  6. I agree Pam, at one time parents would have done much of of what you speak about -but for what ever reason this is often out sourced now. Some parents no longer have the confidence/time to so what they used to do naturally- see it in everything though - tennis- sewing- cooking.
  7. HUGE amount of tutoring goes on - some people very coy about it - bit like being an alcoholic! All depends on where you live and what secondary you will get into - or fight your way into. ESp if you want private at secondary where the gap between private and state can be wide- or grammer/ selective.
  8. I think you will have to bite the bullet and pop into Streatham where there are at lest 2 synagogues. I am guessing you did not have a boy as I am sure you would have had to see a rabbi by now!! I think the one at the brixton end of Streatham had an open day last year so I am guessing they are very welcoming.
  9. i am sure health visitor will not approve but I would but baby rice in the bottle and give it that way. my mum did it to me.:-$
  10. i would put feelers out now- especially as you may know nannies whose families are expecting in january and so will be redundant then. i would not spend much money on it just yet then step it up in october. good luck:))

  20. njc 97- I need him to answer the door to tesco delivery men, gas boiler men etc etc. -the ones that say we will come between 10 and 12- to save me taking a day off work. otherwise i could not care less. he does have a job but it is an "as and when " so he sometimes gets up at 10 if he can be bothered and i know he works really well when he gets there. i am having a problem with "stern words" they seem to wash over him now. it really is the actual act of waking up and getting up I feel an automatic physical device needs to be invented.!!!
  21. If your school intake has a large proportion immigrants - for example polish, czech, somali or some time ago serbo croat and the children do not speak english, and their paretns only sparingly, they will take longer to teach, and therefore almost aways take more of the teachers time. This is especaily so for younger children. They are so tired at the end of the day they come home and speak their native language with their paretns, their parents will find reading isntructions and reading stories in english difficult . it is true that children learn quickly but of course they take up extra resources which schools are not properly funded for. yes we know parents that are from different esp european countries that raise their children as tri-lingual - but they both spoke english themselves and their children obtained fantastic language qualifications. They were highly educated which also assists.

  23. partner got the 185 back as normal saturday so all was well he did not notice anything.
