  2. Sorry Quids, but not sure I can agree with you on this. It was far from a rich list of dead. It was a combination of working class passengers and then an additional 500 or so staff from Southampton who made up the dead. Southampton mourned this tragedy more than any other town. I was coincidentally in Southampton on the anniversary week and went to the exhibition and the local feeling is still strong amongst families there. 100 years is a major anniversary and that will be the end of it. More stella?
  3. Declan. Please.

Related point - I have heard that wills (of the dead) are public documents? Is this correct and how do you access one?

  6. They love a laugh the Irish. They have a couple of 9/11 inflatable towers lined up for September.
  7. I don't think either of those two posts were deserving of a smiley face. Please use smileys less frequently or risk blunting their impact :)) :))

  9. Much prefer Paxman to Walden. Walden used to pick up on very minor points and nag nag nag,,,, to the point that the interview had no real conclusion. Find there is better chemistry between Paxman and interviewee, generally , but not always.
  10. Yes - fantastic news for Goodrich and I'm sure all Goodrich parents are thankful for the efforts of the Governors and the new Head, who have all done a fantastic job in trying to improve the performance of the school. It seems this is a process that started quite some time ago and is now beginning to pay dividends. We are all grateful.

  12. Both euro semis look nicely poised. Worth watching.
  13. Lennon is cool. Except when he is hot and bothered.
  14. We were bored with the "humour" of the opening posts....
  15. I have bought through Winkworth and think they are fair.
  16. That's quite funny....
  17. Parkdrive Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Chavski fans cover themselves in glory by booing > during minutes silence. @#$%& one and all. Obviously the one and all bit is not true for all chelsea fans. But its an embarrassment for football as much as anything else. And I say that as a football fan. Its always sad to see when any teams fans or minority of fans let themselves down. The minutes applause was invented to prevent these people from having a voice.
  18. Yeah - this thread had high expectations, but a disappointing ending. Poor scripting. It went from Stephen King to Julian Fellows in but a few hours.

Huguenot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Mick Mac, are you suggesting that he should have > killed himself in some sort of 'Seppuku' ritual > even if there was a space on a lifeboat that none > other were available to take, Funnily enough that seems to be the suggestion of the questioner at the inquiry. But space on a lifeboat that noone else was available to take? If that was the case then fine but were there not many who could have taken this place ahead of him?
  21. The official inquiry into the titanic exhibition asked ihim the direct question if felt it was appropriate knowing that he knew there was insufficiet space for all passengers whether he asked if he owed that space to another passenger. His response was no. The captain and the designer went down with the ship like many others who had no input into design and no control over events and Ismay should have taken the same decision as the captain and designer. Helping others onto lifeboats is no big deal if you know tjeret is going to be a space for you on the last one.
  22. I was at the Titanic exhibition in Southampton last week. It affected many families as the crew were mostly fromSouthampton and about 500 of those lost were local people. The exhibition included spoken transcripts from the inquiry which put Ismays conduct under the spotlight. As it was at least partly his decision to have insufficient lifeboats and arguably he put pressure on the captain to increased the speed of the boat, he surely did not have a right to a place in a lifeboat. However without his survival the inquiry would have been short on official information. Also watched the BBC2 commemoration from Belfast last night which was very good also.
  23. I have read this whole thread. I'm a very slow reader. You have wasted my whole Saturday evening GG.
  24. Was on Sunnyhillboy as my biggest bet of 5. How the jockey allowed SHB to lose that race I will never know. There was an audible shout of Nooooooooooo , from Friern Road as it got beaten on the line. :(
