You would think thle best place to put a 20mph speed camera is on Barry Road in this area. They have just put speed bumps in to Landels, not sure of the point exactly though as very hard to do 20+ down it before anyway! Is there any actual data on the impact 20mph limit has had v 30? -
It's a cash grab. Anyone put FOI request in yet to see how much in fines and payments generated so far? Will be ????????!

Got a Christmas card yesterday, was sent second class on 13/12!

The police stations were closed, police numbers were cut, police priorities were changed. Blame politicians who have done this, not the police! In ED for example, we used to have a proper police station on Lordship lane and sub police station on crystal palace road and possibly other locations. The police, like the royal mail and other essential services, have been run in to the ground over the last 20-30 years. How did you get a speeding ticket outside Harris? Police with speed gun? There isn't a fixed camera there?

Not to be a kill joy, isn't Halloween American? Why are we in to it these days, most are just wasting the pumpkins.. Can't we all just stick to the 5th of November and be happy with it..

Southwark schools in financial difficulty - Dog Kennel Hill?

Why do there seem to be so many burst water mains these days? I've lived in London 30 years odd and don't remember these continuous problems till 10 or more years agao.

They can just get off and push via the pavement 10m perfectly legally, Road Traffic Act 1988. Section 34? Pushing is not driving! Surprised motor bikes don't get around the LTN by doing this already to be honest? Saw the start of this on Sunday, was walking up Calton to turn right in to Woodwarde. Seemed odd bike coming down towards the square road block. Why the rider didn't just get off and push the bike 10m I don't know. Maybe deliberately provoking trouble for some reason.

Nice little earner (penalty charge notices in Dulwich)
mrwb replied to tomdhu's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is nothing that you can do for now. The council will just issue a sham consultation that has a predetermined outcome to do what they want and continue the schemes. At least that is what happened so far. The only possible way of stopping it I can see would be to elect new councillors with a specific mandate to put a stop to it. Even then I wouldn't be surprised if the incumbents win again... Who locally would be prepared to stand? Maybe one of the Dulwich groups campaigning against the restrictions will put candidates forward? -
Will take business from Gail's, and that other cafe on dulwich Square? Never tried Romeo Jones or even knew of it till read this thread :) It'll be an attritional battle of survival. Unless Megan's brings people in from elsewhere?

Bike stolen out side Dulwich sports centre
mrwb replied to Natty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Imagine if you know, there were actually police and police stations still in the area to do something about it? There was actually a sub police station a bit further down crystal palace road originally iirc. These thieves can act with almost totally impunity now, so they do. If it's me seeing that I probably would tackle them, though as you point out the chances of getting knifed are reasonable. Bike stolen out side Dulwich sports centre
mrwb replied to Natty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Totally lawless! Who is taking the photo watching them steal it? Police won't be interested no doubt. I had a van stolen earlier this year, professionals simply changed the ECU out, programmed their own key and drove off! Tracking quickly blocked. Police couldn't give. -
Good news, if everyone just buys normally there won't be a shortage. Nothing changed with distribution or supply from this time last week. Just the panic buying... spoiltdog Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Grove vale, service station open for fuel 5 minute > wait at 6am this morning unlimited no cap on how > much

Panic buying is causing the problem, so what do we get, more panic buying.... And posts telling people to pile in. Emergency and other vital services need fuel very probably a lot more than you do. If you're stock piling fuel way outside of the normal amount you're going to use you're a moron and the should be told when you try to fill up!
-
The only shortage is the one being caused by the panic buying itself! If everyone just did nothing and bought as usual there wouldn't be a problem. What is happening just sums up the state of this era generally perfectly. I read in the council leaflet that car use has declined 10%, it occurred to me quite a bit of that was probably due to the local population also declining 10% in the last 18 months. Given what a traffic riddled crime ridden hell hole a lot of Southwark is turning in to, have they modeled what happens when the population falls another 10% and so on? This is what happened in London for years after the war and it only turned around in the 80s. Cyclical? Not just the LTN of course, Covid has shown people can work from anywhere in quite a lot of professions. Then you have Brexit and vastly reduced immigration too. On the crime side, the local police stations are a foot note in Dulwich history now. Cat thefts, bag snatches and even getting a sawn off shot gun in the face when you open the door are now common place? Can't imagine why people who can work remotely who have kids especially, would now choose to stay around here.

Southwark schools in financial difficulty - Dog Kennel Hill?

Depopulation of London likely a factor here. Seems a few kids left my sons school year and no new starters this term. Guess that is a theme across Southwark and London generally. -
Council to drop Everyone Active for Leisure Centres
mrwb replied to ed_pete's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Looks like they're funding it already or presumably would have had to close down, so may as well: ", have resulted in Southwark Council funding the borough?s leisure provision until the end of its contract with Everyone Active." Oh well, at least all those PCNs have been put to good use I guess... -
Pretty shocking incident, if it's an unprovoked attack, surely the perpetrator needs sectioning! 6 years, out in 3? is ridiculously lenient!
-
It will be dynamic depending on traffic or any unexpected road closures etc. Use Google maps if you can.
