  1. As someone living at the Grove Vale on Oglander Road one of my main objections to the proposed CPZ is the likelihood that there will be a sizeable number of car owners within the CPZ who don't want to pay for the privilege of parking on their own road (supported by the council's own figures) and will therefore park on neighbouring non-CPZ roads, with our road being one of the prime targets. In fact James Barber in an earlier post appeared to actively suggest this as a way of not having to pay the ?125. This will lead to the ludicrous situation of there being empty spaces on the roads within the CPZ but an increase of parking stress on the streets immediately adjacent to the CPZ, not through any influx of commuters but from those who do not want to pay for a permit.
  2. Might be worth trying the fabic shop on Blenheim grove next to Peckham Rye station- they might have some.
  3. It might be connected to the flight but it can also be one of the first symptoms of pre-eclampsia - I would not wait until you get home to get it checked out.
  4. She is not claiming that she is advertising manicures and waxing for someone else - what she is saying is that THIS post is not about her. Don't forget that not everyone on the forum has English as their first language!
  5. Back of a police van in Manchester after I had flagged it down thinking it was a taxi (wasn't wearing my glasses at the time)
  6. We also kept our twin girls in the same room together - found that they could sleep soundly through the other ones crying! From memory they did not move into separate rooms until they were about 7 years old- agree with Spooner that keeping them together meant they kept each other amused - one of the many many benefits of having twins. Can't advise on pushchairs - there were only juggernauts available in my day! Congratulations on your fantastic news get in touch with the Dulwich and District Twins Club - they have great nearly new sales - invaluable when you are having to buy two of everything - and also a great source of support from people who understand what you are going through!
  7. As far as I know John Barnett have always taken polaroids - they certainly were 17 years ago! Not adapting to a changing market more a case of always providing good customer service
  8. Hi Salsaboy Unfortunately he did not get his own phone back - by the time the police had been informed it had already been sold on on Rye Lane apparently.
  9. A friend of mine was mugged for his phone near the junction of Crystal Palace Road and Upland Road on Monday evening. Perhaps rather foolishly he fought back which resulted in the muggers own phone falling to the ground. My friend picked it up and despite the mugger's pleas he refused to give it back! It was subsequently handed to the police who used it to phone the mugger's mother leading to the arrest of both the mugger and his accomplice yesterday!
  10. The newsagent near to Green and Blue also do them (I think it is called V7)
  11. That was exactly my point Alachlan - it makes no sense for Oglander to be excluded from the consultation when roads further away from the station (Ondine, the north side of East Dulwich Road by the side of Goose Green) have been included
  12. James, Are you able to explain why Oglander Road appears to have been excluded from the consultation whilst Copleston Road and Ondine Road have been included in the consultation?
  13. Netto's always had a very small carpark at the back and I expect Asda will continue to use it - cause of many traffic jams on Alpha Street as people queuing to get into the carpark completely block the road.
  14. When we went with our children a couple of years ago we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn on West 28th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue - you don't say how old the kids are but they do rooms with 2 queen sized beds so you could all bunk in together if the kids did not mind sharing a bed. It was a short walk from there to the empire state building, a reasonable step to the High line and galleries in Chelsea and we even found the West Village and Central Park to be walkable (but then I have teenagers - would probably be too far to walk for littler ones. Have just come back from a child free trip to NY and this time we stayed at the Archbishop Tutu Conference Centre on 10th Avenue - lovely big rooms although not much else in the way of hotel facilities - but don't know whether they have any family rooms there.
  15. Hi Depends on what kind of shared ownership it is but normally the lease will contain a provision that you notify the housing associaiton of your intention to sell and they have the flat valued by the district valuer. They normally also have a right to nominate a purchaser for the flat within a specific time frame. If they make no nomination or if their nominee fails to proceed with the purchase then you have the right to sell the property on the open market for 65% of the value set by the district valuer and the buyer acquires your 65% share (rather than selling the flat for the full market value and paying back 35% to the Housing Association. You mention that your father paid rent to the housing association so the likelihood is that the above procedure will be correct. There is another way to own a property on shared ownership which is for the housing association to have a charge over the property for their percentage in which case you would sell for the full market value and then repay the housing association their share. Best thing is to contact the Husing Association and they will be able to let you know the correct procedure.
  16. Highly unlikely that the freeholders will ask for a fee for extending the lease as you will all own a share of the freehold. Would probably be sensible for all the lessees/freeholders to extend their leases to 999 years at a peppercorn ground rent at the same time. If you would like to discuss the matter further you could phone my colleague Suzanne Day at Glazer Delmar on Northcross Road (020 8299 0021) as she specialises in lease extensions.
  17. Ultrasun sold by John Lewis (and maybe waitrose) - locally Dr Boo on Northcross Road stock it - also sometimes sold on QVC (I think) and I have got it on line in the past (but can't remember the website I am afraid)
  18. Magicool - a spray in a can is good for cooling them down - For the future Ultrasun is the best sunscreen I have come across for those that burn easily and are prone to heat rash - it is a once a day application as well which is good for teenagers that forget to reapply! It is not cheap but it is definitely worth it. Also don't forget that the factor on a sunscreen only increases the time that she can spend in the sun without burning by that factor - i.e if she would normally burn after a couple of minutes (as a redhead probably would) then a factor 30 would only allow her to be exposed to the sun for 60 minutes without burning - reapplying would not give her a further 60 minutes she would need to cover up for the rest of the day. As I know from experience it is very difficult to convince a teenager of that fact!
  19. Might be a bit late but I have a number 5 cake tim that you could borrow if you wanted - it is lurking somewhere in the cellar but I could dig it out this evening for you.
  20. Just recently I have had a Greater spotted woodpecker visiting the fat feeder in my garden - I have never seen one before so am very excited!
  21. Fantastic - thanks for your help
  22. Google has let me down - does anyone know when Austins originally opened in Peckham, I know tha tthe houses that replaced it were built in the 1990's but don't know how long Austins had stood on the site previously.
  23. If the pain is in your heels, feels a bit like walking on broken glass and is worse when you get up in the morning or have been sitting for long periods then it definitely sounds like plantar fasciatis(sp?). It is agony when you have got it - I got rid of mine with exercises from a podiatrist - my friend who also had it used a "Strasburg sock" which keeps your foot in the right position while you sleep to avoid the problem in the morning.
  24. I thought that historically there had been brickfields in the area (hence the prevalence of restrictive covenants forbidding the burning of bricks on local property titles) - surely there would need to be clay present for the brickfields to be successful
