  1. Rules are rules and they are there for a reason. If the rules need to be changed, there is a process for that. Some traffic wardens could be considered to be jobsworths - eg hanging around outside schools and running to ticket parents dropping off for a few seconds (literally, I've witnessed it) but overall it's required to control the roads - parking included.
  2. Bubble tea is not healthy, it's basically syrup and tapioca, but each to their own. Happy about Screwfix. Bit of healthy competition and a step up from a new pizza place
  3. it's either one or two dogs on lots of walks or lots of people who are literally foul mannered
  4. I'm still not in receipt of my parcel - been to Highshore Road and now it's lost. It takes around an hour to get through on the phone number and the on hold music is diabolical.
  5. Headnun - it's hardly just Hamas though is it.
  6. I like your shopping style, Pugwash. I do the same, but don’t drive, so just get what I can carry and go to different shops. We sometimes do a huge shop to stock up and get a cab, but not needed very often. Lidl is cheap but bad with using non recyclable packaging. It does stop me buying things, as does animal welfare if I buy meat. I’d rather buy something else. We also cook rather than ready meals. It doesn’t take long and it means you have decent meals in the freezer. You can freeze rice too ( better than packet rice). Our rubbish is very small, we recycle nearly everything and have very low waste, and eat well and cheaply, and I work full time, with kids. it’s just easier than some people suggest. for instance, it takes 15mins to make a tray of chocolate brownies or a cake, and much cheaper than the shops.
  7. Yes, it must have done. It’s really nice there and dog friendly. Worth a visit
  8. It's pretty scandalous that there is an empty building which could be made good and used.
  9. Yes, understand. However you can still buy produce that is not plastic wrapped
  10. no, not the North St market - that's just silly. There is a fruit and veg shop further up but ED is far more expensive than Peckham/ Brixton/ HH for the same stuff. Coop and M&S also do non packaged fruit & veg at decent prices.
  11. That's a shame. I do hear of parcels being delivered to the wrong address frequently, as well as parcels being stolen. It's worth reporting any thefts to the police. It seems that safe receipt of the goods isn't a high priority. You can get Amazon delivered to lots of pick up places, maybe that's the safest option?
  12. That is exactly the problem. It's too convenient to buy the plastic wrapped poor quality stuff, so the supermarkets will keep selling it. It's a real battle when consumers have the power to make positive changes, but not if it's inconvenient. There are stalls in East D, Peckham, Brixton and Herne Hill that sell fresh fruit and veg, not wrapped in plastic. You don't have to look far at all. The argument for being too busy is not convincing. It's really just an excuse.
  13. I would suggest to use other suppliers and not amazon. They might be convenient but really, so many reasons to use local suppliers instead
  14. Nice work Tony - the world needs more people like you
  15. why would you buy fruit in plastic anyway? If everyone were to make good choices when shopping, the supermarkets would have to respond. ie if no one buys individually wrapped cucumbers, the shops will stop stocking them.
  16. please contact your local councillor. we have and they are doing a news article about it
  17. Report it to the police. It's happening all over. Best bet is to get everything recorded signed for rather than post. or arrange to collect it from somewhere
  18. Hallowe'en is always on the same date each year. we always put out pumpkins or pictures in our windows to welcome the little ones
  19. it's not every day though is it. It's a relatively quiet area, but yes if you scale it up it could well be that every house in ED has a party that could mean several every day over the entire year. yes - they could let neighbours know - why not ask them to do so next time they have a party. It would be a bit more proactive.
  20. And for all the other days of the year, you get to sleep but for one night a year you don’t. let people have fun.
  21. Thames Water are beyond awful. So much money paid in dividends, so much debt, so little investment.
  22. Maybe with all the revelations about their shocking debt and equal payments to shareholders, that they are having to be seen to do something? Or do they just do superficial recurring fixes?
  23. Sounds like a party. Good - it’s what life’s about
  24. Just buy biodegradable or compostable dog poo bags, most are just plastic which will go into landfill and stay plastic for many many years to come.
