  1. AT 2 weeks. Both children - I could not sleep with the constant gurglings etc. A room further away with the monitor set NOT to pick up gurgling a necessity.
  2. you could be right reading the accents aloud was terrible- maybe i'll get a talking book first to suck him in.... He has never shown an interest in those graphic novels and to be honest I think it is regressive going from Mice and Men to them-but I think I may have read Wilbur Smith and Jeffery Archer books when I was 14.........I wonder how they read now??
  3. try something new- i expect there are some classes that you could try - sport/ dance yoga?
  4. we told them to get easy bus/train to tottenham hale(?) then victoria line to brixton - and to call us just before they go under ground- then you can park at halfords in brixton and pick them up from there.or you can get the 37 from brixton? we are into minimal changes with heavy bags.
  5. Funny I thought Huckleberry Finn too and it was painful to read for me. Have you read it recently ? Do you think it only ever appeals to the male of the species? I was so uncomfortable reading it our loud it was abandoned by page 10. Fussy aren't I?
  6. I really don't think you should tell them you sold it . Discretion is called for - however if you are in a position where you think they might buy you something, you could give some hefty hints to make sure that you don't get something you don't want.
  7. that is a new low. Lets stop right there!
  8. what about sniffers on the train? god i so want to offer then a paper hanky but i don't carry enough with me. gggrrrr hay fever time....
  9. i think you could snip a little bit off and put it in your baby book while you remember!
  10. There are several Dulwich's East Dulwich you have heard about. Dulwich Village- traditional area- close to good state schools until age 11 and then still good state secondary school charter- and many private schools too. Not much vibe though and more established. Good for Dulwich Park West Dulwich- this is an area with no real heart- but several shopping parades- was more popular than east dulwich with bigger gardens but has lost out in the last 10 years to east dulwich - and was more expensive.Possible better transport links depending on where you work. good for belair park and close to west norwood- North dulwich which is the area north of half moon lane - with North Dulwich station to the east and Herne Hill to the west. Again no real centre ( compared to Lordship Lane in East Dulwich) but good for transport and brockwell park.
  11. I think SJP is so unattractive and horse looking I can't bear to look at her.... Hasn't anyone told her a nose like that needs a side parting to draw attention away from it?
  12. Burtonisation. ( good one for a pub quiz). ( brewers technique of chemically changing the water of say Bury st Edmunds to make it taste/ react like the water of Burton on Trent to make the beer that used to be made in Burton on Trent taste like it does ( even though made in Bury)
  13. i don't believe it ( in the style of victor meldrew).
  14. how much did you get for the mats?? ( sorry I cant help myself )
  15. I could not forget the place mats- where are they now?
  16. men.!
  17. wow thanks for such quick responses- no to book thief and coram boy and philip pulman ( tried and failed them all)or magic- we never liked Harry Potter either.. grapes of wrath looked too long and i think swallows and amazons is too prissy ( sorry can't think of the right word). maybe there is another short book by Steinback - They did Holes at school but there are some titles I have never heard of so will have a library dash later to check out all the other suggestions. It would be nice to read a book together, but my misguided attempt at the sword in the stone was not appreciated at Christmas.!! Any more suggstions welcome.:)
  18. ?950 a month to rent a room? I have had a look on the forum and this is well over the odds. It makes me feel quite sick - all nods and winks- the sooner there is a purpose built block of tiny flats in vauxhall for all mp's fitted out with basic fittings the better. the closer it is to a scummy estate the better- and they will have to walk the street with real people and see what life is like for most of us.Preferably a pub outside with shouting and broken glasses/ fights too. ( bitter - me??)Maybe a few screaming drug dealers with guns too..........
  19. sunday school?? free at your local church.;-)
  20. We have done Darren Shand, Anthony Horrowitz and CHerub. CHris Ryan and Artemis Fowl etc. But now we are stuck. My eldest went onto Gareth Nix ( I think ) and Mallory Blakman but my 14 year old is not inspired. So many titles look so predictable - boy s-trouble- drugs - violence- safety/ hero etc. These are a real turn off ( his favorite book used to be Coral Island). He loved Of Mice and Men , but I think he is losing his reading stamina as it is the same 10 books he reads and re reads. I even tried some Ian Fleming James Bond but they were discarded. Half way through half term and apart form listening to the Uncommon Reader Alan Bennet cd we are going no where. Can anyone offer anything as a suggestion please?
  21. cash converters do police checks. croydon is very fruitful.
  22. i think you need to check if you are a listed building or a conservation area with your local planning authority and if you are a leasehold flat read the lease to see if you need landlords consent.
  23. did not work for me -if you want to try "think yourself slim " or similar i will try and find book/cd for you!
  24. any proof on the wrinkles Rosie??? Is it the perfect present for a 50th birthday?
  25. very true, although I am sure some nannies do have Radio 4 on and nip out for a ciggy too ( fair enough!)
