Mick-Thats Stan Boardman who you may know, made his name on The Comedians Show 30 years ago and is still going strong and still looking quite similar. Funny seeing him in that great clip. How I wish I could turn back the clock and be part of the serried, swaying ranks of the (then) finest Football Choir of all...

How do you percieve East Dulwich?
Tony.London Suburbs replied to lgyaajh's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
One of the saddest sights for me was going back to my Homeland in The Walworth Road and seeing "Kennedys" English Sausages Shop close then I realised the Camberwell one closed and the last remaining Peckham one too in Rye Lane, itself. In fact they closed them all, probably 20-odd in total. Turns out that they realised that there was no longer the demand for these traditional British/English Sausages in South London where they had been based for around 100 years... They do say you should never re-visit old haunts...(6) -

I do respect opinions based on personal experience and as you have been a lomg-term Resident then its fair to assume that you do know exactly what you are talking about Louisa. I just feel the area in Peckham Road near The Library and the smaller buildings off Commercial Way and the demise of some of those Estates seems to have made it look better but I certainly would not want to walk thru' there, regularly, as I used to at 3.00/4.00AM in the early 1970's for sure... -

Well I miss the old "characters" from the "Five Estates" especially that nice North Peckham Estate...all them nooks and grannys....sorry NOT grannys, they were the ones who lost their Pensions on the way home from The Post Office... Nooks and Crannies..thats the phrase.... -
charliecharlie wrote: TLS, are you one of the Two (remaining) Gentlmen of East Dulwich? or is this just another Winter's Tale? :)) Actually this is one Antony that took his Clepatra away from The Hamlet that is Dulwich to become a Merchant of Bexley. p.s.My Cleopatra still has the needle over it, though:)

In all seriousness I have to tell you that none of my friends or acquaintances remain in "Inner" South London, which is sad. Particularly as it IS a great place, warts and all. Virtually all these people were from Generations of London(mainly South) Families and yet they, independently of ach other moved in their "millions" from London in the 1970's-1990's....certainly 70% of all Suburbanites come directly from Inner London or their Parents did. I've said b4 only 6 out of 645 School Pupils from my school who left in the early 1970's still live in South London (Inner)..more live in Sydney,Australia so can't be many more who do want to move out...? -
mockney piers. That letter is far too good to be hidden away on Page 5 of this thread. PLEASE do a seperate thread in The Lounge.(I would do butcan't do "Links".. Funniest thing I've read for a long while and it had me regularly laughing out loud and crying long before the end! Thanks for sharing.:)-D

Horsebox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Touched a nerve did i, tony? Read it again and > you'll see i said appreciate rather than > understand the game. Quite different things. Think it was the "ignorant" comment that I appreciated, particularly as I tried to follow the game as far back as when Baltimore were the "Colts". I'm an Adrenaline Guy,whether its the thousands of matches(Racquet Sports, mainly) I have played in or watched and its so irritating that its "Stop=Stop=Stop=Start=Stop=Stop=Stop=Stop=Start" ... It is nice to to see that you are actually taking a leaf from the NFL and inserting more breaks when you post. Thanks. It was you that wrote:- "Touched a nerve did i, tony"......as above? Horsebox Wrote: Am typing this from my phone so can't be bothered to try and remedy the ignorance shown by TLS, other than to say it's his loss if he is unable to appreciate such a complex sport. I'm sure you are correct in that,in my ignorant state,I haven't the intelligence to understand the "complexity" of this fascinating game. At least I'm in good company though as only a minute handful of The United Nations 178 Constitute Countries play or have the slightest interest in the game. In addition they plugged and plugged The European League and told us how wonderful it was and it collapsed ignominously. It collapsed in England and in London(population 7/8 Million) the Team had a regular attendance at the end of 10,000 for The UK Team. They promoted this Sport on Channel 4 and Channel 5 and several other Channels extensively, and it had only Minority appeal, and was thus, removed from the Airways. The ANNUAL Game at Wembley is watched by a very good crowd, as its a "One-Off"...I very much doubt if a 3rd/4th Game would draw much of a crowd. So it seems only Non-ignorant Members of the Sporting Intelligensia like yourgoodself are equipped to understand and thus enjoy the complexity of this Sport Horsebox.... :))Congratulations! -
