Hate Crime - ED Grove - last night 10pm
Jules-and-Boo replied to Jules-and-Boo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
yes we're asking about cctv from neighbours. I know they're not likely to read this and there is very little the police can do other than add to the statistics - I do think we need to know that there are threats on our roads. This was literally between the bus stop and our home and there was no one around at all - no traffic. I suppose the message for the forum is to be extra vigilant at all times. Having a chat with my husband isn't actually a threat, but he would like to have a conversation. -
To the total POS who blocked my young teen on their way home and refused to let them pass while challenging them about their gender identity. Why the hell do you think it is your business how they identify and how dare you ask why they've "got tits". My husband would like to talk to you so please get in touch. More than that, you threatened to "slap" them even after they told you they are a minor. Described as tall, big, black and wearing a hoodie. Pity, as I would like to find you but that's not really a helpful description. We will be looking out for you though.

There are complexities - and I think this is where the lawyers are disagreeing. You say you wouldn't got to Small Claims - what would you do? I cam pursue a court order to cover my costs of getting the work done - and win or lose I know where I am. If I win I can then claim for damages - seems sensible and we are at an impasse. SC seem to be more tolerant of people representing themselves. -
conflicting advice from lawyers re liability for damages

Thanks KK. That's a good idea. Do you have to raise all related issues in one claim? I have never applied to one so don't know very much - would they want a lower level of detail? otherwise I'll need a solicitor to plough through the documents (which is where I am now) or can I just present what I have and we work through it? -
conflicting advice from lawyers re liability for damages
Jules-and-Boo replied to Jules-and-Boo's topic in The Lounge
That's logical, yes - looking at it again, it appears one of them has missed some clear details.. So, either one's not up to speed, or the other's pulling a fast one. And what do I do about paying the one that's wrong? -
I am (nearly) at my wits end. I have a problem with the ground levels around my flat being high and coupled with badly placed low air vents, there has been an outbreak of damp, which I have had treated and repaired. My lease states that the external structure and void below floor joists is freeholders responsibility) I had one lawyer state that this is the freeholders responsibility and quoted me an extortionate price for pursuing a claim through the court. So, I went to a different lawyer to see if there was a cheaper solution and if they could do mediation instead. The problem is that they have said that there is no repair required to the walls and that the ground level and correction of air vents is my responsibility. So - what do I do? I can't really get a third opinion? I'm thinking of telling each that their advice is different to other advice, but they charge just to read/ absorb/ reply. One of them is right - I want it to be the first one - and then I want a lawyer who will mediate. Any suggestions, please?

Dog locked outside on East Dulwich Grove
Jules-and-Boo replied to Jules-and-Boo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The dog went in shortly after I posted this last night and I've not heard any barking his evening, so maybe they go the message.. Hope so. -
it's going to be different this year, as my nan passed away - and we would always have all the family in one place. Sadly can't see that ever happening again, so time to set some new ones. Presents/ dinner which is always nice with my sis and her hubby, my parents and family friends. Would like to be able to take the dog, but everyone has cats so she'll have to stay home with someone. I just want Christmas with everyone together as it's one of two times a year we do that. The other is my sister's birthday - she always has a massive garden party in August. you need something to make sure you all catch up. It's important. And I could do without the commercialisation of it all. We were in town today and the crowds in Oxford St were just awful. Heaving. It's not about that. Presents can be anything, they can be something small that you make - it is the thought that counts. I've asked for a new cheese grater, a screwdriver and a new pair of slippers. Would be really happy to get any of those, as I never get round to buying them when I'm out.....

Do you really think the votes were for labour/conservaitve? and not brexit/remain?

so one sided. Can you not think of anything that the Tories have done that has caused damage? or perhaps we should just love Boris as he's a scallywag? Here's some, in case you've forgotten (or just want to mislead people by pretending they haven't done anything bad) 1. Failed to deliver 200,000 starter homes to be sold at 20% discount (non built) 2. Mislead people about universal Credit and were found in breach by Advertising Standards Authority (42 times) 3. Failed in investigate Islmophobia in their own party 4. Cut police numbers by 20,000 5. Removed Bereavement Support for cohabiting couples (including those with children) 6. Universal Credit - if you need that explaining, well then you're on a different planet 7. Increased age for State Pension 8. Benefit restrictions on families with two or more children. With ONE MILLION children below the breadline already... 9. Introduced fees for Employment tribunals (70% drop in cases against unfair dismissal etc) 10. University tuition fees rose from ?3,000 to ?9,000 - and raised again when the cap was lifted 11. Failed to invest in Public Health, with 130,000 avoidable deaths as a result of funding cuts 12. Made rape victims prove their ordeal 13. Scrapped nurses bursaries/ grants of ?6k per year leading to a recruitment crisis 14. Tried to bring back fox hunting 15. Passed the Trade Union Act 16. Cut inheritance tax for the rich 17. Cut school funding, with 80% of schools worse off - closing early, reducing classes and losing staff 18 Introduced the Benefits Cap - and the social cleansing that came with it 19 Implemented the Bedroom Tax that's enough for now.

we have both paving and soil and it works well. but then in our street the bins stay on the pavements
-
and that poses the biggest risk to the whole country, as it actually makes Boris look less dangerous than he is

If we get a Hung Parliament, expect stalemate and nothing but continuation of recent years. Worst case scenario? If Boris wins, we've got Brexit at end of Jan (6 weeks?) so that will be fun. Corbyn will have to step down and Labour re-evaluate...could be interesting. And deals with US re NHS supplies (don't believe the lies that this won't happen) If Labour wins expect higher spend/ investment = higher taxes and a promise to the end of austerity. As well as a second referendum and renationalisation of services.
-
There are so many factors, it's difficult to be balanced. Yes, immigration has undoubtedly out a strain on infrastructure - however there is a contribution from tax these people pay. The NHS does not recover as much as it could to cover additional costs of short term visitors, but other facts - including increased costs are making the NHS unstable. Accusing someone of being racist for stating fact is hardly helping. It would be better to point out the gaps in their arguments (eg that many migrants work and contribute). Investment is required for public services - schools, police, roads, NHS. Where will this money come from? If you increase tax on the rich, they will be incentivised to leave. If that happens, there is less money, so something a little more clever is required. What about ensuring companies pay the tax they should, or that foreign investors into housing have to contribute (it's a great deal for them with weak pound etc - which actually increases prices of the stock), or better yet, we invest in growth, property, development... Whether you like Boris or Jeremy, you have to think further ahead - and take other people's views into account - you may develop a wider understanding.
-
I agree that Corbyn is bringing the labour party down that Boris has taken dishonesty to a new level; it is hard to think ahead, but none of the parties manifestos will be achieved in the next few years, but a lot of damage can be done. So, please think further ahead than Jeremy or Boris.
-
it's labour intensive but shouldnt' be that much. Although it depends on the state of your garden. Get agreement for complete work, rather than "pay by day" as you can guess which would take longer
