This man in the Plough, on Sunday, according to sources. Well, another poster on another talk board.

Ted Max has "got" it. Have I. Is there a cure?

Did the Sea Cow really close Golden City - surely GC was gone long before 2003, or is my memory playing tricks? Also, Jeffries writes, "There's a cabinet at the front of the shop with more outr? fresh fish from Billingsgate that you can choose for lunch". Fresh fish? In London? Someone write to the reader's editor quick.

I see Crystal Palace Road seems to have been called Harris's Road. A bit of early "carpet" bagging from the local peer? And is the modern day The Gardens a throwback to the Market Gardens as marked on the same site? Surely it is. Lovely map, and I'm sure you've all done this already but if you cut off the after the slash stuff and put www.mappalondon.com in yer browsers you can see a lot more of London.

Quiz night at the CPT turned ugly when the Old Gits finally failed to win?
-
Do the lads from the Post Office still share out the day's "takings" at the end of the shift up at the bar? Or has the internet killed off the brown paper parcel trade and its attendant perks for inquisitive post office staff?

With the full support of the ES, Boris will campaign against the gesture politics (handshakes with Chavez, mad mullahs etc) and rehash all the old stuff about the congestion charge extension, hoping to mobilise a massive Tory vote in West London - the area most affected. One or two City types will be wheeled out to opine that Ken is risking the City's status as people will take their deals elsewhere if London become "uncompetitive". But Ken will win with a huge majority, the Tories will wonder why as everyone they spoke to asured them Boris was such a nice chap. The rest of the country will wonder why a local election has to be on the national news every night.

Only two schoolkids at a time, though! Always makes me chuckle, that.

The worst night out on LL (Liquorish)

Yes, the chef should have just said, "No can do". I agree. -

Ummm, please don't flame me here but you chose a non-veggie meal and asked for a veggie (EDIT) version. Now, obviously this was beyond their competence, but it wasn't as if you ordered something calling itself veggie mezze and then received the crackers etc Were there no actual pre-arranged veggie options on the menu? -
Have you had Leslie Sharp yet? Pretty sure I saw her turn right out of Hindman's Road onto Underpants Road about 2 hours ago. EDIT: Ooops, she's Lesley Sharp, not Leslie, which is why she didn't come up when I ran a search to see if you'd alrady spotted her. And you have. (Monica, in April)

Should East Dulwich twin with Dulwich Hill?
Ted Max replied to macroban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
In the 1990s many shops were vacant, but in recent years most shops have tenants with thriving businesses. Caf?s and restaurants have become popular as the suburb becomes gentrified. Should be perfect. -
I've been involved in two community projects and she's supported both - in one case giving virtually an entire Saturday afternoon of her time. It may be vote-grabbing but isn't that actually how you should go about winning votes?

Or open an off-licence.

I thought the Gingers were the Vikings and the Celts were small, wiry and dark, with thin noses and a natural ability to play openside flanker? Not sure what that makes Mr Dulwichmum though.

Working definition of "incomer" (to East Dulwich)
Ted Max replied to macroban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
*Bob* , you haven't quite mastered the passive aggression of the snide implied insult followed by "placating" smiley, have you? You dim twit. :));-) -

If AJ Farmer falls to the Farrow & Ball tyranny then I for one will come out fighting on behalf of the old timers. -
Foxtons are coming - Fact (ED housing market)
Ted Max replied to DiscoDex's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't see how artificial posturing (or a little harmless trolling, if you like) helps debate. It sets up false antagonisms and creates perceived divisions where possibly none existed, or widens division where consensus could have been achieved. Which is unnecessary, unless you just like arguing for argument's sake, which I suspect you do, Mr Dale. (btw I don't think Disco's postings are all that bad in this instance, I'm just making a broader point in reply to yours) -

I don't for a minute imagine DiscoDex is for real. I don't think he's in our time zone, for a start. And if he is, he is an insomniac Foxton's employee. -
Are Crocs the new Bovver Boots, then, and assymetric haircuts the new skin'eads? The Croc-booted army of nu-mullets march on, cleansing the unwanted with their hard stares and unwillingness to barney in public.

The lady who ran the top shop now works in a bakers in Peckham.. Gregs I believe. Was she the owner or a manager on the payroll? If they could have held on a couple of years longer think of the money they could have made.

Agreed Re: the Foresters. Wasn't so happy with the pub dog jumping up on the tables, but it wasn't as bad as people make out. Was it the Millwall fans and the big screen that put people off? They were a more open and varied crowd in there than you get now. I also miss the large fruit'n'veg stall with the bloke with the flat hat 'n' beard (also a Foresters regular - not surpisingly as it was right next door) and his female accomplice. Very handy that place was.
-
BUT: Ted Max - your comment about the extractor fans is fundamentally flawed - You're right, it is. So if it smells of chip fat inside, how is this authentic smell not invading Macroban's nostrils when s/he passes by. It must be, in fact, because of the very poor extraction, keeping all those wonderful odours inside.

I liked the toy shop (v useful for those last minute present crises). And the jewellers with the friendly old couple, near the DIY shop, even though the man in there managed to break my watch mwhilst changing the battery. And the dry cleaner's with the nice Greek/ Cypriot family next to the Magdala, although they may not be missing LL as they worked so long and hard.

Fresh fish is just not factual sorry to destroy your illusion, very typical in London may I add In fact I come from a fishing town/ village, with generations of family working in the industry one way or another, but thanks for the lecture all the same. My point about it being as fresh as you can buy in central London was a nod to your valid point that unless you live in a beach hut and eat the thing while it's still moving nothing is really "fresh". But, it's as fresh as you're going to get round here - hence you pay more (plus a little bit on top for the lifestyle experience stuff, but so what?). You say that sometimes the "very best fish you can buy" is fish that has been frozen immediately and then defrosted. Those sometimes are when there is no actual fresh fish available.
