  1. Surely the horrible co op chemists is too big and that could go somewhere MUCH smaller.
  2. I always thought that if you bought in the catchment area, if you then sold your house you would get the money back - or better still moved out of London to somewhere you know has a good school-Kent being one of the most popular.
  3. we have been there - there is a great small golf course to do with children- teeangers-( was about ?10 A POP) and a wildlife centre and play area. Lots of wild plants.
  4. I think you might have to get used to this kind of behaviour- people think pregnant woman should be chatty- wait till you have a baby and complete strangers come up and chat to you- and try and touch your baby/ stroke and poke it etc
  5. i think 3 months to start to nose around ( they will need to give a months notice I should think)but I think early sep is a "rush hour" as is whenever a child starts school/nursery, when a nanny ends up being free for part of the day and takes on a younger child- this is how it often works. Simply childcare is a good place to look.
  6. http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/sony-kdl40ex503-kdl40ex503u-20100603700.htm This is the sort of thing as I can't bare the thought of having cables for a dish or wires up the drive and through walls, I thought if the signal was consistant it would be a good way of getting the freeviews channels.
  7. I was thinking of upgrading to a new sony hd ready flat screen tv as i do not want more cables and wires. I wondered if anyone had got one- either with an internal wireless modem or with a dongle type thing? is it consistant service? Thanks
  8. I think it was Slade at Freshers Week 1979 at the Penthouse Suite Sheffield. Not a good memory, closely followed by the Beat the following week at The Limit Club ( not much happened on the Isle of Wight in the late 70's).
  9. work is fine it is generally a pleasure it is the journey to get there that is the pain.
  10. it is always the same- Brixton and Elephant and Castle too- but inthe rush hour it is so obvious as it takes ages to get past them and everyone knows what is happening-but some people don't run away they pay up/etc.
  11. Again I would say did you get references- can you rememebr what they said? were they guarded in anyway? could you all them back and double check? These are very bad signs as most nannies I have had would call me and explain if they were not well but would coem and "babysit" and not go out etc. that is always better thatn letting your employer down. or having to call on family members an friends to assist. if you give her notice be warned she may be ill throughout that too- or even just leave.
  12. I helped her out in Clapham last year ( what a mug hah)
  13. I would love to see how her son turns out. Labour/Tory ?
  14. I think the chidlrens author Jacquleine Wilson used to work there too. I thought those letters might be made up. But I do remeeber getting a life size poster of David Cassidy in weekly instalments to stick him together.
  15. i think in that case we have managed to avoid any. are they compulsory then?
  16. what an intervention class?
  17. From what I can see being a teacher at secondary school means teaching until Easter, revising form easter to half term and then no teaching for 6 weeks as students are on study leave.
  18. Stop it I am crying with mirth. I never got the bronze shader- maybe if I did I could have a centre parting and keep the hooter ..
  19. I sympathise- why don't boys stress? What will happen next year when they are at uni?? how will we manage without them? I will have to strtess for my 14 year old. I was too high minded to lie too- but at least I slept with a clear conscience. It is terribole they get so much study leave- a month off with 6 exams to take- all spread out. Bring on 30th June.:)-D
  20. we always found a bottle of fine ale went down well- induces sleep in Dad too.
  21. My thoughts exactly Narnia- unpaid work experience in August all well and good, but he could earn some money in September-watch this spot.
  22. i have always said "Have a good day, love you" ( in a sad American kind of way- cycling in south London makes me always want to say I love you in case something awful happens on the way to school - )
  23. If child benefit ends at the end of August, and ( hopefully) your teenager is off to uni in October, if they can't find a job in September does anyone know if they are entitled to any benefits such as child benefit or some kind of job seekers allowance? Thanks.
  24. hah - -the nose- I still have it- unchanged- but you are only allowed to take my photo at a certain angle ( it was in jackie......).;-)
  25. It is the nose/parting thing that gets me- having been told for 40 years through various womens magazines(Jackie onwards) that you should detract from a large nose by not having a middle parting, it really grates on me. ( I have had a side parting for 40 years!!!)
