  1. https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/akita/ "not recommended with other dogs" "Akitas are quiet, fastidious dogs. Wary of strangers and often intolerant of other animals, Akitas will gladly share their silly, affectionate side with family and friends. They thrive on human companionship. The large, independent-thinking Akita is hardwired for protecting those they love. They must be well socialized from birth with people and other dogs."
  2. any idea why ? I'm motivated more by an interest in why part of the road was closed than a desire to be 100% geographically accurate about the location of the closure .
  3. Oh no ,that's awful .I know people who have watched the progress of this family ,and earlier families .They are going to be heartbroken. What was the dog owner's reaction ? An offer to pay vet bills for the damage caused I hope . Is there any update ?Did the gosling escape ?
  4. I think barging in/surprising people is rarely a good tactic . Could you write them a letter ?Maybe talk through the contents with someone you trust first ? As others have said ,don't give up hope .14 is still very young ,and an emotional age .There are years ahead to rebuild and have a relationship .
  5. Nigello - hawk seen with blackbird 4.30pm today .In front garden Barry Rd ,nos 163 or thereabouts .
  6. I'm glad the police came quickly and that it seems to being dealt with . It must have been traumatising to see ,hope you're getting over it .
  7. "Perhaps they should appoint the guys at @SaveOaks to oversee the project and take a share of any savings they identify and make for the council!" what an excellent idea !
  8. Admin are you referring to Metallic's post at 5.18pm ? If so I'm not following your point ,could you explain ?
  9. tomskip -pruning often results in reinvigorated growth .Though if it's privet and hacked ,that might not be the case.
  10. Southwark used to cut back overhanging shrubbery and then charge the occupier .But I've seen no evidence of that procedure for years . I doubt the council are responsible for your situation ,they wouldn't leave it on the pavement .
  11. Specifically the one near Mountacre Close just south of The Woodhouse pub ,driving from East Dulwich to Crystal Palace . Caught a relative exceeding 20mph twice in same day .Make us feel better by recounting similar .Seems odd really as often drive that way and never a problem .
  12. Have you asked Mrs Buzzard if she can shed any light ?
  13. I wonder if the engine really does have to be left running ? I can't see why the driver would lie but on the other hand ,it seems many don't require this . And is Dulwich Village really in East Dulwich ? Should this be in the lounge ?
  14. I agree TheCat ,i may seem perverse but actually I'm less interested in the name and want to know their role .And it's not always easy to be craning one's neck to get the name badge into the part of my varifocal that's going to enable me to read it .And it's taken me a while to remember that if someone in a hospital is in casual clothes and is called Mr Smith it's not because he's an administrator or pharmaceutical rep but a surgeon .
  15. ed - overdevelopment is a concept that planning authorities use and Southwark rejected this application on the grounds that it's massing and height was out of scale with neighboroughing properties . "The proposed development would disrupt the established urban pattern of development and relate poorly to the host building and the adjacent cinema building, being of a massing and height that overwhelms the prevailing scale of the local context." https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=QVIPI3KBGSO00
  16. I had the same feeling of interest - the windows left open on the old mini cab office .Very Marie Celeste.
  17. whereabouts?
  18. Heartblock hope all ok if you decided to travel.
  19. Are you from New Zealand legal ? "Number 8 wire is a 0.16-inch-diameter (4.064 mm) gauge of wire on the British Standard Wire Gauge that has entered into the cultural lexicon of New Zealand." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_8_wire
  20. May seem trivial but even with light winds they roll around in Barry Road banging into parked cars ,because of the slight hill I suppose . I've tried to corral mine and put a virtually empty one flat on it's side .I can't get them round to the back of the property ,access too narrow .Other ideas ?
  21. My vote would be no .It seems ok at the moment and people might be tempted to think the warnings are an over reaction ,but transport and roads will be affected by preemptive measures if nothing else .
  22. Gosh ,sparrowhawks ,corn snakes ,David Attenborough where are you ?
  23. I don't own a dog but I am aware of talk of a gastro bug doing the rounds .There were reports of a nos of cases near a NE seaside and now of cases inland . https://www.bva.co.uk/news-and-blog/news-article/mystery-dog-vomiting-bug-cases-prompt-veterinary-advice/ Whether it's "just" a seasonal thing like norovirus in humans I can't say .Sorry ,no help ,I know .But I do think if it's on my radar as a non dog owner that maybe there is more of it than normal .
  24. "If I have any questions about their qualifications or their role, I ask questions and if I don't get the answer I want, I ask to see a doctor there and then" my writing style is v long winded ,apologies I would rather a HP told me their role ,I'm prob.old fashioned ,but I feel rude asking . I don't subscribe to a strategy of asking another person a question if I don't like the answer from the first person I asked . As for asking to see a doctor there and then - you'd expect a doctor to stop what they're doing ( seeing a patient ? ) and immediately come and deal with your queries . And how would that work on a telephone consultation ?
