  1. I think ?18.5m would be too much for Glen Johnson - I'm not even sure we'd see much of his attacking ability as he'd soon have to follow the party line of sitting deep to cover Carragher's lack of pace. I'd like to keep Arbeloa as he can do a good job at left back or right back. Hopefully Rafa can raise some money by flogging Dossena back to Italy.
  2. I bought a punnet of strawberries on lordship lane last week and the bottom layer were engulfed with mildew.. people may say what do you expect for 56 pence... well I expected the kind of quality that wouldn't mean next time I'll trust the supermarket. The only butcher I am aware of on lordship lane is william rose, now surely a bit of price competition from Waitrose (say on the site of Iceland) can only be good for local customers.
  3. The ruling elite have probably planned years for this kind of scenario - I'm sure they'll brush it off with some kind of political gesture but ensuring their man keeps his hands on the steering wheel. What will not happen is any admittance of electoral fraud (if indeed that was the case) as then the whole regime may collapse.
  4. If Liverpool are bidding ?18.5m for Glen Johnson then obviously our finances are a lot rosier than previously reported...
  5. Would be good to have a Waitrose... but where? The only suitable site would be Goose Green, but I don't see that getting planning permission judging by the reaction to the dog fence that cut it in two.
  6. The Cystal Palace was situated on the 'ancient boundary' between Kent and Surrey.. is it possible the old border runs on what is now Crystal Palace Road hence it's name?
  7. I thought Glen Johnson was coming to Liverpool, until I read we were signing Micah Richards.. maybe the papers are correct on both and they'll be fighting for the right back slot.. I'd have thought Glen Johnson going back to Chelsea would be a footballing mistake as all the ingrediants that took him off the tracks in the first place are still going to be at the Bridge..
  8. "Villa Marksman Scores Own-Goal"
  9. I used to like Asta restuarant on Middlesex Street (10 mins) from Liverpool Street - always full of Japanese customers. Good value and tasty bento boxes to eat at lunch. More variety and better quality than the Asta takeaway / sandwich shop between Liverpool St and Moorgate.
  10. Yes I stand corrected, The Arsenal Stadium Mystery is great...
  11. You might also want to consider people from north western Europe who in many cases speak better English
  12. Well I hope Cantona is more impressive than he was in his first outing as the bumbling French ambassader in Elizabeth - personally the only football related movie I've ever taken to was 'Escape to Victory'.. and of course 'The Miracle of Bern'
  13. The real reason Rafa wants more English players in the Liverpool team is because they get the summer off every year - whereas the Spanish lads will have played 4 years non stop by the time Liverpool lift the European Cup at Wembley in May 2011.
  14. Yesterday's performance against Western Province does not bode well for facing South Africa on Saturday. In fact the Lions seem to be getting worse each time they take to the field. On Betfair the Boks are 1.44 to win Saturday's First Test, 3.4 for a Lions victory, 25/1 the draw.
  15. What they failed to mention is that in Harrods there is the "East Dulwich Deli" - I thought I was seeing double when I saw it, but my jaw really dropped when I saw it was ?9.25 for a sandwich!
  16. Grrrr...oan
  17. Ronaldo is a fantastic player who is ideally suited to the smash and grab athletic nature of the Premiership. It's when he faces quality opposition that he looks more ordinary. Put a quick, strong defender on Ronaldo and he is often quiet. I've no doubt someone like Rio Ferdinand would shut Ronaldo down. The difference between Ronaldo and likes of Messi / Kaka / Torres / Gerrard is that those guys really are unstoppable on the biggest stage. It is difficult to truly judge Ronaldo against someone from the 50s, 60s, 70s as we've usually only got goal highlights to go on which gives the impression that every time George Best or Bobby Charlton put their foot on the ball it resulted in a mazy dribble and a block buster goal. What I would say is that Ronaldo has been the most influential player for his team in the Premiership even more so than Henry was at Arsenal or Gerrard at Liverpool.
  18. Impose prohibitive taxes on all food products and soft drinks that contains unhealthy ingrediants - this should hopefully direct us towards a healthier population to thus ease NHS budgets.
  19. I was watching Time Of Our Lives on Sky that focused on Matt Busby 1960s team. Jeff Sterling opened it up with, United dominated the 60s ... shortly afterwards one of the ex-players from that period David Sadler groaned how that team, of Law and Chartlon, almost got relegated in 1962/63 season.
  20. Putting aside all the tantrums, winks, stumbles in the box.. was Ronaldo United's greatest ever player?
  21. Even if the Yanks did accept a bid for Torres - Torres would simply say no.
  22. Ronaldo was very influential for United - and they will be transformed without him for better or worse. I don't think anyone is going to miss him departing these shores. United usually spend about ?50m each summer so that on top of the Ronaldo money makes a bumper ?130m transfer budget.
  23. I think ?80m for Ronaldo must have been agreed last summer - but i think key to the deal was a penalty of about ?25m if they didn't execute the agreement.... as no way do you pay ?56m for Kaka but ?80m for Ronaldo. I think Madrid were forced to go through with it.
  24. Good meeting you as well Mick. I think the Boks are going to be too powerful although it would be wonderful to see the Lions win the series I cannot see it happening. The South Africans have too much firepower in my eyes, Bryan Habana, Jean de Villiers and Schalk Burger are world class and seem impossible to stop even by the All Blacks.
  25. After the success of tonight's End of Season Football Focus Drinks at the Vale, watching England beat Andorra 6-0, I thought I'd propose another series of events.. The Lions versus the Springboks... Would anyone be interested in meeting at the EDT for the British & Irish Lions v South Africa on Saturday 20th June? It kicks off at 2 p.m. so would like to firm up interest in advance.
