Ideas please! Birthday day out for a 5 year old
curlykaren replied to crystal7's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Medieval Banquet do an earlier dinner/show on a Sunday which I took my son to last month for his fifth birthday. We all dressed up (the adults hired costumes there) and the food was pretty good. Only you know how late your two year old can tolerate to be awake without getting cranky though so it might not suit? Or, NAMCO on the Southbank for bowling and games and it's next to the Aquarium and London Eye with loads of different restaurants beside the river. Or a show and lunch/dinner. There are lots of kiddies theatre companies so you should find something. Have fun x -
Tablet: Help needed to open email attachments
curlykaren replied to Alan Medic's topic in The Lounge
I have the same problem/tablet, some PDFs do not open and I am not promted to make a choice on how to open just a very quick message pops up ' attachment failed to open' by no means is it everything I am sent though. I have come to believe it is to do with the version/programme being used by the sender. Try accessing email via website rather than using app. If anyone has indepth knowledge of these tablets please make yourself known... I also have questions!! x -
Has anyone thought about a house swap?
curlykaren replied to Mellors's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes there are websites, there is a membership fee but then you know the other people are also invested in the exchange working as they have also paid to join. From memory there is some kind of insurance deal as well. I haven't joined one yet but plan to so will watch this thread with interest. Recommendations for agencies/sites would be good! -
WTD: recommendation for a CBT for adult anxiety ....
curlykaren replied to Cora's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Mindfulness, John Kabat Zinn. You can find his stuff on youtube. Very useful in anxious moments. Southwark runs workshops but not sure if you can be referred direct from GP or if it has to be from Counselling at Maudsley. All the best. -
Yes first place to start is social services. I didn't find they were at all slow but that probably depends a lot on local authority. I did find it useful, even though my grandmother at 93 is totally lucid, to personally attend the meetings (sounds formal but it's just a home visit from the social worker), this is because my grandmother would massively downplay her own needs. I think this is pretty common so its important that you are there to gently remind them of falls, toilet needs etc. They will help you work out financial entitlement and contribution of any care plan you decide on. My grandmother moved to an Abbeyfield, is this something that would suit your situation or you have considered? Alongside this she has a carer from an agency to come in every morning, just for twenty mins, to make sure she is up, make the bed and breakfast. The thing I have been most worried about is her care from her GP so also make sure you have GP details and call them directly if there is anything you are concerned about. Good luck, it is really difficult to know what to do for the best so hope it works out for you. Karen.

What's going on with the phones at DMC??
curlykaren replied to jennyh's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Its highly unlikely that working folk can make any sort of 6 pm meeting and children are eating at that time. Patients shouldn't have to go to such lengths for a decent service. If people prefer to complain via here/general NHS complaint system or however, it's absolutely their prerogative to do so. -

Earmuffs for boys? Anyone know where to buy?
curlykaren posted a topic in The Family Room Discussion
My son really wants some earmuffs but the only ones I have seen are overtly feminine. Anyone seen somewhere to buy them in a style suitable for boys thanks, Karen. -
Hi Dan. Are you able to retouch/resize old black and whites or is that something completely different? Thanks. Karen

Just no interest in doing it myself and the pics are on various devices, what's happened to the young lady who PM'd me? Never heard back from her? -

I am also after the exact same service, if you hear from anyone please let me know. Thanks. Karen. -
Can I ask police? Not sure that is a service they offer but guess if it had turned into something awful they would contact me as witness?? It never crossed my mind could be a scam, how out of touch I am!

At about quarter to five this morning I was taking my son to SELDOC and when we drove past tesco metro at the top of rye lane/bottom of the common, (same side as the rye pub but a couple of hundred yards nearer peckham) there was a man chasing another man with a huge knife. The man being pursued was desperately afraid and trying to get traffic to stop and help him. As a female on my own with a sick four year old there was not much I could do except pull over and call the police. Am really hoping that this situation was resolved without injury and the guy concerned made it home safely. If you are that man or know him and can tell me he is safe I would most appreciated it. Thanks

What's going on with the phones at DMC??
curlykaren replied to jennyh's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I moved from DMC about a year and a half ago. Because I have an ongoing medical problem I ordered a copy of my computer notes so I could show my new doctor if needed. Randomly spread through my notes were copies from someone else's file, maybe twenty pages in all of very private information. I contacted PALS who sent someone to my house to collect the papers and they also contacted the other person to let them know. No one from DMC ever contacted me to explain or apologize and a year and a half later my file has still not arrived at the new doctors. Shabby stuff. Unfortunately the new doctors is equally as appalling in handling repeat prescriptions and appointments. -
Oh no don't say that I just signed up. Bodsier, are you talking about the TV service? Unclear why phone and broadband would stop you watching a TV show?
-
You should also be able to make the phone 'scream' why not try that and see if you can hear it from outside? Otherwise I guess you inform the police, you have no idea what trouble might be waiting for you on the other side of the door? Good luck

More stupid questions....can I touch stuff/sit down/shave my legs/use hair removing cream??? before/after. Any chance it will make me look two stone lighter???? (I do realise the last one is a little unrealistic) thanks
