  1. Right .Um ,I'm sure this is simplistic but I can't help thinking this "Commuter" car tries to park outside a resident's house a) resident of Lyndhurst Grove parked there already b) resident's car absent and space available for "commuter" . No harm done ? Resident returns from work/errand - "commuter " car taking up parking space . Answer = CPZ ,resident pays money and "commuter" prevented from parking ,space remains empty . Bit of a waste . Or doesn't remain empty because Residents Parking Permits exceeds number of residents'cars . Mmm - why have a CPZ with Resident Parking ?
  2. That stretch is definitely a problem .Wouldn't double yellow lines on one side be as effective as a CPZ ?
  3. Quite agree Burbage and Borky . Suffer-not I don't think the banner idea has died a death . 4 days ago a local councillor was agreeing with the OP that it was a great idea and offering to find money if it were needed to ensure that the lampposts were able to support banners .
  4. If the odd > lamppost needs replacing we'll find some other > funding to do that aspect to help Is that how it works ? Never mind what a few people think ,you and I think it's a good idea so we'll just find some funding to carry out our plans ? I think if my forecourt and the front of my house were smartened up it would enhance the community and act as a spur for others to do the same .Could you find some funding for this please ?
  5. And if James and the OP can stop slapping each other on the back for a minute they might hear that banners are not wanted . "by rigbydan February 16, 11:41AM Thanks James, sure we'll be in touch as things get moving. 6. Cleaner Greener Safer ,High Street Challenge - sorry but honestly what a lot of b*ll*cks . Not appropriate in these times . Alice has hit the nail on the head - if these funds are ring fenced /capital and not revenue/can't be moved into Social Care someone needs to look at how they can be UN ring fenced .How they can be moved . It's not good enough to just to accept the staus quo .
  7. As for the traffic - IMO it's busy because it's a road used to get from A to B ( aka a "rat run " ) in a busy metropolitan city . Cars jostling to park may increase this factor at key times but won't decrease the traffic driving from A to B .Of which there are many .All day .
  8. rahrah - I did enjoy that ,thanks . Posting lyrics for those like me who can't hear "59 Lyndhurst Grove" There's a picture by his first wife on the wall Stripped floor-boards in the kitchen and the hall A stain from last week's party on the stairs No one knows who made it or how it ever got there They were dancing with children round their legs Talking business, books and records, art and sex All things being considered you'd call it a success You wore your black dress oh-oh oh-oh... He's an architect and such a lovely guy and he'll stay with you until the day you die And he'll give you everything you could desire Oh well almost everything everything that he can buy So you sometimes go out in the afternoon Spend an hour with your lover in his bedroom hear old women rolling trolleys down the road Back to Lyndhurst Grove Lyndhurst Grove Oh.
  9. This p*sses me off .It's badly designed and was poorly consulted on when introduced .I hate to think how much the "consultation" cost . Concerns were raised at the time and ignored http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,363258,363820#msg-363820
  10. Is there anything on this thread http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1753926,1753926#msg-1753926 that might be relevant ?
  11. Thanks Ilona .So either no one is checking Trumps tweets or they are and Trump is paying no attention to advice . Incredible .
  12. Thanks Jenny .I'm a bit naive ,of course ,he's just going to change the rules to get what he wants . On a lighter note "My bosses have approved a new business card for me: Jon Sopel Another Beauty North America Editor"
  13. I'm sorry to just post stuff and not offer incisive comments .But I don't know what to say .. https://mobile.twitter.com/jfffyyhhhh/status/832315566786494465/video/1 "get out of my country" is that what Trump's heavies say ? Sorry I find that as shocking as Trump refusing to answer . edited to say that this is apparently from campaign times .Still shocked .
