  1. Hey! I went to Sheffield Polytechnic and it was GREAT. I would have hated Oxford University.
  2. Housing associations often liaise with refugees and might be a good access point.
  3. If your house sale details are not on the land registry after 6 months, it probably means you have a rubbish solicitor .
  4. I am pretty sure in Bromley " intu" shopping centre there are women in white coats coming out of shopping unit offering something along these lines. I can;t recommend it though
  5. Well Robert,I had "an open conversation " with said parent and although I know this was his parenting approach, it had never been vocalised. He just said "that's one of the basic differences between north and south" , and I thought no,( its just you) and then ( being a bit open minded) I thought well may be it is? I left the north 27 years ago so have no other reference point. Any way no sleep being lost, just curious. :)
  6. I have been accused of adopting southern ways. I say how I feel quite often. I openly praise my children ( 18 and 22 now) IF they have done well. My father on the other hand has never said to my face "you have done well "etc etc. I am "over " this by now, but is it just my family? He says things like " yes, he's done well , but don't tell him or he'll get big headed". I am not asking for therapy ,just trying to see if it's a family thing??
  7. cleanliness and a big enough fridge / freezer, enough cutlery and crockery and pans /overn trays to cook a meal not reheat ready meals. Sounds fun!
  8. steveo you were listening to the Today programme too? Just feel like leaving them all too it, sometimes it feels like they live to hate.

  12. For the first 16 years of my life holiday was going to Derbyshire for a week or 2 every year to see relatives. Luckily all the relatives lived in Derbyshire so it was a one hit does all. We really looked forward to it . My children have had holiday trips to Norfolk and Glasgow every year for the first 10 -15 years of their lives too. As grandparents have died, and the children become teenagers ( and childcare costs have disappeared), we have managed to coerce the granddads to come to us /with us sometimes, so in more recent years we have had a week or two somewhere abroad. However, I do think staying in your own bed and having long day trips out is a pretty stress free holiday.(Especially if you buy ready meals/ eat out) Dulwich during the school summer holidays is perfect, so quiet, little traffic.
  13. Simple present tense I make You make he/she/it ( or other third person singular) makes .......
  14. But its not is it? It's a statement that you think its ok for 8 year old girls to aspire to this. I am sure you are not alone in this. Just be aware where its going.
  15. If you have a keen cyclist in the house ,is it possible to make the utility room the bike repair room too?? I am sick of puncture repairs at the kitchen table..................
  16. I don't have daughters, but the thought of a pamper party seems SO wrong to me for an 8 year old. Is this what 8 year old girls want?
  17. I saw this at Chelsea Flower show- looked great http://www.ownlandhomes.com/index.php/garden-pods/item/29-guest-house
  18. Hi Jolly We have just started a small English Class in Dulwich for au pairs, so they can meet other au pairs and learn English in a small group with a focus on useful Language for au pairs. This is particularly true at this time of the year, where other language classes are full. Our facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/pages/English-Teaching-in-Dulwich/1509284502625768 or you can email me at:[email protected] for more information/ private classes. We are running a 4 week block session after half term and intend to run courses in September, and possibly over the summer if there is enough demand. Being a family member of sports clubs, such as JAGS or Dulwich Sports Club is a useful way of meeting other au pairs. There are a number of facebook au pair groups that she can join to meet others. She may want to stay clear of German families ( it won't help her English ).Good luck
  19. I think a through draft is essential- ie open windows front and back, wedge internal doors open.
  20. Holt? check out Morston Sports!
  21. http://www.dulwichestate.co.uk/ This should help, but this is what your solicitor is for. Your solicitor/surveyor should help you work out if the property has had any alteration carried out to it already that required the Estates consent ( where requited)and you have the necessary paperwork - you could be asked to carrying out works to reinstate.
  22. Moist cakes like banana cake, gingerbread and lemon drizzle cake freeze well.
  23. If you have a sloping garden and can afford it it would be great to incorporate some moving water in it- and/or a zip wire!!
  24. that's a funny place to keep a willie ;)
