Bus noise on Red Post Hill
binkylilyput replied to redposthillresident's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I really sympathise with you. I live on a busy road and cannot hear my TV when the window is open in the summer. When I'm in bed (at the back of the house, away from the road) my bed actually shakes when a big vehicle/ bus hits a bump- sometimes shakes enough to make me jump up with a start......and that's at the back of the house! I see the point of view of TFL and bus users as I use buses a lot myself. The noise can still be tiring in the summer though. I've learnt that the next time I move I will certainly take road traffic into consideration. I hope there is a solution for you -

Camberwell sexual health centre
binkylilyput replied to anna_r's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Sorry to hear of you cr*ppy experience at Camberwell SHC. I've found it just fine when I've been either for drop in or appointment. For IUD I made an appointment and all went smoothly but this was a couple of years ago. I've also used the Mary Seacole centre in Clapham which was good too -
Glimpse of something unpleasant at a restaurant
binkylilyput replied to Lee Scoresby's topic in The Lounge
Oh no, sounds nasty indeed The restaurant/ catering industry remains a tough, tough work environment for many with this kind of behaviour common and un-checked -
Yep, rendelharris, I completely take your point that occasionally the cycle lane CANNOT be used- I experienced exactly the same problem last night due to mounds of leaves in the cycle lane. Either I couldn't plough through due to the depth, or was finding it very slippy indeed. All these stories of aggression on the road are so disappointing and a bit scary. I'm such a happy little me on my bike and consider myself to be doing my bit for the environment, congestion and my health. Going back to the OP, I hope this hasn't put you off cycling. I'm not sure how I'd handle it if such a disgusting thing happened to me.

Totally agree- arrogant cyclists who don't use cycle lanes and skip red lights are doing the cycling agenda harm and other cyclists are annoyed by you and find you dangerous as well as drivers As for minimising the seriousness of a kid throwing p*ss in someone's face, well...........

New restaurant - Johnnies Kitchen (cafe on LL)
binkylilyput replied to JohnniesKitchen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Truly remarkable how some people (no names mentioned) can turn any thread at all about some kind of class digging gentrification thing!! Really boring. Anyway, welcome to you Evening Johnnies (I think this is what you should re-name yourself)......!!! I'm not a fan of enormous TVs generally either but obviously great if going to watch sport or some other event. Maybe suss out the situation with customers to see whether they find it intrusive. Good luck :-) -
I tend to politely take their leaflet and say thank-you. I've never found them to be rude or pushy and so I don't see the need to respond in an unfriendly manner. Following that off they go. It takes up a few minutes of my time, no more than the gas man wanting to read meters for other people's flats or signing for other people's deliveries. It might help if JWs could add to this discussion but my understanding is they don't tend to use the internet

Many pizza restaurants are indeed pushing there pizzas into the ?10 and above zone but Franco Manca have continued their lower prices.....the cheapest still there at under ?5 I agree that it is important to have a range of places that are suitable for different budgets :-)

The Real Greek to replace Jaflong?

The Real Greek to replace Jaflong?
binkylilyput replied to Louisa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't think Real Greek does charge over the odds tbh. It's really quite affordable for many. I can't say I'm a huge fan of chain restaurants but sometimes it's good to go to one and know what to expect. I would prefer that to the independents that charge a fortune for something mediocre but sounds swanky And yes, would probably prefer anything at all to another generic curry house! -
I'll have a good few spoons of practically anything straight out of the tin before warming it- beans, soup, spaghetti (all Heinz), tinned fish........oh and marrowfat peas, mmmmm!! This goes on while waiting for toast. And I really can't think of anything that doesn't go with toast.

Travellers (no longer) on Dulwich Hospital site

Children from Harris Academy were seen throwing things at the travelling community on PR Well done to those ED parents who have successfully taught their children dubious values -
Children learn how to behave from somewhere......

Travellers (no longer) on Dulwich Hospital site
binkylilyput replied to Marjoram's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've gone quiet because I find the tone of a number of the posts on this and related threads offensive. I also see that when others have challenged the prejudicial undertones of some comments (not even undertones in some, just blatant)some posters have then become quite rude and nasty. Try swapping the word "traveller" for another marginalised and persecuted minority and see how well it sits then. Amazing how such comments are deemed perfectly acceptable when made about people from a travelling community. And now posters can say that if they hadn't left rubbish (as many, many other groups of people do who aren't travellers)then East Dulwich would have welcomed them with open arms and a cup of tea. Yeah right. -
I'm not sure that advocating for a welcoming and inclusive society for travelling communities signals an "orgy of self righteous virtue signalling".......but I guess that's an insult that can be thrown at any attempt to redress the balance for the marginalised. As rendelharris points out, sometimes this can prove challenging. Does that mean that integration and inclusivity should not be a fundamental premise for education (or housing, or health care etc etc)? No, of course not. Although some posters have suggested that this should only happen if the majority (and more worthy?) do not have to make changes....... Welcome to my knee-jerking orgy of stupid ideas
-
Yes, a complete red herring. While modern society has come a long way to address systemic discrimination and casual racism with regards to many groups, unfortunately it is still widely apparent and seemingly acceptable when it comes to travelling communities, as echoed in this thread http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/discriminating-against-gypsies-and-travellers-is-common-across-britain-report-finds-a6919651.html

But I want to talk about Camberwell.......so here goes Crooked Well- can be really good. Happy hour cocktails are good if you are out to get wasted. I've eaten some good food there and I think they tend to churn out some pretty decent stuff. Which they ought to, for the price. They began by being a bit up themselves but have come down to SE5 level now I think. They have lots of offers on these days, such as BYO booze on a Monday and half price steak or fish on different days. Had a delicious bouillabaisse for sharing a while back which was half price- would have been incredibly expensive otherwise. Camberwell Arms- an absolute joy Bear Freehouse was by far my favourite but has changed hands and is now run of the mill FM Mangal- really great

I honestly don't know what I'd do sometimes without the regular laughs that EDF provides. This thread is a gem, please keep it going..... I must absolutely love to be seen as in any restaurant my fave seat is by the window......but I'd always thought that is because I like to see out. I also love to take a table outside where possible, but again this is due to wanting to enjoy the rare warm hours this country has to offer. Maybe I have misunderstood myself and I actually like to "be seen" in East Dulwich! Bizarre to me that Louisa thinks East Dulwich is a place to be seen? Anyway, back to MeatLiquor. A really successful business that has been running for a number of years, originated locally and by a local guy Yianni. Great competition for the mediocre GBK in my opinion As I've said before, welcome home Meatliquor. I'm looking forward to being seen there!

Two rescued Greek stray puppies looking for loving homes

Nope, someone trying to find a home for two stray puppies is a long way away from what I find distasteful Good luck anelia, you really are a kind soul for helping these little ones > alice Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Sorry folks but does anyone else find this > thread > > distasteful? -
Mikado? As in the chocolate? Chocolate and booze are acceptable at all times I say. I particularly enjoy a little breakfast tipple, feels wonderfully indulgent Bucks Fizz anyone?!
