  1. You could try peer lending websites if you're comfortable with an element of risk.
  2. Reductions in savings interest rates, some by much more than the base rate cut. Parasites, vultures and blowflies.
  3. Bit puritanical to call them immigrants: they're exercising their right to be here. Migrants, if you really can't resist pigeonholing.
  4. French people are not immigrants: while the EU remains they have a right to be here if they want.
  5. Isn't Boulangerie Jade supposed to be French?
  6. Doubles as fake tan and a brunette hair rinse. Blondes could use chamomile tea bags instead.
  7. 'Guys and girls' should be allowed to die with Jimmy Savile.
  8. My top tip is that in John Lewis you can often negotiate on larger items. I got an extra ?80 off an already considerably reduced laptop recently and I'm still the proud owner of a ?1200 coat which I finally negotiated down to ?250. You need to have the conversation with a manager, though.
  9. Here you go, Louisa: this'll gladden your heart. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3738614/Petrified-family-driven-home-angry-POLTERGEIST-launches-clothes-room-flickers-light-switches-levitates-Chihuahua.html
  10. Pong (the first computer game, no reflection on previous poster).
  11. I'm told you can use 1 teaspoon of food-grade coconut oil but haven't tried it myself so not sure if it actually works, but I imagine it would only help preserve already healthy teeth.
  12. I'm in a nostalgic mood today. How about old-fashioned values like kindness, courtesy, consideration for others, thinking before you speak, duty, making the best of it etc. Maybe I should lay off reading biographies for a bit.

  14. Have you come across the one on the mainline platform at Blackfriars? Less announcement, more a sustained commentary on life. Can only imagine he uses the daytime job to practice for the comedy circuit.
  15. Hard to comment without knowing more about the neighbour as cultural or religious factors (ETA: or reaction to prescribed medication, or some kind of traumatic event) could also be behind it (or maybe the place actually is haunted). Perhaps you could knock on her door and say you were really concerned for her last night as she sounded scared and you wonder if there's anything you can do to help? Her response should give you an idea what's going on. If mental health issues ARE involved, she may already be known to MH services and have a care coordinator or crisis team she can contact.
  16. All men over 40 looked like Harold Macmillan or (fat) Elvis, as far as I remember.
  17. I'm not an expert, but isn't the company obliged to hold her job open for her until she returns, other than in the event of a reorg and redundancies? If the work can been farmed out to other people then I wonder how that looks to her. There may be a potential risk it could lead to a claim for discrimination or constructive dismissal. These things do happen unfortunately. If cost is a factor, perhaps you could take on an intern?
  18. Milk at break (warm, urgh).

Thanks, excellent article. Will give it some more thought.
  20. Footballers in short shorts.

Remember neckerchiefs tied around > our necks David Essex style ? Dunlop green flash? I have the Valentine's Day 1975 issue of Jackie in front of me right now (centrefold poster David Essex, back cover Slade). Ads for Anne French, Clearasil, jobs with Wrens/WRAC, Feminax and Limits diet. All seems very innocent now.
  22. I've often thought of that, PR, but was put off by all the stories about what medical students get up to with them. Do you think that kind of thing has stopped?
  23. Mine is to be buried quietly, without ceremony or music, in one of those Italian eco pod things that contain a tree seed so my remains feed its growth.
  24. Vol au vents. Queen's silver jubilee.
