El Pibe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > embed, link, whatever. But you were encouraging embedding, as did Admin in the "How to upload and embed a photo:Guide" sticky thread, and its use has been building up since then. Properly it's perhaps in that thread that I should really be querying the practice. I've nothing against the use of an external image repository to lighten the forum server load; probably a good idea, if Flickr or whoever can tolerate it and it can be managed if necessary. > Given the recent spat on the CGF thread, I reckon it's sensible. Is that one of the picture threads? I tend to avoid them if I remember them. > Plus moderators can always edit the worst offenders Do they really want the work and worry? > This forum really does sap one's will to live sometimes, with it's wellspring of negativity. I do sometimes find avoiding reading the forum at all quite therapeutic, for a number of reasons, but I'll keep quiet rather than risk being accused of negativity, and stick to the current straw. I just don't see why, in most cases, the polite and helpful provision of a link, such as Dispproving baby photo, isn't preferable to having my screen gratuitously filled with whatever someone thinks I should be viewing, and having my reading of a thread made correpondingly less easy.

:-) > click on the share button of the photo and copy the code in the Grab the > HTML/BBCode box (you can set the size and everything) [post-smiley ed:] and then a moderator has to waste five minutes to come along and change it to something more reasonable. Do you really want to encourage the embedding of photographs within threads? It's a pain to consume, and an encouragement to nuisance hot-linking. [Afterthought 8/11] Isn't this, in proposed form, a non-starter anyway? The Flickr account seems inaccessible to me, presumably because the Flickr username is associated with a single (El Pibe's) Yahoo account. Would Flickr even countenance the creation of an account meant to be accessible by anyone? Even if they did, wouldn't it then be liable to attacks by trollers, spammers, pirates, vandals, porn merchants, the bored, ..., for all of which the nominal account holder would be liable to be held responsible.

Here's a 2007 Usenet uk.transport.london post that includes a letter from TfL about Volvo B7TL buses - which I think includes the 176: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/uk.transport.london/YrEmfvSNzCA

Re cyclehoops: I emailed the council in September 2010, after seeing the mentions in this thread, to ask how I could distinguish them on the interactive map. After a reminder, I got a reply in November 2010, from which: We do indeed have some trial sites for this particular type of cycle parking. A couple of sites that I am aware of are Union Street by the Palestra building and Cathedral Street by Borough Market. I believe that the interactive map has been removed from the website pending an up to date audit of cycle parking across the borough. I'm also aware that these stands have not proved to be very popular with our engineers and our Streetscape Design Manager and so will most probably not be used within the Borough in the future. Please contact me should you require any further details.

Thanks very much for (1) your asking the council clearly (2) their quick response (3) relaying it here. Now we're all better informed. That's the way to do it. I see btw that the Lambeth Bikehangars are a different animal from the cycle hoops, of which ISTR Southwark trialled a few several years ago.

If you are in position to usefully guess, make good use of surveys of PIN choices. In particular, try using the holder's birthdate or other significant date information that's available to you. http://www.lightbluetouchpaper.org/2012/02/20/how-hard-are-pins-to-guess/

Bid to introduce London?s blanket restriction on nightclub booze sales

It appears to be a Lambeth council matter: http://lambethnews.wordpress.com/2013/10/25/bid-to-introduce-londons-first-blanket-restriction-on-nightclub-booze-sales/ Lambeth Council will be consulting on an Early Morning Alcohol Restriction Order (EMRO) for the corner of Wandsworth Road and North Street, Clapham. It will affect four currently licensed venues and proposes midnight as the terminal serving hour for alcohol seven days a week. -
I know that quotation is from a police web site, but the actual Act is a more reliable source. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/section/170

> also word woarnign the text number on bus stops is charged at multimedia rate by orange/ee cpst ?1.50 a text. The SMS text charge is said to be "12 pence per text over your standard network rate" according to http://www.tfl.gov.uk/termsandconditions/20914.aspx. It is just a text message, isn't it? The only other thing I can think of is the free web service, which costs whatever you have to pay for data downloads.

The above extract seems to be from "East Dulwich priorities and promises", downloadable from the ED SNT page http://content.met.police.uk/Team/Southwark/EastDulwich, original date March 2011, last updated March 2013. -

Anyone else had anything like this What were the exact words on the PCN of the alleged contravention? Would you like to append a copy of the photograph to a post here? It could be edited to paint over number plates or faces?

There's a French media channel, Equidia, that provides live coverage of races via several routes, including Equidia Live Direct web TV. Unfortunately they don't seem to be willing to provide their web stream to UK subscribers. http://www.equidia.fr/L-Univers-Equidia/Equidia-Live-Equidia-Life/Comment-recevoir-Equidia-Live-et-Equidia-Life They do also have a large multiply-indexed archive of videos of races that looks accessible and cheap. Here's Silver Treasure's last appearance, for example: http://www.equidiavideo.fr/Courses/GRAND-VIVIER.

Trains can't run on obstructed lines, of which there have been dozens across the country, nor traffic on blocked roads, but apart from that, things are happening. > We can't use the argument, as we do with the snow, that our country isn't prepared for it I don't think anyone is using that argument. Let's see how many of the blockages remain this afternoon or evening. I see the ED rail service, at least the West Croydon branch, is getting back into operation now. http://www.southernrailway.com/your-journey/plan-your-journey/live-running-information/EDW/departures/ -

No Southern trains tomorrow morning 28/10
ianr replied to Bic Basher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It looks as if they're being phased back in now. First one on ED Live Departures page with a firm departure time is the 10:51 to London Bridge. http://www.southernrailway.com/your-journey/plan-your-journey/live-running-information/EDW/departures/ But still no Beckenham Junction branch? -

xcweather reported 45mph, gusting to 66mph, at London City Airport for the half hour to 06:50. No idea if there are any more bits of the tail to pass through in the next hour or so, but they have it a lot quieter at 09:00. It looks to me as if the forecasters and National Rail got it just about right: several surface sections of the underground are reported halted because of fallen trees. -

The Met Office has been and still is predicting gusting to at least 52mph for the area around 6am. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/london_forecast_weather.html Not nearly as bad as the 70-80mph mentioned, but still capable of damage, and for all we know still liable to change. And possibly accompanied by a lot of water (though judging from the icons they may currently be forecasting less of it, in rate and duration, than previously) A very recent post from a special interest forum: "Ok here we go.. Hurst Castle now gusting G64Kt .. 74mph.. Winds veered SW & increased here in Brighton now.. !" http://www.ukweatherworld.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/100054-monday-28-october-2013-potential-storm-chat/page__st__400 See also http://www.xcweather.co.uk/. -

The regulations specifying the standards legally required of an independent school such as an academy appear to be The Education (Independent School Standards) (England) Regulations 2010 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2010/1997/made. See paragraph 25 of Schedule 1 to those regulations for "Manner in which complaints are to be handled", and paragraph 2(3) in the Interpretation section about what "making available" of a document means. (To cross the t's, there are some minor 2012 amendments to the regs at http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2012/2962/made). The proprietor of the school is the governing body.
