  1. Def not 2 at the front as it will make the steering dangerous.
  2. i second the foam bath letters- writing mum dad etc and your own name. also any magnetic sticky letters on long car journeys .
  3. i expect a lot of our parents smoked when pregnant and we're all ok aren't we????
  4. I think the whole womens bodies being sexy/ having babies is never openly discussed. I am sure I am not the only person to think her body is not sexy since giving birth/ breastfeeding? Or at least in a different way. Never mentioned once at NCT or hospital baby lessons. The only thing a nurse/doctor might say 5 hours after giving birth is what method of contraception will you use? Whilst I do not share her views I think it is good to open the debate up .
  5. i always felt it was funny when my son wrote in his school news book that his daddy gave him special cuddles in bed and drew a picture of them in bed together. i wondered if social services were goign to rush round to check us out ( they did not).
  6. wow lucky you not to have had your children been challenged in some way! Maybe you have told them in a subtle way- common sense- do not use a flashy phoen in public, walk with freinds if you can - be aware of groups/ bigger boys. if you have a good bike do not cycle it anywhere other than on a road- never in a park or on a narrow path. always have a small amount of change you can give up so that muggers think you haev something - or have such a horrible mobile - or one with an unusual charger- that if offered it they will not want it. Do not wait at busstops that are not opposite houses/ shops. try and keep where there are older people. I think my son was taken to the police station at the end of year 6 to have a safety talk but it was a bit full on. You could double check with them if they do anything else now. I think schools do /should cover this. Because there were a few attempted abductions he did have a phase of judo/taekwondo. Basically it is going to happen- you cant protect them 24-7 but I think you jsut have to give them more freedom and guidance /advice. however every time they hear a story of a friend losing a bike etc you can feel them physically getting smaller. the really sad thing ( I think) is that it invariably means that the most liekly perpetrators are small groups of black boys- or single ones -who have to "mug" someone as an initiation . My eldest son is 18 now and I think he is no longer a target- although I still worry about him a bit.
  7. What a horrible fact that is. In our experience it is all the bus stops, parks etc that my sons have come across knives and threats of knives. Knowing how to deal with this situation is very important in south London as you have to be able to have something to "give". I think boys might suffer more from this than girls "on the streets" but don't know about schools.
  8. wod does this as a profession and the yield rate is usually 5% for flats ( deferred) and the yield on the ground rents is determined by the amount of the ground rent and how often it increases and by how much - 6-7 % is the usual range, but this will not have a huge impact on the value. Try to get as much info off LEASE as you can. If you can answer the questions I asked and use the above info on yields you can probably see if the ball park is ok by using the LEASE calculator.
  9. I really think it depends what you are comparing it with. Communication falls away naturally at secondary school and state schools are not so well resourced as private schools. We did not get into Charter school, but from speaking with friends there i wouold say its communication is better than some other state secondaries by quite abit- although the student can be the breakdown in communication sometimes.
  10. 3 things what is the value of hte flat on a long lease what is the ground rent- and set increase to what and when. how long is there left on the lease. you do have to offer it to them under the 1987 act ( I think).
  11. Surely the horrible co op chemists is too big and that could go somewhere MUCH smaller.
  12. I always thought that if you bought in the catchment area, if you then sold your house you would get the money back - or better still moved out of London to somewhere you know has a good school-Kent being one of the most popular.
  13. we have been there - there is a great small golf course to do with children- teeangers-( was about ?10 A POP) and a wildlife centre and play area. Lots of wild plants.
  14. I think you might have to get used to this kind of behaviour- people think pregnant woman should be chatty- wait till you have a baby and complete strangers come up and chat to you- and try and touch your baby/ stroke and poke it etc
  15. i think 3 months to start to nose around ( they will need to give a months notice I should think)but I think early sep is a "rush hour" as is whenever a child starts school/nursery, when a nanny ends up being free for part of the day and takes on a younger child- this is how it often works. Simply childcare is a good place to look.
  16. http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/sony-kdl40ex503-kdl40ex503u-20100603700.htm This is the sort of thing as I can't bare the thought of having cables for a dish or wires up the drive and through walls, I thought if the signal was consistant it would be a good way of getting the freeviews channels.
  17. I was thinking of upgrading to a new sony hd ready flat screen tv as i do not want more cables and wires. I wondered if anyone had got one- either with an internal wireless modem or with a dongle type thing? is it consistant service? Thanks
  18. I think it was Slade at Freshers Week 1979 at the Penthouse Suite Sheffield. Not a good memory, closely followed by the Beat the following week at The Limit Club ( not much happened on the Isle of Wight in the late 70's).
  19. work is fine it is generally a pleasure it is the journey to get there that is the pain.
  20. it is always the same- Brixton and Elephant and Castle too- but inthe rush hour it is so obvious as it takes ages to get past them and everyone knows what is happening-but some people don't run away they pay up/etc.
  21. Again I would say did you get references- can you rememebr what they said? were they guarded in anyway? could you all them back and double check? These are very bad signs as most nannies I have had would call me and explain if they were not well but would coem and "babysit" and not go out etc. that is always better thatn letting your employer down. or having to call on family members an friends to assist. if you give her notice be warned she may be ill throughout that too- or even just leave.
  22. I helped her out in Clapham last year ( what a mug hah)
  23. I would love to see how her son turns out. Labour/Tory ?
  24. I think the chidlrens author Jacquleine Wilson used to work there too. I thought those letters might be made up. But I do remeeber getting a life size poster of David Cassidy in weekly instalments to stick him together.
  25. i think in that case we have managed to avoid any. are they compulsory then?
