  1. Pele - overrated - never there when needed.
  2. Not fit to lace his boots: This is what Thierry Henry said about Larsson: In his final game for Barcelona, he won his first UEFA Champions League medal. Larsson came on as a substitute and assisted both of Barcelona's goals in a 2?1 win over Arsenal. Thierry Henry paid tribute to Larsson's contribution to Barcelona's win after the game, saying, "People always talk about Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Giuly and everything, but I didn't see them today, I saw Henrik Larsson. He came on, he changed the game, that is what killed the game. Sometimes you talk about Ronaldinho and Eto'o and people like that; you need to talk about the proper footballer who made the difference, and that was Henrik Larsson tonight."[7] Indeed his ability to give Barcelona the cutting edge required to overcome Arsenal was noted by the international press.[8][9]
  3. Surely we can discuss players / heroes of the premiership on this thread - its all football and premiership related - but I don't understand people getting so personal, no matter how much you hold your team dear, you should be able to keep to light hearted banter. Now don't anyone even think of slagging off Henrik Larsson. I would not take kindly to that.(6)
  4. You mean Matt agrees with you Atila. Some people agreed with me.
  5. It was well deserved I thought. Cantona was an orchestrator, rather than an out and out goalscorer.
  6. Is this the same 185 Nigel that we had a thread on before - This guy is a complete pain in the backside - but I have to say I have not noticed him recently, maybe I have just been lucky.

The current bunch are not exactly in keeping with the utopian image of ED that I was promised. Not exactly organic, if you catch my drift (although the irony is that they are, for the most part, locally sourced). Locally sourced builders etc are pretty much restricted to one pub in ED now - being the Castle. Will be interesting to see if they achieve a more balanced mix of ED residents with the new facelift, I'm sure all of ED types can mix together?
  8. Alright then, you are not interested in what I say - you have no need to respond to any of my posts ever again. So stop starting your posts with "Mick Mac wrote"...
  9. I don't support an English team Atila, but I do admire good players and I do admire Henry, just think he was over admired in general and there are others I'd have in my team before him. If he had scored against Barca in the champions league final when through and leading 1-0, I'd say that completley proved me wrong, but he fluffed his big chance to win Arsenal the trophy that remains missing from their cabinet. Maybe this is time for us to pick our all time best 11s - (he won't be in mine) - I'll do mine at lunchtime.
  10. Why do you take this so personally? A number of other people have said something along the same lines, so there must be some truth in it. A couple of my friends, one an Arsenal fan has said the same thing for years. Nevertheless you should not react as you do to another persons opinion.

    Br?no

When you need to book a babysitter you choose your nights at the cinema carefully. Did not think Borat was that good so probably won't see this one. Unless you are recommending it, which you don't seem to be. Don't think he will ever surpass Ali G.
  12. John Hartson has been diagnosed with cancer. My thoughts are with him and hope he makes a full recovery. He was a menacing presence on the field but seems a really nice guy off it and was making a career as a football pundit.
  13. matt. Its more about the goals in important games than the number of goals scored and also the goals scored when really needed. I dont remember that many. What i remember is hats of goals against lesser opposition.

Yes - we have stopped using them, their quality has gone significantly downhill. Like the OP, we have > used them for years to the point that when I give > my order he tells me my address! This just means they have the incoming call number linked to their address database.
  15. My recollection of Henry is that he scored heaps of goals against lesser opposition, Bolton etc. Most goals I recall he was in loads of space, Arsenal often sucking the opposition forward and playing balls through to Henry with defences stretched. Davy mentions that he did not reproduce at international level. Also he was a failure in Italy, being sold by Juventus after scoring just 3 goals in a season. I have to say Matt, I don't know what his record is against MU, I do remember the wonder goal he once scroed but apart from that don't know whether you are right in saying he had a good record against MU, What I would say is that post Vierra, Arsenal did bugger all against MU that I remember. He became captain post Vierra, but won very little. Just more evidence of when asked to step up he was unable to do so.
  16. Eh - what happened? I thought England were going to lose?
  17. "Revision of history" - do you mean me per chance Matthew?
  18. I do accept he was a very good player - just not a fighter for a lost cause. And that means he falls short of being the complete player.
  19. id have cantona in my team ahead of henry everytime. My beef with henry is that sometimes goes missing when he team is losing. He played for teams that won things, so what. Cantona stepped up when his team needed leaders and created and scored key goals. And as for world player of the year did david beckham come runner up for that award when cantona and Keane were still playing alongside him. That made fergie laugh.Henry was a very good player but he was not always there when the chips were down. As for his time at barca i dont think he is a key player for them, they have such a good team hes going to get a lot of chances. The truly great players are the ones who turn games that appear lost and cantona for me did that regularly. If henry was that good hed have played the peak of his career for one of the top teams in europe (arsenal are maybe just outside that group).
  20. indeed steve. Kids are well looked after there days. I used to get a dry cheese sandwich and some orange squash for my school lunch.
  21. One for the Aussies struggling back home after the VB overload:
  22. Plank? - easy gooner. Henry is stil to make the grade IMO. All style but not one to have on your team when you are down. Sorry mate.
  23. Henry - a sunshine player. He only scores when you're winning, he only scores when you're winning.... Never quite made the grade at Barca. Not a bad player though.
