  2. > I could hear it above in the sky. Clouds do reflect sound.
  3. Yes I heard it, when in near-sleep state. It went on for longer than an overflight or train would, and didn't sound like a helicopter. About a couple of weeks ago, at about the same time of day, I heard a fairly regular clanking sound. It sounded so like someone trying to break in somewhere that I actually got up and dressed and had a walk around. I eventually found a small fleet of rail maintenance vans parked outside ED station, so assumed it was them. I've since seen some spare rails on the track within the station, so obviously there's some long term maintanance work taking place. Might last night's have been part of it?

  5. The output as pdf only will likely be due to the way a human has configured the associated software, perhaps for simplicity or standardisation. Most standard formats should be available from most scanner software. For DIY, you could certainly also try a camera, using the finest image ratings. Something in the 3000x2000 area will obviously give you a decent dpi count. Best use natural light and get all images, even of b/w photographs, in full colour; and save in the first instance in an uncompressed format if available, rather than in a compressed one. There are also free image viewing/editing programs available, such as Irfanview and Xnview, that let you do post-transfer tweaking.
  6. Here's the card. He's not among the current favourites. http://www.turf-pronostics.com/pronostic/courses-hippiques.php?no_reunion=5262&numreunion=1&jourreunion=11-10-2013&nom_hippo=CHANTILLY&numerocourse=04&nbre1=4 What's the way of wishing good luck? Break a leg's the only thing that comes to mind, but I've a feeling that's not the right one.

Time to reset the server clock? It's been way behind actual time for a while now -- currently by thirteen and a half minutes. Do you not do a regular (auto-)sync with a time server? Any possibility that the CMOS cell is running a bit low and needs replacing?
  9. > but how are you expected to see a car overtaking a bus at the lights until it's right on top of you? > Stop and peer cautiously around the bus while half way across the road? If you want to check, that's the way to do it. And if you don't check, you run the risk of contributing to an accident.

  12. There was mention of "the snowman with a willy on it in the [?Peckham Rye] park" in the http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,589716 thread, but no photo therein. There's also this, posted in December 2011, but it's without provenance: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,808751,808751.

  15. I've read of Lidl agreeing to or arranging cancellation of the charge on submission of evidence that you were shopping there. Here's one instance that appears to have been successful: "I've just spoken to Lidl customer services by phone, who told me to email Athena with a redacted scan of my bank statement showing Lidl transactions and claimed that they would drop the charge immediately, as Lidl are not in the habit of penalising loyal customers, even if they don't have a receipt for the date of the "offence"." http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=83429 One posting I read even mentioned giving your car number to the Lidl check-out person at the time of shopping, for them to enter in their system there and then to prevent any action. I walk or cycle there, so haven't checked how accurate that advice is. I had a look at the sign this afternoon, by the way. One and a half hours free, and any profits go to an appointed charity, which I take to mean that Lidl don't make any money out of it, and are doing it just to protect their business -- all day free parking for anyone on their land would presumably result in less business for them.
  16. The planning application 11/AP/0024 granted for 18-22 Grove Vale on 30 March 2012 was for: "Redevelopment of existing garden centre to provide a 4 storey building comprising basement storage and plant areas; ground floor Class A1 retail unit and D1 community (shown as library) unit; with 20 residential units (5 x 1 bed, 11 x 2 bed and 4 x 3 bed flats) on the first, second and third floors together with associated parking, amenity, landscaping, waste and cycle storage." There have been subsequent applications: one (12/AP/3023) containing minor amendments, the other (13/AP/0830) seeking an extension of a 'Relevant Period' from 18 to 21 months. These were granted; the latter on 19 March 2013, "for app types VLA & VNMC", whatever that conveys. So it seems to be still trundling along. Mind you, the previous 2008 application was eventually deemed withdrawn because of lack of action, so who's to know what will eventually result. The 11/AP/0024 permission was valid for three years. Presumably Morrisons are candidates for the "retail unit". There should be details of the size and location of the unit within the papers. A search on "18-22 Grove Vale" at http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.pgesearch should bring up all the applications. The Morrisons Licensing Act application is at http://app.southwark.gov.uk/licensing/LicPremisesAppliedDetails.asp?systemkey=842682. From the Southwark guide to applications it appears that one can be made by "any person who carries on, or proposes to carry on, a business which involves the use of the premises for one or more of the licensable activities ...", so it perhaps doesn't follow that any plans are definite.
  17. I don't know why this went from the main section to the Lounge, and in ?under three hours. Is it perhaps deemed extraterritorial?

  21. Latest: 20:00h ED Departures http://www.southernrailway.com/your-journey/plan-your-journey/live-running-information/EDW/departures/ look fairly normal. and the disruption report, following someone's being hit by a train at Denmark Hill, has been removed from http://www.southernrailway.com/your-journey/plan-your-journey/live-running-information/ .

  23. These advertisements are, like estate agents' signs, deemed to have consent, subject to specific conditions, including: CLASS 3F - Adverts for Fairs & Circuses:- * The Local Authority must be informed of the sites for the adverts 14 days before the notices are posted. * The adverts may only be displayed up to 14 days in advance and must be removed within 7 days after the event. * The notice or sign must not exceed 0.6 of a square metre. [copied from http://www.planning-applications.co.uk/advert2.htm] The full regulations, The Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007, SI 2007/783, are at http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2007/783/contents/made. See Part 2 and Schedule 3. I don't think any of the subsequent amendments affect this class.
  24. The minutes of the Licensing Sub-committee meeting of 30 May are at last available, at http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgAi.aspx?ID=28894. On Item 5, the Co-op application, we have: "The licensing officer advised that this application had been withdrawn by the applicant."
