  1. None of my neighbours in their flats on ED Grove have a log-burner....I wonder where most are in Dulwich?
  2. The Village end in Village Ward is wealthy...come down my end and view all our lovely garden-less flats, come talk to the family next door with two bedrooms and 4 kids - It's not unhelpful and it isn't them and us - it is the truth that so called boundary roads have lower income families, lower car ownership and a higher BAME percentage of residents. You may find this an unhelpful truth - so be it. 2.5 million house on Gilkes with storage for 3 cars (an LTN supporter) versus a 2 bed rental no car storage and dependent on PT (a family that is in despair about the LTN causing congestion).
  3. Dulwich PT is not AMAZING - it is a very low PTAL score and trust me - sitting on a 37 bus that goes through many 'boundary' roads is not a joke in rush hour - much, much longer journey and much more traffic congestion on that route since LTNs. It used to be about 25 minutes to Clapham, now about 45-50 minutes. I usually walk 2 hours a day and get trains, but having twisted an ankle I have gone back to my old journey - it is noticeably worse.
  4. I'm not a group of people, so I am not saying the same. I would be more than happy to ban all private cars from London tomorrow - that isn't going to happen and I think you would find many residents on boundary roads would not have such an issue with that 'policy' as they do not possess car storage - but do take a walk down Calton Ave and Gilkes Crescent - car storage private roads for the ultra-wealthy and I think you might see who would object. My view is different from Rockets and Metallic and Legal - I am sure we all differ slightly, but I fundamentally agree with them that LTNs do nothing to tackle climate change, pollution or vehicle miles driven in Dulwich and East Dulwich and cause a new (well for nearly the last two years) elevated congestion and pollution problem on some high density residential roads On high pollution days - I think all private car use should be banned for the day.
  5. Affordable, regular and clean local public transport that isn't stuck in idling traffic and affordable London wide public transport. Private Schools in Dulwich to face up to the real problem of non-local car traffic on the school run, contributing to local residents ill-health - maybe free access to sports facilities and swimming pool to ALL ED Grove residents might make up for the dent in our children's health caused by them making a nice profit? An honest account from Southwark about utilising LCC just because a prominent member lives in the area and using this niche, mainly white, middle-class and male organisation, as the primary consultive body - rather than talking and listening to the residents of LL, Croxted, ED Grove, Grove Vale and the Dulwich portion of South Circ - many of whom depend on public transport and live in smaller properties with no garden with extended families and a lower car usage and ownership. I laughed the other day when an LCC member complained about how far he had to drive his very large people carrier out of London in order to cycle on nice rural roads in the countryside. It seems that many of the wealthy want the privilege of living in a City - Waitrose delivery, Gails, nice restaurants, Amazon, bread, milk, wine, flower delivery, parking for 3 cars - but don't want to see or acknowledge the pollution, poverty and crime that does unfortunately come with this 'deal', so by closing a road, they can at least ruralise their bit of London. Maybe thinking about all residents of this city and pushing for policy that reduces pollution, crime, poverty for everyone is something better to aim for.

  7. I'm not a member of the DA but I know two Labour Party members who are - so this isn't about political party's. I have voted Labour since I was able to vote, with a few Green votes dependent on how irritated I have been on the national LP policies. In the local elections I intend to vote for a candidate who recognises that the traffic and pollution on the road I have lived on for 30+ years, so called ED Central - is significantly and dangerously elevated since roads were closed in 6 very wealthy areas. The idling and congested traffic during the time hundreds of young children were walking to school was horrific yesterday on ED Grove - no one with any sense can witness this and then say the data shows a drop in congestion and traffic on ED Grove - except of course the Council continuing to gaslight us residents with their weirdly collated and invented data. Today London is on a high pollution alert - what does this mean? The idling and congested traffic on ED Grove, stretching from LL to DV - which you can go witness right now at 08:10 will not be removed by air currents, but will instead stay at a child's height so that they will breath in significant amounts of pollutants. Ella's death was partly caused by a high pollution event due to congested traffic from the South Circular - which runs through Dulwich, which triggered a fatal asthmatic attack. Hopefully nobody suffers an equal fate walking down ED Grove while idling traffic belches out these pollutants today.
  8. Noisy and big... but I imagine future versions will be more reliable and quieter. It is a step forward but I think needs further development.
  9. 'insane' 'stupid' Hopefully we can all keep to the theme and discuss statistics, pollution, consultations in a more considered manner.
  10. Hopefully we can all keep to the theme and discuss statistics, pollution, consultations in a more considered manner.
  11. Tessa Jowell has the most amazing clinical pharmacist, she has been incredibly helpful with my partners epilepsy meds. Every GP surgery should have one! Hope your issues are sorted out soon - I know these things could and should be sorted out over the phone, but I find a visit in person seems to move things along a little quicker, if one is able to of course.
