  1. the abbeyfield society has a few houses in herne hill. worth looking into. there is a nursing home in barry road but it depends how bad it is. :'(
  2. I always think I am quite liberal but my youngest attended this for a month or 2 when he was 10 and decided to leave as he could not "WIN" anything. I thought this was good for him but he hated it and said they were communists ( too much animal farm) and would not go back. I think they generally preach to the converted- but if you discuss it and they enjoy it I am sure they will not turn into little communists. ;-)
  3. Practically Narnia- if you have to leave them in bed and go to work and tell them to be up by 10am for a tesco delivery and they dont wake up , dont answer the phone or hear their alarm or hear the door bell. They are sometimes so zoned out. I dont seem to have a fail proof method if I am not physically there. Do you have any tricks or am I in your opinion being unrealistic?
  4. ANy idea what that was about? Drove the neighbouring dogs nuts.:X
  5. yes I am afraid you are absolutely right. money does not seem to work, bed is more attractive- but time will tell. today was particularly bad as man of dulwich and I thought we had it sussed last night - talked it through with him about getting up early- driving lesson- then meal out tonight etc etc. but at the end of the day you can take a horse to water etc etc. kids are a challenge sometimes!!
  6. nappy lady I hate to say I have tried this method and yes it does work but when you have a 6 ft 2 " lad to deal with it can get violent and I am trying to think of carrots- not sticks. 4 more weeks to go....
  7. all you with young ones I can tell you now that he was always hard to wake up from school age - and hard to put to bed. So you may never have this problem. In the meantime I have barged into his room several times- he just wrapped the duvet over his head. GGGRGRGGRGRGRGGR
  8. I am getting so mad on this. has lots to do but will not get up- keeps saying I AM getting up- goes straight back to bed. I have cut off allowance, but he could get up and earn money doing chores, talked it all through last night agreed that it was importatnt to do all this this morning and we would go out later. He leaves home next month for uni- I despair. What motivates a teeange boy to get up? :X
  9. you are welcome to try my old netgear(g I think) one if it does not have far to travel. but current netgear n is great for 2 laptops, pc and x box live. and the wireless works up 2 flights of stairs. very happy.
  10. its the thought that counts
  11. i am sure they will be wanted by someone. TRy this worthwhile charity we have donated to in the past. http://www.spires.org.uk/About.html or crisis at christmas.
  12. my iron on ones from sainsburys have been fine- but i don't wash stuff above 40 degrees maybe that is the problem?
  13. i think in sainsburys dkhill they have packets with plain iron on labels and a laundry pen tht you can do yourself.
  14. i think this is a really sad that someone thinks it is a story.
  15. poor you. let me know if you want to borrow an old portable tv for a few weeks until you sort yours out.
  16. I think too that when you think other mums are so great they judge things differntly to us. I had a freind who loved her babies and everythign was great- but when she came with young family for sunday lunch she let the baby cry herself to sllep for 20 mins. I could not relax and yet she thought it was all fine and that made me realise that being a parent is such a personal thing. Whilst my crying threshold day time would be a few minutes she was quite relaxed about it. I could not relax about it- even though I tried to. What you migh stress about is not what others do and you are all ok. ( mine are teenagers now and things do get better!)
  17. the main problem is the deposit first time buyers need and lack of mortgage availability- and a 1 bed flat is first time buyer country. Sep is usually better though. Unfortunately May/June is not a good time to come to he market. Just checking you had 3 agents round first and considered what they all had to say rather than go with the one with the highest price?
  18. a weekend on norfolk is enough to crush any dreams I have ever had about returning. The thing I hate about the countryside is that everyone knows who you are and what your social set is. Just like listening to the archers. What I LOVE about London is the freedom do meet openminded people.
  19. i am sooooooo excited.
  20. i know i know- hence he is a grump a lump- i need to offer something else- i have offered flight to grand canyon and sitting on back of Harley Davidson. Too old for fantasy castle hotels Excalibur etc.
  21. Anyone been there that time of year? any recommendation for a hotel teenagers would like? My teenager thinks there is no point going unless he can visit casino. Of course I am really only going to hire a Harley and live out a fantasy without him- but need to stay somewhere that he will enjoy too.
  22. yes i think if you kind of made cot a threat and said that is where children sleep when they are not old enough, but when they are grown up and know to go to bed and stay there- star charts - big girl might light etc etc that should work ............my eldest did climb out when he was nearly 3 and tipped the cot over.............( he got a bed then)
  23. get the cot back. now. no need to have a bed until they are 3. they are old enough to understand that a bed is only if you stay in it all night.
  24. mmm i think maybe they will change the changing room door/curtains.....................;-)
  25. how much are you offering? i was stuck a few years ago and simply childecare suggested the only way was to pay over the odds. it worked. you could try offering cleaning on to it too for more hours - ?45 for 2-6pm sounds more attractive?
