Grout and silicone repair needed ? please help!
intexasatthe moment replied to Slinkissimo's topic in The Lounge
I think tradespeople, who tend to know more about what they are doing than the person who requires their work ,can get a bit irked by the "job shouldn't take long " comments that are made . I don't mean that to be a particular dig at you Slinkissimo,it's just a little bug bear of mine . -

The more you read the more horrific this becomes . Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/aug/19/what-lessons-should-the-west-learn-from-the-defeat-in-afghanistan David Vine: This was a corrupt war to its core Since it invaded Afghanistan, the US has fueled corruption in Afghanistan through CIA and military deliveries of bags of cash to Afghan power brokers and a system of bribes to ensure US troops remained fed and supplied. Absurdly, the US government has spent billions paying the Taliban not to attack convoys supplying troops sent to fight the Taliban. The vast majority of the $2.3tn the US government has spent or obligated for the war has gone not to Afghans ? corrupt or otherwise ? but to US military contractors (and those who bought US debt): a reported 80?90% of US outlays ended up back in the US as a ?massive wealth transfer? from taxpayers to firms in the military industrial complex, which have seen their profits and stock prices skyrocket. Beyond President Eisenhower?s worst nightmares, the military industrial complex has become defined by spiraling expenditures, fraud, and contracts lacking incentives to control costs. To keep the funding flow?ing, contractors have paid Washington DC lobbyists millions and made millions more in campaign contributions to Congress members who have inflated military budgets beyond cold war highs. The military industrial complex has become a system of largely legalized corruption revolving around entrenched incentives to wage endless war for financial and political gain. If we don?t end this system and the corrupting belief that war is a legitimate and useful policy tool, the United States will keep fighting endless wars. David Vine is Professor of Anthropology at American University in Washington, DC. Vine is the director of the American University Public Anthropology Clinic and a board member of Brown University?s Costs of War Project.

Flooded roads -drainage issue?
intexasatthe moment replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Lounge
It was a lot of rain in a short period but I swear I've seen that amount in the past .Without the resultant flooding . But maybe I'm wrong! -
I know we had heavy rain yesterday but I'm surprised by the flooding .Perhaps the rain was significantly heavier in Eg Camberwell and Battersea than we had in ED ? I'm wondering if drains were blocked ,possibly the recent dry spell meant a build up of debris that regular rain would flush down ,and if this was a factor . I feel sure ( often wrong when I feel like that ! ) we've had similar downpours in the past which haven't resulted in this degree of flooding . What do others think ? Oh ,and I understand about the heat meeting the cooler air and climate change .

Petition: re-open Rye Lane to buses

"Most people who live and work in an area know more then highway engineers who possibly commute in from outside the borough." Attending a consultation /? pre consultation meeting at Dulwich library a couple of years ago I was shocked at the presentation of A4 sheets depicting maps of the area with no attempt to combine them to give an overview of the whole area under discussion . But even more shocked that the individuals running the session had no knowledge of the local area so it was impossible to have a discussion involving street names ,it was back to rifling through a sheaf of A4 papers . I'm getting so old and pedantic ! -
Johnson standing by him .Is this because if he went there's a danger that Johnson would have to lift a finger and do some work? Or does Johnson not want to look like a hypocrite and has negotiated that Hancock resigns of his own volition ?

Mmm,and Handcock made a big point of expressing horror and being speechless when Fergusson was caught calling on his girlfriend during the lockdown .

I think I'd be sending that update to his GP surgery . -
Are GPs overworked or not interested?
intexasatthe moment replied to Pugwash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That sounds so frustrating Pugwash .I'm so sorry . I think you should speak to the practice manager ( if that's what they are called and there is one ) and if nothing is resolved make a complaint ,the GP in question sounds very unhelpful and inflexible . Individual GPs vary so much in in how they interact with patients .Would it be possible to avoid this particular one in future ,is there an alternative one at the practice ? Failing that I would urge your relative to change surgeries . -
