The animal testing for the first SARS virus resulted in either the symptoms getting worse, or severe liver damage. The first SARS virus and this SARS 2 virus both act on the same cell receptors so a vaccine is going to be very difficult to develop if that is the case. Interestingly the Cambridge Virology team are saying that the DNA of the current virus is more like the DNA of a similar virus found in horseshoe bats 1,000 miles South of Wuhan..... How exactly are we being let down by our so-called glorious leaders? All I hear from the media is implied blame- this is a PANDEMIC- all countries are vying for PPE...How come Turkey did not deliver the PPE today- did they get a better offer? The Government is being led by the scientists. The problem with this WHOLE scenario is that when the outbreak happened in Wuhan, China STILL allowed flights out of the area.....WHY?

And if you're so 'in the know' then explain it 'properly' .... In fact the last reference there has another piece of worrying information

Kwik fit near goose green was open on Wednesday...so I guess they are not banned from opening for the very reasons you mention- phone around local ones or mobile car mechanics

Every year the Department of Health monitors the 'flu strains going around the world and then prepares a vaccine for the new ones to be given to us in September. (Cold viruses and 'flu viruses mutate and you only have immunity to the ones you have already had or have had a vaccine.) The current Covid 19 which is a SARS virus has had its DNA mapped and appears to be the SARS from 2002 but with 5 mutations which have made it a lot worse and more contagious I wish I didn't know anything about this stuff- it makes me very angry and sad but at least I know exactly why we have to follow the scientific guidelines- although I was appalled to see the crowds on the tube trains at the start of the lockdown

Opening up local school playing fields for exercise
seenbeen replied to Jakido's topic in The Lounge
Went over yesterday at lunchtime (have been going every day as its my nearest open space) and there were a group of men playing footie and another group playing footie. There were people in the tennis courts continuously. No dogs, and no cyclists. A horrible increase in Litter (for crying out loud!) Went over there today and it is locked, no reason given on their website. When I go over there I walk around the perimeter a couple of times - take a breather on a bench and then go home... There are gardens backing onto the field and they have gates and I've seen residents coming on to the field from the houses backing on. I can only assume that the inappropriate use has been reported or that the caretaker has not opened up for whatever reason. Anyway- will try again tomorrow.... -

Again, > with average speeds up, could we either see such > work suspended during this period or better still, > temporary residential road closures. Pop-up bike lanes are a bad idea - if you are on the pavement and have to get in the road out of the way of other pedestrians or joggers you will be in the path of at least one bike....let them keep to the middle of the road please. Also I would echo the sentiments of pinkladybird re the domestic builders. The ones that are working next door to me all shook hands when they were parting for the Easter Break...and I have already posted photos of them on the forum sitting together.

There was one jogger on the Alleyn's Track today...I'm sure those tracks are designed to have less impact on your knees, back, ankles etc than the pavement.

There is a convenience store in East Dulwich and very often things are bought and stamped on the side is the fact that the item is from a multi pack and should not be sold separately

alice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Noted that BBC figures show a 54% reduction in > shoplifting. How do they know how much is being stolen? Unless they are just assuming and extrapolating...I reckon the shops that are open are experiencing more than they usually do because a lot of shoplifters are kleptomaniacs

Yes I suppose that accounts for the number of people who use a public toilet and don't wash their hands.... I don't believe there are many out there including teens, who don't know what's going on especially since Primark is shut etc

Where is all the excess waste coming from? We are a family of four adults and we are at home almost all the time anyway for various reasons. We have never had a problem with excess waste over and above 1 blue bin, 1 green bin, 1 brown bin and a small food waste bin. I must say though I have been an almost obsessive recycler, refuser and re-user since the 1980s....

We've all seen the aerosol pix of people sneezing and how far it travels, and from what I've witnessed none of the coughing, panting, spluttering runners or cyclists put their hands over their mouths. And there are many mentions of instances where social distancing is not adhered to especially by teenagers and builders. People need to be aware of what is going on around them even if they themselves practice social distancing and all the hygiene because it only takes 1 second for a selfish/ignorant/unwary person to invade your space.

But some people just > don't think it applies to them. Yes Peckhampam is right. Every time I see a group of teens TOGETHER- they are the same age and obviously come from different households. They are putting themselves and their own families at risk. Their parents probably lost control of them some time ago and they will do just as they please. The public information is CRYSTAL clear....but as I read on a blog or post from a father- '24/7 parenting is impossible.'
