  1. What is it that provokes the Police to stop and search a particular individual, is that the colour, is it the hooded top, is it their age, or something more innocent? I often get stopped and searched when I go to the football or airport - and you know what I'm glad because it means they're checking that people are not carrying a weapon that can cause harm. If there is a risk of being stopped and searched will that increase or decrease the chance of someone deciding to carry a lethal weapon on the streets? Should we be worried about ruffling the feathers of those the Police consider worthy, rightly or wrongly, of stop and search versus the benefit of saving just one life? Of course there are scum bags in every walk of life and yes they will also exist in the Police force happy to abuse their powers - but does anyone disagree with the concept of stop and search on our streets? The alternative is treat everyone as an adult and simply place up signs such as, 'Please do not carry knives down Lordship Lane', I wonder which strategy would be more effective....
  2. Obviously depends on the time of day... If it's a quiet take the Park Lane / Edgware Route options above But when it's busy Vauxhall Bridge/Embankment/Earls Court/A40/M1
  3. Looks like Rooney has let himself go again during the summer break, when is the lad ever gonna learn ;-)

    Iran

Wasn't sure whether to paste this BBC headline onto the Expenses thread.. "Ayatolah Khamenei says most evil opponent is the British government"
  5. Well said skidmarks - everyone should be aware of these fundamental rules, but judging by the response from my first post you'd swear the highway code was pedestrian propaganda.
  6. I'll be watching that All Blacks v France game on Sky+ after I wake up - should be a classic encounter with All Blacks looking to save face and tie the series. Have a late breakfast / early lunch then down to the EDT to watch the Lions versus South Africa - which should be a cracking atmosphere. I know it's not patriotic but I've already placed a small bet on the Springboks to win tomorrow - I don't see how the Lions are good enough. I fear the Lions will be blown off the park as the Boks have superior handling skills, speed and power. It's a daunting task for the Lions taking on the World Champions in their own backyard but good luck to them!
  7. Love this quote from Torres: ?The white shirt of Madrid is very famous and for a lot of players their goal is to one day play for Madrid. The white shirt is a huge privilege for players, but for me the biggest privilege in Europe is the red shirt of Liverpool."

  9. Yes now that sounds like a great idea!
  10. Well it was the last game of the season.. otherwise we'd have waited.. besides Mick Mac turned up to represent Manchester United, although after a few drinks I think he was ready to sing YNWA! I suppose we could make it another end of season drinks for the Lions game in EDT on Saturday afternoon as it appears there aren't many rugby fans in East Dulwich - see http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,292707 to post interest

  12. I agree with Atila it's just gentle banter - if people are taking it as a personal assault on their own character then maybe we should tone it down a little and focus on boring stuff (like I guess they do on the cricket thread) such as what is ideal air pressure in a football... zzzzzzzzzz It's a shame that not everyone could turn up for the End of Season Football Focus drinks as that may have thawed some of the unnecessary ice.
  13. I was on the roof when I took that photo! Pinned down on the slates as I made the ultimate sacrifice of holding on with one hand so I could take a photo, even though I was being bounced up and down by the full furry of the chopper blades.. Phew!! I don't even think that photo is on Sky News yet!! ;-)
  14. It hovered over a few streets for quite a while - it was a Police helicopter (as per photo taken)
  15. Helicopter overhead - possibly trying to pin down culprit(s) who may be on the run
  16. I thought the name may have been because the ancient Kent / Surrey border run through what is now Crystal Palace Road - the link being that the Crystal Palace was built on the Surry / Kent border. However from this map of 1786 we can also see Goose Green and of course None Head. Click to magnify
  17. Yes I'll be there Mick. The Lions starting XV has just been announced.. with 5 Irish, 6 Welsh and 4 English 15 L Byrne (Wales); 14 T Bowe (Ireland), 13 B O'Driscoll (Ireland), 12 J Roberts (Wales), 11 U Monye (England); 10 S Jones (Wales), 9 M Phillips (Wales); 1 G Jenkins (Wales), 2 L Mears (England), 3 P Vickery (England), 4 A-W Jones (Wales), 5 P O'Connell (Ireland, capt), 6 T Croft (England), 7 D Wallace (Ireland), 8 J Heaslip (Ireland).
  18. It seems Fernando Torres has had his head turned by a pair of dolly birds in South Africa
  19. Very interesting Woof, it sounds like Lamb will always be good regardless of whether you get it in supermarket, W.R. or Rye Lane, and so it just comes down to price. I've probably over simplified that.. so could you please give us some more information on the Lamb story.
  20. Well friends in North London would always say to me, "Matthew you want to get yourself out of that shit hole"

    Iran

That is a very sad state of events Chick, I hope that somehow peace will soon be restored. --- Mockney - To criticise the tactics of the opposition does not mean condoning the actions of the ruling elite. We could sit back, or maybe we could launch a few rockets into Tehran, arm the opposition, or simply invade from nearby Iraq... I wonder what route all that would take... starts digging underground bunker. Yes we want to see a peaceful transition of power toward western ideals rather than swinging towards North Korea, but I'm not sure what the West can do about it as diplomacy didn't seem to have much affect when it came to their supposed Nuclear threat (or did it?). It seems atrocities have happened since the dawn of mankind, institutionalised or not it's the same result, there is no magic switch from night to day, it takes time and a lot of blood may be shed (like it was in the Western world) if Iran is to reach the freedom we have in this country. What would you suggest Mockney, the West does (if anything)?
  22. Jeremy - I think I've already responded to that statement in my reply to Loz. However, "Right of way" is as it suggests - who has the right, the priority, to cross / cut / move across a path on the road first (not can I step in front of a speeding bus and expect it to successfully put down anchor).. and this is not about doing cartwheels down lordship lane either it's about trying to safely cross the road. Yes both parties are obliged to follow the highway code but the priority is most definately with the pedestrian. It seems from the earlier posts that some people were of the opinion that a pedestrian trying to have right of way at a junction over a car is like a face off between two cars... it's not!
  23. Are you sure it was a customer, as it sounds more like a burglar!

    Mikecg

His life was cut short it appears...
  25. I didn't either until hpsaucey brought the W.R. one to our attention a bit earlier. I've never been in the place on Rye Lane as for all I know it's pre-packed, but next time I'm down that way I'll stick my head in to get an impression.