  14. And this https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/feb/16/how-donald-trump-became-deutsche-bank-biggest-headache article explains that when Deutsche bank tried to reclaim some of the $640m they had loaned Trump he countersued them . Claiming force majeure ,that the 2008 economic crisis was the equivalent of an Act of God .It couldn't have been anticipated so he wasn't obliged to repay his debts .And that as Deutsche bank contributed to the crisis they owed him compensation of $3bn. Can I believe this ? I know ( I think ) that financial institutions like to lend money to people who already owe millions ,that somehow owing money ,using credit is what makes billionaires .But Trump suing for compensation ,claiming an Act of God ?
  15. I've taken to reading the transcribed accounts of Trumps conferences. Here's a couple of extracts from last nights . " I'm here today to update the American people on the incredible progress that has been made in the last four weeks since my inauguration. We have made incredible progress. I don?t think there?s ever been a president elected who in this short period of time has done what we?ve done." "To be honest, I inherited a mess. It?s a mess. At home and abroad, a mess. Jobs are pouring out of the country; you see what?s going on with all of the companies leaving our country, going to Mexico and other places, low pay, low wages, mass instability overseas, no matter where you look. The middle east is a disaster. North Korea - we?ll take care of it folks; we?re going to take care of it all. I just want to let you know, I inherited a mess." "But our country will never have had a military like the military we?re about to build and rebuild. We have the greatest people on earth in our military, but they don?t have the right equipment and their equipment is old. I used it; I talked about it at every stop. Depleted, it?s depleted - it won?t be depleted for long. And I think one of the reason I?m standing here instead of other people is that frankly, I talked about we have to have a strong military. And one more thing, I have kept my promise to the American people by nominating a justice of the United States Supreme Court, Judge Neil Gorsuch, who is from my list of 20, and who will be a true defender of our laws and our Constitution, highly respected, should get the votes from the Democrats. You may not see that. But he?ll get there one way or the other. But he should get there the old-fashioned way, and he should get those votes" What does he mean about Gorsuch "getting there one way or the other " ? So Democrats won't be able to block it ?
  16. "Are you saying there is money available to remove perfectly adequate street lights and replace them with new ones that can handle a flapping banner? That's nuts. How much is a new street light? How much to lift out the old and replace with a new? How much to throw away (a perfectly good) old light? We are truly through the looking glass." Steveo - I'm with you there . And as for JB's resonse that the lamposts are re used and it's "only the marginal cost" of moving the lamp post - well ,I'm speechless .
  17. Good question jeanne . Not answered on Southwark's recycling page . Personally I put it in the green bin . I tend to look for the triangular recycling mark on stuff I'm not sure about ( like the trays that meat comes in ) and I don't see it I assume it's not recylable . Hope someone comes along with the answer .
  18. Mark ,that map can be a bit tempremental but if you're quick you might catch it as it seems ok at the moment . 16/AP/3281 | Change of use and part retention/demolition of No 201 to provide 1 x 3 bed house (Use Class C3) and demolition of No.s 203-205 and the erection of a new building comprising 8 x residential apartments (Use Class C3) and associated landscaping, cycling and refuse storage facilities | 201-205 CRYSTAL PALACE ROAD, LONDON, SE22 9EW
  19. Yes teddyboy I was a bit surprised by that welcome pack at ST Thomas's - 3 years ago now ,so I guess they're still giving them out . I didn't need one ,my admission was planned .
