Love it :-)
  2. would be great if it would reopen soon as I'm annoying my other half by clogging up our bedroom with all my dumbbells, medicine balls, mats etc! hope they have a decent free-weight selection with smith machine/bench and some mirrors so you can at least check your form while lifting! if they do open by July I'll be extremely surprised... but equally quite overjoyed! :-) fingers crossed!
  3. We went to Jaflong (next to the Sea Cow) the Friday before last, it was lovely to see it so full :-) we had a fabulous meal, the food was excellent. The relishes they serve with the poppadoms are fabulous, they have a sweet coconutty one, not sure what it contains (it's probably not even coconut!!) but it's pretty fab if a little too moreish! I had tandoori chicken which was done really well, it's quite easy to get that dish too dry but it wasn't. The staff were very attentive and made us feel at ease so we didn't feel like we needed to rush out and just had a lovely laid-back tasty meal and left feeling very happy. lovely place, highly recommended :-)
  4. Tandoori Nights - went once, had a v dodgy tummy afterwards so haven't returned since... not saying that wasn't an isolated incident mind Surma - mediocre (at best!) over-creamed/ghee-ed and under-seasoned food served by staff who couldn't care less if you were there or not and actually seem annoyed that you are! (see my comments yesterday here) Dulwich Tandoori - consistently good, v friendly staff Jaflong - only recently discovered, v tasty food and charming attentive staff... relatively slow service but at least it reassures you that the food is being cooked properly! Swadesh - also nice food but haven't been when it's not been 50% off food so not sure as to normal value... also a bit too far down the other end of LL for lazy folks like us!! ;-)

  6. We bought our house last year for 450k, it's in ED, v close to Lordship Lane - it's a fixer-upper though, and we'll be working on it for a while (nothing structurally wrong with it but it was neglected for many years!). It's a good size, all bedrooms are double and there's plenty of room for a loft conversion. Garden is microscopic though and loses the sun by about 2pm. we were previously in herne hill, needed to move though as my son kept getting mugged. I'm not naive enough to think that there's zero possibility of that happening again but we do feel safer that little bit further away from Brixton. what attracted us to ED was the high street, herne hill is fabulous and has the most beautiful park (brockwell) but it didn't ever feel like it had a heart and I think you can find that with some of the other areas round here too... anyway, if we'd not been able to get our house we'd have definitely moved to nunhead, it's very nice round there and some of the places we saw were enormous with the most fabulous large gardens too! v happy to be here though, we've got everything we need within walking distance, it's a great place to live. I've lived in maida vale, chelsea and wimbledon before but east dulwich is by far my favourite :-)
  7. I'm not sure if this is the same dog but I'm on Worlingham Road - Crystal Palace road backs onto it and for basically the entire summer months, somebody was letting(locking?) their yappy dog out in the garden during the late afternoon/evening time. And also on weekends. As it's a bit colder now and our garden is in the middle of a rehaul we don't go out there anymore so not sure if it's actually stopped, pretty annoying though, especially when you're trying to sit outside and enjoy the 'peace', ha! I thought perhaps the dog owner worked evenings and just let their dog out when they went out... I can't see how they could stay indoors and put up with the noise, it's so irritating! it doesn't sound like Dulwich park fairy's dog though if she brings it in after 10 minutes! DPF doesn't sound the type to just leave her dog in the garden and go out for the evening!
  8. Hello! Please see this message from Audrey regarding the King's Griffin Netball club who train in Dulwich. Really great club, I've an ankle injury so haven't been able to train for a while but would recommend you go along and see what you think! Tara
  9. It would certainly make life easier and safer if there were at least one zebra crossing on Lordship Lane along the main section, especially near/between the turning off onto/from east dulwich grove!

  11. :-( so sad there's a little black cat who's constantly crossing the roads round Crawthew and Worlingham etc... I do worry about it!

  13. > The tight grid between Lordship Lane and Barry Road > offers the most popular houses in East Dulwich, where > a three to four-bedroom Victorian terrace can cost > ?400,000- ?500,000. Really?! Are there *any* 3+ bedroom houses in the area for less than ?5,500.00?!
  14. Waitrose would *love* to open a supermarket but unfortunately there's no premises that have enough space, and where there is the current owners/leasers don't want to relinquish such prime locations! such a shame... would love to use my discount! ;-) for the record though, I really like the co-op, even if their choices are somewhat limited. I think their premium own-brand stuff is particularly good though and very reasonably priced in comparison to other stores
  15. I'd recommend you go via Wimbledon personally, that's how I've done it in the past the train goes directly to wimbledon from east dulwich in the mornings... later on you'd have travel via herne hill (quick ride on the 37). then it's a short tram trip from wimbledon station - last platform simples :-)
  16. ...don't forget that yappy dog that barks without fail every single night! ;-)
  17. I think it's a great idea if you've got small children running around on it - otherwise it turns into a dust bowl (I'm told!) I'd personally love a bit of lawn in our microscopic horribly paved mini-garden... working on that one!
  18. isn't the last line... "a finger of fudge is just enough until it's time to eat" or have I been singing it wrong all these years... (yes, I am that sad ;-) ) the one that really irritates my son right now (much to my joy) is "autoglass repair... autoglass replace" :-D
  19. 118 414 why pay more know the score or something like that... that and the 'we buy any car' ad drive me mad on XFM!!
  20. I went to Marmaris a few years back, very friendly but ultra ultra touristy
  21. somewhere selling sports gear would be good though Intersport (I think that's what it's called...) in Herne Hill is pretty good
  22. Long shot here but is anyone on this thread riding in this year's Etape du Tour? My other half is doing the public tour de france stage this Sunday so would be interesting to know if anyone local is doing likewise Also, without trawling back through the previous pages (although I'm sure they're very interesting :-) ) are there any serious cyclists who'd be willing to take my nutty cyclist b/f under their wing and out on weekend rides? He did the etape last year but pretty much gave up cycling for 6 months following and lost a lot of fitness, so is keen to avoid the same thing happening again! Thanks Tara

  24. Thanks Sue, might have to resort to that... Sure enough it has just started up again... Wonder if the owner works nights?!! So frustrating as sitting in garden trying to study on what was a lovely peaceful evening!!
  25. The yappy dog that barks without fail every evening is rapidly driving me insane, I'm on Worlingham and I'm pretty sure it comes from Crystal Palace Rd but could be wrong... trees obstructing the view etc, do wish they'd take it indoors! :-/
