  1. Make a tent under the table with sheets and blankets, then put all the soft toys under and have a picnic- come on, you know you want to really. why go out ?
  2. i think they sometimes find it hard to switch on to maths, they think it is boring/ see no relevance/ have no confidence. I would try and get a personal tutor if you can afford it- if you try your self it can all get too personal. my eldest son was like this, but now he plays a sport where mental maths is important his maths - pb's times , averages etc are all so much more important to him. We had a tutor for 2 terms once a week in year 11- but i had done loadsof those carol vorderman/ letts books- it just never stayed in his head long enough.
  3. I always remember my secretary won a week in barbados for her and hubandl when the baby was 2.5 months old- she went and left her with her mum ( who she has only seen twice) for a week. she had a great time luxery 4 star hotel and said it gave her mum a chance to bond.all was fine. it is what you feel happy with.
  4. ditto- these poeple usually drive cars that they dont mind scrahching/ denting, and they would swerve and knock some one down rather than " give in" . DOnt tally with them.
  5. wow-I did not know that-the most succulent steak I think I may have to go there now............
  6. We have started buying sainsburys ready Chinese meals, under the assumption it is really chicken in there.
  7. the best steak i have had was in an argentinian steak house on queenstown road sw11.ONce you have one there you will find anything else inferior here
  8. this is soo not true- it depends on your childs personality. same for sweets, fizzy drinks, computer, xbox. some do not get fed up.
  9. i have found the au pair world web site really good, but previous to that the abc aupairs run from SE22 somewhere were very good - now maybe abc/linka au pairs- they screened the girls in their home country. you might prefer an au pair who has already been to this country if you want her to look after 4 year olds, as she will need to be able to read to them with expression (IMO).
  10. Did the journalists by any chance own homes in East Dulwich??
  11. are you paying her national insurance etc? I think that has something do do with it- if you are being strictly legit then you do have to give some paid holidays i am sure- but if you are doing it all cash in hand etc there are no strict rules- but the you have all the health and safety/ insurance issues- it is a minefield and if it is to be long term I really think you need to draw up some kind of contract- even if it just has 10 simple headings, including sickness, holidays, notice, national insurance, tax, accidents in/ out of the home .
  12. we have just come back from the states where there are free water fountains everywhere, so you can empty your bottle and then refill from a drinking fountain the other side of the gates. that is so sensible- are so much greener than our approach- how long before we have free water fountains in our airports/ shopping centres?
  13. wont this also have big implications for HMO's? having to be licensed etc? i think they will have to move pretty quickly to catch up with all the admin that exists . ah well a lot of consultancy working coming up for some one I expect............
  14. sounds like a planned/inside job to me.
  15. cant you just see this being a nightmare with the governments housing benefit policy?
  16. cheese scones? cheese straws? sausage rolls? jam tarts or biscuits are fun - coconut macaroons?
  17. seriously?- what class is that then???
  18. what annoys me most about hospital carparks is that when you park there you have no idea how long you will be. they should be pay as you leave. nothing worse than getting the dreaded phone call " you need to come in " and then have to guess how long you will be- not saying anything- but knowing instead of spending 2 hours with an ill relative you are just going into be told the tragic news and then deal with the paperwork etc. the last thing you want to do is to try and guess how much money you need to put in the blxxdy machine. ggrgrrrrr
  19. my husband despairs of me insisting on ketchup on my cornish pasties- he will never guess i have hidden it in the fridge.
  20. i have just started putting my ketchup in the fridge- i have suddenly turned middle class.::o
  21. i am sure you have a lot to give to someone Waynetta-maybe you could volunteer to cheer others up by taking your laptop into old peoples homes/ hospitals and show them the things you find funny? :)
  22. i think he has a point.
  23. we have done it twice with no stopovers- and I think that is bearable going, but coming back it is very hard- especially if you are coming back to a London winter - short days etc.
  24. 100% agree with Dulwich mum. But that is quite a lot of change for him-a third place? and he is 4? I am sure that is not your choice- but it sounds quite a strain.
  25. i usually ask trailfinders first- i have then tried other places but found trialfinders competative and reliable.
