  1. > I cant really see how being an extra foot higher would dramatically affect the air quality Those nasty black fumes seem to be heavier than air.
  2. The Cheese Block fascia says established in 1991.
  3. My memory tells me that the regeneration started in the early 1980s. Many of the pioneers - such as Tiger Lily in Grove Vale - are no lomger with us. It certainly was not William Rose.
  4. Who remembers the Rose Garden? I bet the boys' school won't have one.
  5. A tip from the 1940s. A large carboard box is better than a cot.
  6. What are the nasty black exhaust fumes that come out of buses and trucks at baby-face-level?
  7. The alleged offence is driving across the pavement to access private property.
  8. Goodbye dropped kerbs and front garden parking then.
  9. Standards improving? That's good. Time for the middle classes to take over.
  10. The last time I push-chaired the streets of East Dulwich was in the 1950s. I've never attempted a 21st century designer buggy. Then there were very few motor vehicles, and exhaust fumes in the baby's face was not a consideration. I'm just surprised that none of the mums with buggies are concerned now.
  11. Are the Southwark Council Christmas decorations light pollution?
  12. Just a little puzzle. The new mums in East Dulwich seem to be affluent enough to buy designer buggies. If affluent, why buy a buggy which places the child at the level of nasty motor vehicle exhaust fumes, rather than a pram which would lessen the pollution the child breathes in? Status symbol more important than child health?
  13. I look forward to "The East Dulwich New Year Blues".
  14. Yes, it's their part of the pavement. I believe they could have built a two metre high brick wall without planning permission. Lordship Lane would be interesting if all the shops reclaimed their parts of the pavements.
  15. snorky opening a ### franchise on Lordship Lane? Pull the other one.
  16. catgirl drives snorky away? a bad day for the edf
  17. Here's another helpful tip if you get a bartender job in a bar like The Castle. Bartender tips here do not work the same way as they do in Ohio. It's a little more subtle than a bowl or glass on the bar where the customers put their tips. So if you are working at The Castle and a customer says something like "Have one on me" this means the customer does not want any change from their ?20 bill - the change is your tip.
  18. The financial status of the firm is more interesting than how to cook burgers. > Over the past year chief exec Paul Campbell has sold ?3m worth of shares (his remaining stake is now valued at ?113k), while chairman David Page has off-loaded ?2.6m of his stake (current holding: ?1.1m), and finance boss Nick Wong is ?35,000 richer after cashing in a few of his chips (current holding: ?13k).
  19. No need to worry about the minimum wage in East Dulwich. It's now an affluent area and the Lordship Lane bars pay around twice the minimum wage (cUS$23 p/h). No need for a work permit either: you get a job and then visit the Department of Work and Pensions office at Peckham. You tell them where you have started work and ask for a National Insurance Number.
  20. Not doing so well?
  21. These changes might impact on East Dulwich Christmas 2007.
  22. A further thought on the Canadian flag patch. If you intend to frequent the Lordship Lane area it would be better to buy a patch that has "CANADA" written under the flag.
  23. US$320 should see you straight for a round of drinks at the Crystal Palace Tavern.
  24. The best place to get couched is the Crystal Palace Tavern. But the earlier advice is incorrect. You need to buy the first round when you arrive and the last round before you leave as well as your regular rounds.
  25. Good idea. Local geese for Christmas 2008.
