IMO whether he actually got his fingers in Fitzgerald's eyes or not, it seems clear that is what he intended/hoped to do. He deliberatley went for Fitzgerald with his fingers in the eye area and the ball was nowhere near them. It looked like a nasty move, whether he was successful in actually gouging or not. I have never seen such an obvious attempt at gouging on television before. Bad advert for rugby. As O Driscoll says if parents are considering whether or not to encourage their kids to play rugby, they would have their minds made up for them right there.

Funny how you come at that question from a negative perspective BBW. ?200 is the most I have lost on a single bet (Celtic). I agree with all thats Quids said, so no point in me writing my own summary. I keep a complete record and for the last year (from August 2008) I am up ?1,300 but that was ?2,200 at one point as I'm ?900 down over the last few months. Most bets would be ?10,?20 or ?50. I'm currently betting smallish until I get a win as I am beginning to feel the recent negative cashflow. It definately adds a lot of interest to sporting occaisions that I might not normally care much about, so provided you bet within your means its good fun.

needed smartening up is an understatement. I used to go there a few years ago but it just got more and more run down. Looking forward to giving it another try as its my closest pub. My wife is out and I have just been unpacking the online shopping and have found in one bag - to my utter horror - a packet of Bakewell slices. What should I do - should I confront my wife openly about this purchase, demanding an explanation, should I keep quiet and pretend it never happened, or should I throw them in the bin and hope she does not notice? I see anything by Mr Kipling as something only very old people have in their cupboards - we can't be there yet.

Winning is not everything in life Quids.

I generally find them annoying when I'm fast asleep and they jump on top of you - that is really really annoying. I'm a deep sleeper and probably have had a few beers the night before, could really do with an additional 3 hours kip and to be woken up you feel - ok the day has started and its going to be a long time before you get any more kip. Apart from that first in the morning thing, kids are (mostly) good fun. Oh and the first 6 months after the first one is born - thats takes quite a bit of coming to terms with - your life as you know it - is over. It gets better tho.
