  1. He has just read all the Percy Jackson.. oddly I ordered Stig and Iron Man last night, he has read some Eoin Colfer, i will get more of that and some of the other ideas. Thanks all, more ideas welcome

Not true of Stig who reads as well now > as he ever did!! Agreed re S &A I started reading Pigeon Post to him and the text is quite longwinded. We have a version of S*A on Cd which is brilliant though

  4. How old are they?
  5. Thanks. Will try those. We have the Swallows and Amazons series already I just remembered.
  6. Hi, DS1 is 8 but is a very good reader and has gobbled up Harry Potter and the like.. Wayward School...How to train your dragon.. Charlie Bone... and more other sets than I can recall! Anyone got any suggestions for books he might like? Series are good as once he reads one he wants to read more ...
  7. Problems with handwriting mostly though he is very clumsy, can't sit still, general coordination difficulties. Turns out his fingers are very flexible and not strong, and he looks his elbows when he writes, hence his odd pen holding technique... I have eak ankles Pippa, and dislocated one and have done a lotof hsyio over the years.
  8. Does anyone have a child with this? I have it myself and it runs in the family, now turns out DS1 has it and it has much more of an effect on him at school than I would have imagined...
  9. I am on third in a sense as no 2 was twins, if you get me.. twins were 2.5 when new baby came. I have found this baby (once he started feeding!) the easiest and most pleasurable. But logistics is an issue, going anywhere esp alone is hard, if they're ill it's hard, if they have to go to hospital it's impossible. People don't tend to invite you round... family tickets are always 2+2...

  13. I loved the stuff about getting the baby to love your boob...I wish I had read all that when I was struggling with my non-latching tongue-tied baby a month or so ago. Inspirational and lods of lovely ideas, inc for those whose baby never becomes fully bf but instead feeds a little for "comfort"
  14. The fact that a previous bid for capital funding has been successful doesn't mean the day to day running costs for the future are safe from council cuts... I don't think anything can be considered safe atm
  15. I was in and out of hospital this last time, a total of 9 overnights before and after the birth, and an induction that spanned several days... I only met one midwife I didn't get on with, the others were all really nice
  16. Our family are very prone to tooth decay (something to do with particular mouth bacteria?) Dentist advised ds1 used adult toothpaste for the extra fluoride. "Big teeth" has 2x as much as adult toothpaste. I wouldn't go with the nonfluoride ones myself
  17. I wish I had read these while I was struggling around Xmas (newest babyF is now propelry bf, since about 6 weeks, amazingly!) http://mamaandbabylove.blogspot.com/2010/12/make-your-boobs-happy-place.html http://mamaandbabylove.blogspot.com/2011/01/what-to-do-if-your-baby-wont-nurse.html
  18. I don't think juice is very healthy at all.. the sugars are worse for you than the sugars in actual fruit. But us adults worry less about our own health than we should, really, whereas with children we are setting them up for their whole future lifestyle aren't we Useful site re different sorts of sugar in fruit vs juice: http://www.intelligentdental.com/2010/08/31/top-5-diet-changes-to-help-prevent-tooth-decay/ You can get UHT milk in little cartons, I think from Sainsburys, possibly also from the milkman My childen have all been fond of water in plastic bottles with child friendly tops (sorry planet)
  19. sugar free juice is not sugar free has juice in, fruit sugars, plus artificial sweeteners.. they can then call it no added sugar i think if you can make water their main drink, you do them a service for life we just have squash or juice as a treat/with a picnic i like juice myself but rarely buy it now otoh juice with an iron rich meal aids iron absorbtion but first 3 years for a child is so formative,i would really push the water ours really do prefer water, much as they eye up juice given the chance
  20. plough p rye park cafe
  21. Personally I would try very hard to avoid juice as a drink and insist on water. If you're firm you can win. It's so much better for teeth and health. Think ahead to all those years of quaffing juice ahead... I find orange juice gives my little girl cystitis, btw, my friend's daughter is the same