  12. "This is because what is being measured is traffic flow, ie the number of cars to pass a certain point over a certain time period. So what Croxted road is seeing is "traffic down" as Cllr Leeming has said, but this is because it's often moving very slowly or at a standstill. Emissions / pollutions will be up, significantly so." Exactly right - if traffic is moving slowly, static and/or idling, emissions go up but traffic counts go down - this is why traffic counts are used to prove that LTNs 'work' but the journey times of vehicles (including buses) and close monitoring of pollutants are not used. Much like car ownership reduction being used to 'prove' less car use. One obviously does not equate to the other. Thank you admin for the new thread - the old one was becoming littered with personal attacks from all sides. Hopefully we can all keep to the theme and discuss statistics, pollution, consultations in a more considered manner.
  13. I'll happily listen if he does stand - I'm always thinking about critically analysing anyone's policy :)
  14. Mmmh I believe he is pro-LTNs, campaigned for them and lives in one..so nope...not getting my vote. I like him, but not voting for anyone who believes this policy isn't anything else but Green-washing and about entitlement for a certain sector of residents.
  15. Maybe they should remember that their founder Edward Alleyn was all about offering opportunities to the youth of the day.
  16. This is great - I hope this stays and gets some funding from the Council.
  17. Using an average doesn't show the danger of peaks - it is the peaks in pollution that exacerbate asthma and can cause dangerous levels leading to a rise in childhood and adult mortality. The table also says 'predicted' rather than actual which is very concerning. Why not the actual? How can one predict pollution levels - it's a strange take. The maximum figures don't make sense - we know that NOx on ED Grove measured 59ug per cubic metre at some points. I know James that you truly believe this is all for the good, I hope you are right - but unfortunately those living and breathing on ED Grove right now are experiencing a very different reality.
  18. I'm not a very Christmassy person and meet many friends online, as well as having my lovely partner. I imagine for any elderly people living on their own, having Christmas cards from friends and family at this time of year is a comfort and a welcome joy. I certainly haven't had any of the cards I usually receive. It's sad the PO is struggling - it was great to be able to walk to the sorting office in Sylvester and the guys were very helpful. 1. Safely visit your elderly neighbours and wish them a Merry Christmas 2. Vote wisely so that we can have the postal service back into national ownership with proper funding 3. Hope that one of your missing letters isn't a one time offer to win a billion :)
  19. It would be nice if we could discuss the local situation, but as it seems that the pile on for my opinion seems to be more interesting for some on here and an excuse to not allow an important discussion on a policy that quite frankly does not achieve what it claims - I'll dip out - so long and thanks for all the fish.
  20. East Dulwich Grove - exactly Rockets "The September 2021 figures have been set against 2019 figures from ?a comparable location? (it?s not stated where this is), and seem to have had an enormous influence on Southwark?s thinking" and "apparently this shows that traffic in the middle of the road went down between 2019 and 2021, even though traffic at either end (the Dulwich Village end and the Goose Green end) went up" How does traffic in the middle of a road with closed roads all around go down 20% when it is up 26% at both ends with nowhere to go - this 20% also being calculated by dubious pre-lockdown figure. It would be good if this could be explained.
  21. I agree it is certainly busier down Ashbourne. Is there any data in the latest report?
  22. Shall we keep on topic about local LTNs? Maybe someone could explain the EDAus why their road is now the driveway and parking area for Melbourne's Waitrose and Ocado deliveries?
  23. Exactly EDAus, when people accuse us of opposing because we are ?car drivers who don?t care about pollution? , it is absolutely gaslighting. Most of my neighbours do not own a car and I have driven 3-4 times this year, my partner not at all. We walk, take the bus, tube and train. Why do we oppose - because we are now living with an increase in traffic and have suffered an increase in pollution both noise and air quality. I agree take all the parking away from closed roads and turn into public garden areas for us all to have access to. Why will that not happen -because as you say, the people on Melbourne who have ran the close our road campaign are car owners and drive their cars around. They do not want to give up a parking space but are very happy to drive on your and my road. If traffic had decreased why would I oppose? I would support. I?m sure you feel the same. Certain objections were listened to (Melbourne Grove) and others were not (EDGrove and Ashbourne Grove) this much is true.
  24. An accurate account - there are not 25 peer reviewed articles and the conclusions of car use reduction is based on car ownership reduction inside closed roads, active travel increases based on 'interviews' - which is unscientific in my critique of both the methology, statistical analysis and conclusion in the articles widely flouted. In the same way the SatNav caused more traffic on side roads argument is incorrect as the increase in traffic on side roads data was actually because the way the traffic was collected and counted was changed - this has been admitted by TFL, yet the SatNav argument therefore wrong - even so I still see this incorrect data on Twitter almost constantly as the rationale for closed roads. Some of her published work is paid for by TFL. Those are 'facts' and a critique of both the people holding this work up as proof and some of the conclusions made by the authors but not of Rachel herself. If you write research papers and publish you expect critique - it's part of the modern process to 'test' data for 'rigour' before any implementation and the issue is that this standard is not applied for these emergency road closures.
  25. Not really an accurate account of anything I have written - but that's to be expected. Always the person attacked - never an answer about the actual data.