  20. I thought it's length rather detracted from some of the points it was making ( but I have a small brain ) .I agree completely that the Democrats are no opposition . McCain seems to be the only person standing up to Trump .And these bits chimed with me . "If Obama often seemed an image of deliberation without appetite, Trump has always been the reverse. For him, there is no time to linger: from the first thought to the first motion is a matter of seconds; the last aversion or appetite triggers the jump to the deed. And if along the way he speaks false words? Well, words are of limited consequence. What people want is a spectacle; they will attend to what you do, not what you say; and to the extent that words themselves are a spectacle, they add to the show. The great thing about words, Trump believes, is that they are disposable. " - but the people might just get catch on if it turns out there are more words than action. A lot of love is going to put a stop to bad people who comit anti semetic acts ? Crime is going to be stopped ? Method seems to be missing ? "The voters have come to understand that the big banks, along with investment companies like Goldman Sachs and transnational corporations, are sovereignties as powerful as states and in some cases more powerful. By vesting a billionaire with extraordinary power, therefore, the voters are going straight to the relevant authority and cutting out the middle man ? the politician." "Trump likes the relationship of money to power in Russia ? and specifically of financial power to government authority ? more than he admires anything special about Putin, whom he has never met and about whom he knows little. " And I loved the rhetoric of his last sentence "The entertainment of the autumn, when a would-be Caesar held us fast in our seats by mixing forbidden truths with his lies, has already glutted the heartiest appetite, but the exits are closed and we are still in the first scene of the first act." I liked Wollfe in the Guardian yesterday https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/feb/14/mike-flynn-resignation-trumps-nightmare-begun-mar-a-lago ,but that's because I'm hoping Trump will go even though I fear Pence . Though Bromwich in your link Jay gives me hope when pointing out that Trump will be in breach of the constitution regarding emoluments if his hotel is used by foreign dignatories .
  21. I've copied this because it seems to me such a ridiculous response to a question about anti semitism, almost unbelievable . Q ? ?Mr. President, since your election campaign and even after your victory, we?ve seen a sharp rise in anti-Semitic incidents across the United States. ?And I wonder what you say to those among the Jewish community in the States, and in Israel, and maybe around the world who believe and feel that your administration is playing with xenophobia and maybe racist tones. And, Mr. Prime Minister, do you agree to what the President just said about the need for Israel to restrain or to stop settlement activity in the West Bank? ?And a quick follow-up on my friend?s questions -- simple question: ?Do you back off from your vision to the end of the conflict of two-state solution as you laid out in Bar-Ilan speech, or you still support it? ?Thank you. PRESIDENT TRUMP: ?Well, I just want to say that we are very honored by the victory that we had -- 306 Electoral College votes. ?We were not supposed to crack 220. ?You know that, right? ?There was no way to 221, but then they said there?s no way to 270. ?And there?s tremendous enthusiasm out there. ? I will say that we are going to have peace in this country. ?We are going to stop crime in this country. ?We are going to do everything within our power to stop long-simmering racism and every other thing that?s going on, because lot of bad things have been taking place over a long period of time. ? I think one of the reasons I won the election is we have a very, very divided nation. ?Very divided. ?And, hopefully, I?ll be able to do something about that. ?And, you know, it was something that was very important to me. As far as people -- Jewish people -- so many friends, a daughter who happens to be here right now, a son-in-law, and three beautiful grandchildren. ?I think that you?re going to see a lot different United States of America over the next three, four, or eight years. ?I think a lot of good things are happening, and you?re going to see a lot of love. ?You?re going to see a lot of love. ?Okay? ?Thank you read more: http://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/1.771992
  22. I don't think that you should intepret comments about a particular element ( say lamp post banners ) as meaning that the poster thinks that this is the sole focus of the iniative .
  23. Personally I would plead for no more street clutter ,no lamp post banners . No one notices them after a few months .( I can't remember whether the Rye Lane street banners are still there ,anyone else ? ) and they quickly look faded ,tatty ,sad .
  24. I'm not sure I'm actually contributing anything Jenny ,just raising questions and hoping for reality checks . I've not read this properly but lots about investigating the whole links with Russia thing and how any Flynn investigation would just be a part of that . https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/02/michael-flynn-resignation-congress-investigation/516633/?utm_source=atltw
  25. Trump and Russia - I have zero idea of the legitimacy of any of these claims but they sound believable to me . http://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/1/9/1618540/-Was-Donald-Trump-bailed-out-of-bankruptcy-by-Russia-crime-bosses http://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/2/14/1633577/-Manafort-Page-Flynn-Trump-Russia-is-the-one-story-that-can-bring-them-all-down and I know nothing about The Daily Kos https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daily_Kos
