But I want to talk about Camberwell.......so here goes Crooked Well- can be really good. Happy hour cocktails are good if you are out to get wasted. I've eaten some good food there and I think they tend to churn out some pretty decent stuff. Which they ought to, for the price. They began by being a bit up themselves but have come down to SE5 level now I think. They have lots of offers on these days, such as BYO booze on a Monday and half price steak or fish on different days. Had a delicious bouillabaisse for sharing a while back which was half price- would have been incredibly expensive otherwise. Camberwell Arms- an absolute joy Bear Freehouse was by far my favourite but has changed hands and is now run of the mill FM Mangal- really great

I honestly don't know what I'd do sometimes without the regular laughs that EDF provides. This thread is a gem, please keep it going..... I must absolutely love to be seen as in any restaurant my fave seat is by the window......but I'd always thought that is because I like to see out. I also love to take a table outside where possible, but again this is due to wanting to enjoy the rare warm hours this country has to offer. Maybe I have misunderstood myself and I actually like to "be seen" in East Dulwich! Bizarre to me that Louisa thinks East Dulwich is a place to be seen? Anyway, back to MeatLiquor. A really successful business that has been running for a number of years, originated locally and by a local guy Yianni. Great competition for the mediocre GBK in my opinion As I've said before, welcome home Meatliquor. I'm looking forward to being seen there!

Two rescued Greek stray puppies looking for loving homes
binkylilyput replied to anelia's topic in The Lounge
Nope, someone trying to find a home for two stray puppies is a long way away from what I find distasteful Good luck anelia, you really are a kind soul for helping these little ones > alice Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Sorry folks but does anyone else find this > thread > > distasteful? -
Mikado? As in the chocolate? Chocolate and booze are acceptable at all times I say. I particularly enjoy a little breakfast tipple, feels wonderfully indulgent Bucks Fizz anyone?!

A child doesn't have to be "hurt" to be abused.........or simply not treated well. Early detection and people raising the alert is key. Would you for one moment think a parent would be cross with someone trying to be helpful and raising their concerns? Particularly when there was another person nearby that was shared the OP's concern?

I'm excited by M&S! Well maybe not excited.......there's a limit to how excited I can be about a supermarket.....but pleased. I won't do a weekly shop there, but I didn't do that at Co-Op either. Pleased another rubbish small Tesco or Sainsburys isn't opening- there are enough of those. I will be pleased to pop into M&S here and there when I want some treats and better quality stuff. But this thread is about Co-Op having a facelift so, what's the saying, you can't polish a turd?!

Windsor Walk, Denmark Hill Station
binkylilyput replied to Ladygooner's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As a pedestrian and cyclist I have very much enjoyed the absence of traffic swooping round the corner and down that road as a cut through....particularly during rush hours when there are lots of people trying to get to/ from their train (or to the Phoenix pub)! But I guess this has been a gifted period of peace that shouldn't really have been...... -

New curry house - east dulwich road
binkylilyput replied to Louisa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
And yet not bizarre that yet another non descript curry house is opening where the usual offerings are served up as all the other places? I love a curry, and the generic curry houses certainly have their place........but how boring to have another! Would have been great to have something different........better for business too Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Jeremy, it would seem a bizarre move to me for a > restaurant chain to open a further branch in a > neighbourhood with only limited footfall most of > the week. Ooh, ooh, thanks for the heads up! I find that bit tricky to negotiate- having inched my way through the pedestrians and other bikes at the crossing I admit I often then find my way over the path to the cycle path bit as to follow the cycle path around seemed very awkward. I didn't know I was doing a crime! I find Rye Lane can be a bit of a minefield with pedestrians, other cyclists (generally more scary than the pedestrians as they weave around me and over take me with little space), motorists and buses. I take it very slowly and constantly watch for people stepping out, particularly in amongst parked buses. If the cycle path was painted green like the rest of it that would help pedestrians be more aware maybe? Before I started cycling I was guilty of walking out in the way of cyclists as I hadn't anticipated they would be coming down there.

