  2. I went past last night, too - they sure are ploughing on with the work....
  3. As is often the case, this debate has become rather polarised with some people making provocative, rather than constructive comments to support their views. The idea of "incomer" versus "oldtimer" is a false one. No doubt the majority of "old timers" are happy to see improvements in the area, the majority of incomers are glad there is still something of the traditional. As it happens I would count myself as an incomer (8 years) but it is worth pointing out that I was not attracted to the area for any of its facilities or sevices, it was way more fortuitous than that - moving from the Midlands, I got a job in Camberwell and Mrs C got had one lined up in Greenwich - so we stuck the proverbial pin in the map and headed on down to this previously unheard of area called East Dulwich. As far as I can see, we got lucky... citizen
  4. The muse flying again, Asset.... NEXT: When Asset crossed swords with Louisa
  5. welcome back FJG. The Gardens should be a bit different from living on Lordship Lane - more tranquil. Peckham Rye Park is right on your door step (and there is going to be a cafe there soon) and you are not far from the brillianr North Cross Road with its fantastic weekend market. citizen
  6. *sorry sean - fried eggs on slow cook as gas low* *wonders whether communicated fact that this is communial brunch* *anyone bringing hash browns?* *who'll provide beans?* *what'll we do for "juice"...*
  7. I once confused White Stuff with Primark...
  8. *turns over* *stretches...yawns* *rubs eyes, snoozily* *rummages in bag - pulls out camping stove, pan and eggs* *starts fry-up for Sean...*
  9. The Sainsbos connection got me thinking: haven't seen her in a while, but the girl who used to play the daughter in "Desmonds" used to shop in there. citizen
  10. *vision has turned pure white* *glad Quiet Room living up to its name today* *rubs eyes to get focus* *lines up a row of Irish Coffees* *They are up for grabs...*
  11. Walked through the rain to get there 10 mins after it opened this morning. Left the pushchair outside and had coffee and croissants with my little boy. The staff were friendly and helpful - the atmoshere very civil. Loads of people enjoying cooked breakfasts and coffees, not a sign of dissent in the house. The trick is to go there when it is not busy and the staff ain't frazzled! citizen
  12. Quick let's change the subject to "Do you believe in Global Warming in East Dulwich"...
  13. *actually, just coming out of the 60s*

What is the difference between a man and a ferrari? With the man, the prick is on the outside
  15. I really miss Redgewells. First place i had a coffee when i moved into the area. Are any other places sorely missed? citizen
  16. Can anyone remember approx. when Nero served its first coffee? It must be a while. I've made the point befroe that them opening up has not opened the floodgates to other chains. Whilst i would love to drink exclusively in local independent cafes so far nobady has been able to run a large one like Nero. Blue Muntain, Mon P'tite Chou, Jacks, whilst all lovely are really tiny, especially if you have a buggy. Makes it very tricky at busy times of the week. If someone did open up a nice double fronted unit on LL or NCR, i'd certainly frequent it. citizen
  17. They are cracking on with the Plough refurb. Outside looking good, like the blue paintwork, love the unfussy sign, though not sure if that doorway actually fits with style of building. Promising citizen
  18. Geographically speaking the strip of LL that Jah talks of (though i reckon its up to William Rose rather than Mag) cannot be the heart, as in the centre, of ED. In postcode terms, places like top end of underhill road and the Dovedale road estate are all SE22 but are too far from that strip. The EDT is just as much on the border of ED as is the Grove Tavern. I guess the CPT is as close to the heart, geographically and spiritually speaking, as anywhere. citizen
  19. *observes figures wallowing in chocolate* *moonbeams fizz around* *sky lights up in sugary technicolor* *jelly babies float on marshmallow clouds* *fountains of rich liquers spout forth...*
  20. Arctic Monkeys are a pure delight

  22. 'stead of being passed out on the floor.
  23. That's a real three dart finish, Keef....
  24. Jah, I would love that too - my point is that if all the pubs in ED get gentrified it seems a pity for those people that actually like the Harvester. Part of the problem is the location - being on the outskirts of ED - means the folks up that end of the zone get a raw deal. Don't fret we will soon have the refurbed Plough. citizen
