I have a slightly different view which is that I don't take his comments personally but I find his pointers to research into various aspects of pyschology are quite interesting and it often prompts me to go off and look up the various original documents and other related thinking. I find that at least there is some science there underlying his writing (though no doubt there is science to support an alternative view) I reserve my spleen for those parts of the parenting "industry" which peddle the "10 steps to sleeping through" and all the other crap which sells the parenting mags, for those who make a career from advising parents on weaning, sleep etc when they have no qualifications, often no experience and not many hard facts to back it up... I can read something that says (as an example) that nursery care for under 3s, especially boys, isn't optimal, without breaking out in a guilty sweat that my twins attend creche 2h per day. I don't think it would really be optimal if I was a stressed out emotional wreck and my house was demolished by toddler twins, either! But I did read a lot of staff about small children and childcare (and speak to DS1's godmother who was a primary headteacher at the time) before deciding to go with a minder rather than a nursery for DS1. I wouldn't criticise someone who chose an alternative route.. and god knows we were lucky to find a good minder... but that doesn't negate the fact that there is quite a lot written about early childcare (Penelope Leach for eg) that indicates a nursery isn't necessarily the best choice, from the child's point of view... Shoot the message not the messenger, or whatever the saying is. PS I agree he comes across as an opinionated twat. But Others I set greater store by - Margot Sunderland, Penelope Leach, say many of the same things.

I usually only post in the family area, and this sort of thread makes me feel I am right to avoid the Lounge etc. Too many trolls and bad tempered people who just want to squabble, in my mind. But they're certainly a minority, most forum readers wouldn't even know who they are. Small fish in a big sea, despite what they might like to think.

We have had quite a few of these over the years.. they start off like a 50p piece but end up like a dinner plate. Not found any to be snappy but they do outgrow their tanks if you look after them well! We used to feed ours on bits of liver, I think you can also buy frozen food

If I went to BlueWATER can I assume all these shops are there in one place?
-
That looks more like a terrapin than a tortoise... Pinched from a pond or lake by a heron maybe, and dropped?
-
I must confess I have never been to Bluewater and the thought makes me feel a bit pale but needs must, maybe. When I say I am not a great shopper, I mean I avoid shops as far as possible.... onlien shopping isn't very good though if you are not sure what size you are going to need.

I am actually looking for some help with swimming over the Summer holidays (and possibly Sundays as well?) and have a little ad up: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?25,478473 I have suggested someone meeting me at the pool but I could inctead pick them up and deliver. So if anyone has a teenage daughter or an existing babysitter who might be interested... pay would be ?10 and it doesn't take more than 90 mins from getting to the pool to being dried and dressed...

Where should I go? I rarely go clothes shopping full stop, then usually M&S or primark. I am not a great consumer.. 1st pg I went up to marble arch IIRC and went to a few shops (my boyfriend seemed to have some inside info that H&M and Dorothy Perkins sell maternity stuff) With the twins I got stuff on ebay. But I sold all that stuff, now I need to start again and TBH I should bite the bullet and go on a shopping trip.

I didn't know that Hugenot had specific knowledge about what is allowed and not allowed in the world of marketing via social sites... now I do I put all the more store by his view that the individual discussed on the other thread had overstepped the mark in terms of what was acceptable and allowed by Facebook.

For eg, cows milk protein allergy is fairly common in babies (but they grow out of it) while lactose intolerance is rare (but many people lose the ability to digest lactose as they get older)

I think she needs to specify when she is booked that the family will drive her home or pay for a taxi.
-
I think a taxi or life home should be included!

I think, luckily, the receptionists at DMC break this mould. I have always (in recent years) found them to be very caring and helpful. -

But he was there at about 10 to 7, for a 630 appt... my guess is that the dr had left or was seeing the last person. The clinic starts to run down towards the end. He wasn't two minutes late.. as people have said, DMC's policy is 10 mins late, and from my experience they are even flexible about that if you are polite. Though the automated checking in system is inflexible, the reception staff are not. -

DS1 of course is still asleep (along with his dad) but his godmother is taking him out for the day and due here at 930 so I think I may have to go and wake him up... he's only 7, evidence that early rising is only a short term thing.
-
Mr F usually gets up first actually but after a particularly early 5am start yesterday he was looking a bit peaky last night. Plus I went to bed at a very sensible 930 but I suspect he was playing computer games till the early hours.

Receptionists at DMC have actually been lovely to me this week when I was in a car accident (I'm pregnant) and woke up bleeding and the midwives were on answerphone. One went down to try to find a midwife, and got me an immediate call back from the duty doctor and then when I rang again the next day remembered me and asked me if eveyrthing was Ok after the emergency scan I needed. I have never really had a bad experience with the reception there, not in the last few years anyway.