Dangerous driver - Peckham Rye
binkylilyput replied to Annasfield's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hmmm, I have a feeling I may have possibly encountered this driver a week or two ago. I was cycling on the same stretch of road but had passed the Rye and was further along the road in Nunhead. There are parts of this road which aren't the widest and with parked cars it sometimes means cars have to wait a little. I admit I'm also not super speedy. As I headed down the hill I was aware of a car coming up behind me. He then proceeded to beep, beep, beep his horn as he passed me and shout something through his open window. I just gestured as if to say "what's your issue?" This was a silver car (no idea what make/model) and I think the guy was balding/ shaved head. Chances are it isn't the same person though I guess -

Oh we totally need a missed connection thread like in the Metro! "I saw you looking in the Oliver Bonas shop window.......fancy a coffee?" etc etc Or maybe East Dulwich is a bit small so could get creepy?!

Plumber recommendation - A.F.E Plumbing Services
binkylilyput replied to frenchie33's topic in Reviews
Aria did a great job- prompt, reliable, worked super swiftly, polite and gave a good price. He arranged for someone else to come out within 2 hours to sort out a further problem. Pleased to have dealt with a helpful and professional plumber as have not always had a good experience in the past. Thanks :-) -
Diazepam/Valium - whether to take it or herbal remedies
binkylilyput replied to Susanna Omynona's topic in The Lounge
Saffron I was about to take the time to type a long response counteracting some of the nonsense spouted here with some factual information but you beat me to it so thank-you! Susanna you have been having a shocker so glad you have been to your GP for help. Yes there are all kinds of options for helping yourself manage stress. Your GP has begun the helping process by prescribing a very small dose of Diazepam (you may not even notice any effect from 2mg of Diazepam, I wouldn't). You have been prescribed 2 weeks worth as it isn't a great long term option, partly due to it's addictive nature. With 2mg for 2 weeks you will be just fine. Diazepam and similar benzos/ sedatives are also regularly prescribed for flights. Do what you would normally do on a long haul flight to minimise impact of the flight on your body which is to drink fluids and take a walk every so often. Unless you are very, very sensitive, a cheeky glass of wine/ G&T with that will also be fine! There are ways to help yourself manage stress longer term (Saffron mentions a few) both with strategies and/or medication and maybe some carers support. In the meantime, take your GP's advice, take your prescribed medication, enjoy a wonderful respite break and then see how you feel on your return. -
Ok, so I sorted her out enough that I could get her to bike hospital where she is now receiving treatment! She will never be the same again (they are going to have to amputate her mud guards for a start) but she will live....albeit traumatised. I'm off shopping for multiple double strength locks while she is treated in hospital so that she can sleep easy on her return home!

Very serious indeed. Yes, Brockwell Lido gets very busy and frantic. There would need to be adequate numbers of lifeguards who need to be well trained to manage such an emergency. I would like to see this thread possibly moved to the main forum area to ensure that more forum users see it? Not least because there will be parents reading who might appreciate a heads up on safety if their children/ young people are visiting the lido.

Dulwich Park - (dog) walkers and cyclists
binkylilyput replied to rendelharris's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hyde park has a cycle lane, an equestrian lane and a pedestrian lane. All are free to wander off their designated lane but are advised to look around to check they aren't going to get in the way. Maybe Dulwich park would benefit from a cycle lane? There is a clear lane for horse riders........imagine the uproar if they cantered all over the place! This is about safety primarily no? Those long leads for dogs are just fine......it's always the dumb owners who can't use them sensibly that are the problem. -
Thanks for all the tips. I am a newcomer to this and so lots to learn. It has dampened my enthusiasm a bit! The article is very interesting but not hugely reassuring. It seems as though if a bike nicker wants it, they will get it somehow. I thought my cute girls bike of little value would not be a wanted item. As I said previously, I would rather they had actually taken it rather than just broken her! I guess I could consider another location but I thought the bike rack at a station was best. I can't fit it inside my flat. Have other people had similar experiences with bike's being nicked/ vandalised? I'm thinking it must happen a lot so I feel sorry for the people who have invested proper money in a bike.
-
So my poor little bike has been vandalised. I locked it up in a bike area outside a station and found it at the weekend all bent so the wheels don't turn and the chain off. I guess someone was trying to steal it and was maybe trying to break the lock by tugging at it. So I'm now left with a bike that I can't wheel and no means of getting it anywhere. Would have preferred for it to have been stolen! It wasn't worth a lot but I'm sad anyway as I'd only had it a month or so and was really enjoying my cycle to work. The lock I had on it was pretty flimsy to be fair- one of those cord type ones. I would love to get another bike but am afraid of the same thing happening. I guess I hoped that securing it at a bike rack by the station was safe-ish. Anyone got any advice? Does a stronger lock (such as the bar type)deter someone from trying to tug it free?
