buy anything there since there is usually one till open for the whole shop. Rye lane is important to us in ED since it is still an old fashioned high street (ok slightly international) with a smiths, woollies mothercare argos etc and all those horrible shops that are great for popping to when you haven't got half a day to trog to croydon or bromley for. I have omitted Primark since their slave labour wages thing in the guardian (sorely missed but actually my principles have actually overridden the purse) I get quite cheesed off with ED types who don't use this shopping area thro ignorance or fear of the unknown. Hate those flippin weird churchs tho - I can say that since I have african people in my family who also think they are ****
  13. hi. My kids are are Dog kennel hill - fantastic and very happy, however I have noticed that ALL the local ED primaries are now very highly rated. there used to be a bit of Goodrich versus Heber which is now redundant - Heber is very highly rated. St Johns was the church going option, however I have heard a few odd bits about this (but then as a non church goer, perhaps my receptors were a tad too receptive??) Lyndhurst (more camberwell way) is excellent. They only one I can't comment on is Bellenden buts thats just my lack of knowledge. As far as I can tell, the primaries are all fab - its the secondaries where it all goes pear shaped!!
  14. leave nothing of worth on display. Our car is such a mess that on the occasions that we have inadvertendly left it unlocked, it has been untouched!! A dirty nappy left on the passenger seat usually gives an indication of what is inside. Actually, there was a 'street artist' from camberwell who videoded himself scratching cars with keys as part of his art project..... we lived in bellenden at the time and there was a whole line of cars with a continuation of 'key' marks which extended down the street.... never got this with that divinci chap...
  15. Had this sent to me - might be of interest: RYE LANE & STATION ACTION GROUP (RLSAG) residents & council working together MONDAY 23rd JULY 2007 6.00pm buffet refreshments 6.30pm - 8.30pm meeting at the Unity Centre 37 Peckham High Street opposite Persepolis, the yellow shop You will be very welcome at this meeting which will hear the latest on exciting plans to transform the station & surroundings, and we will discuss how we can keep up the momentum. We look forward to seeing many of you on Monday 23rd July. Please let us know if you think you can come. Some highlights: * a presentation from Val Shawcross (London Assembly Member) on the project to open up the piazza in front of the station, & discussion at the meeting with major stakeholders on next steps. * the project to open up the windows to the old billiard hall has uncovered original windows. Benedict O'Looney will show pictures of the project and report on its progress. * the accessibility (or rather inaccessibility) of the station and what we can do about it. * latest on train services & station management from Southern - come and put your questions & suggestions * discussion on how to improve the quality of trading in Rye Lane. * minutes of the last meeting are attached for information.
  16. I always think Rye lane is good fun for teenagers - esp after dark!
  17. I hate traffic wardens (ok, the system that makes them do what they do) I have never parked in a disabled bay (sorry, sanctimonious I know) Have a registered disababled friend who has been ticketed numerous times for not displaying the number clearly (you know how it slips down on the dashboard). A busy working person who is always 'dashing' from various appts all over london. She has now given up on appealing as it is so time intensive. so, I reiterate, I really, really dislike them. Give parking control back to the coppers ( they can supervise the attendents) so we don't get this ridiculous money/quota thing - and those that have committed a proper parking offense can hold their hands up - a fair cop. I heard a senior traffic person admitting that many of the companies running traffic control for local councils are private equity firms - so its obvious what is going on.
  18. saw Liz from Corrie in dulwich trader on sunday
  19. yes, I remember them filming last orders - we got all excited when the local junk shop in bellenden rd (now either lucias and richards or the dog parlour) looked like it was turning into an organic butchers!! then we found out it was just a film set...... normal service was soon resumed and all us incomers (been here 12 yrs now) all deflated
  20. much as I love my coffee, since Nero arrived, 2 local shops have shut down due to rent rises - any connection?? once the high street big boys are here, the local long standing businesses who rent will eventually be forced out. Yes, the coop, 7-11, somerfield and iceland have been here yonks, but its the 'trendy' shops who are going to really have an impact. I am afraid that I frequent all of these so am certainly not blameless - it's the old contradiction of old and new - whats progress and what is destruction of a local high street. ps petitou is fab
  21. I notice it's open, and has reverted to its original name of "the plough" not the goose and gerkin or whatever it tried to be called before. Can't bear it when they change long standing names...... oh dear, I sound like my mum
  22. we moved 6 months ago from peckham to east dulwich and my insurance soared! Did some shopping around on the internet and M & S were the cheapest. It really depends from insurer to insurer. For info, we were paying about ?350 for contents and buildings insurance in peckham (3 bed terrace) to ?736 for a 5 bed semi in a 'nicer' area. I think it is the old subsidence thing good luck
  23. which one do you mean - there are a few
  24. Yes we need a school desperately (and hopefully my boy will go there) but its the usual cock-up of the way they go about it. Want a school? well shut up and this is how it is going to be...... basically, the school should go on the existing site, but it sounds like it is going to be a big project squeezed in. I'm sorry, but why shouldn't the local residents be cheesed off if it seriously impacts on their environment/gardens??? Consultation is the way (as it was with the elm green/elm court thinghy over in west dulwich). This was a parent lead thing so everyone had a say. Of course there will be people unhappy with the outcome - no matter what, If the council can find a way to cock it up, they will. And please don;t squash every dissenting voice with being a nimby = let people have their say and let there be a grown up discussion about it
  25. marvellous!! glad to hear all is well. As an owner of two cats myself I am always so pleased when these missing moggies turn up. Great to know there is a load of people out there keeping their eyes open cheers
